Thank you for the video. Love the step by step. I did my bulb, but I didn't do color changing but got the same brand you recommended, just plain white. It works great. For my hot tub, it uses the tiny halogen Pentair 120v 100. My local light company, Xpress Lighting of Texas, in Spring, hooked me up with a 5000k LED E11. Wow. Stunning. Both bulbs, less than $100. There can be several causes. That will happen if the light gets water in it. So I would check that. It could also happen if there is an issue with the wire. But that is probably less common.
hey @rosco - thank you for such a great diy. a question, once the light is out of that cavity, wont water get into that cavity or hole that houses the light. do i have to be concerned about it? OR is it that water is always there i just saw it first time

I got my light fixture out without having to drain my pool down, thanks to using an impact screw driver, hand driven of course. However, I can't get a light bulb to light up when I turn the switch on. I used a voltage meter to see if I was getting current at the bulb holder, and all I could get for a reading is 12 volts. Unfortunately I have already thrown away the old bulb, but it looked like a regular spot light bulb. I don't want to spend a lot of money buying a 12 volt bulb if it isn't really a 12 volt fixture. Any suggestions?
I have only ever dealt with the 120. But I think they do come in 12v options. The 12v LED bulbs seem to be about the same price as the 120s. There is usually a sticker on the fixture or the cord. However they can come off in the water so that may not be around anymore. If there isn’t anything written on the fixture and you are reading 12v when you turn the switch on, I would probably get the 12v bulb and try it. I’m sorry. I know that probably wasn’t very helpful.
it depends which part is stuck. if its stuck in the wall, make sure that its the same kind of light (pentair, or at least that style). if the screw is removed then it should slide out of the wall fairly easily. If you are having trouble removing the glass cover. they can be pretty stuck sometimes. They get suctioned on. I have had good luck pushing a flat head screwdriver against the rubber seal to pop off the glass.
If you are referring to the brightness of the light. These LEDs are pretty bright. But they are also dimmable. Here is a review I did of this bulb. That’s a good question. If it’s a Pentair light like in the video, then it’s likely the same. Typically spas can be drained and refilled easily though. So they may not have left enough cord and just expected it to be drained. My spa had small LED lights that are not like this one in the video. I’ve never had to replace one. So I don’t know how to do those.
I did a review on the one in this video. There is a link to find the bulb in the description. LED Pool Light from Amazon (Color Changing, Review, Mopzlink) th-cam.com/video/OZOQPiOysG8/w-d-xo.html
I have to change light bulb in Pentair PAR16? Would like to put in a led light there…Are these pool light all same size…i am trying to find a led that fits my pool light fixture…any help…
If it is a smaller light that fits a PAR16 (bulbs that are about 2" wide) then most standard pool light bulbs pro ably wont fit because they are more like 6" or 7". Unless the housing is the large size and it just had a small bulb in it. If the housing is a small version then you may need to look at bulbs like this one amzn.to/47sT71I

so, the actual housing built into the pool, that the light housing sits in, is always gonna be full of water? and that doesn't affect anything? i read a story online not too long ago, where a father jumped in a pool to save his kid who was floating in the pool, and the father got electrocuted (as did the kid), both died instantly, because of the light. so, i am a new pool owner; learning about all this. how does something like that happen, where someone would get electrocuted because of the light?
Yes, the cave that the light housing sits back into will always have water in it. I haven't heard of that specific incident. If the light is wired properly then it shouldn't happen. Even if the light gets water inside it, it should ground itself out and trip a breaker before anyone would be harmed. But if you have a new pool, or especially if you moved into a house that already had a pool. If you don't know much about them, then I would have someone from your local pool store come have a look at everything. They can walk you through how all of your systems work and make sure everything is wired up the way it should be.
Good video. Is there a seal at the back of the light housing where the wire goes in & conduit is connected? i am getting some water in my conduit. Could it possibly be the lens gasket? Thanks a lot.
If you are getting water inside your light housing, I would start with replacing the gasket on the lens. Then you can hold it underwater and see if any air bubbles are escaping. If you are taking about the conduit in the wall. Perhaps this video will help. Fix a leak in a pool, Without draining it! th-cam.com/video/CZyPBo7eLJU/w-d-xo.html
There should be a breaker for the pool lights. Usually in the panel that also runs the pool pump. That’s what I used. Finding the model number is a good question. Without removing the light, I would probably easier the diameter and then check pictures online and compare. The model number may be on the light somewhere. I’m not sure.
The lens gasket should keep water out of where the light bulb is. And there isn’t a reason to silicone them to the wall. There is suppose to be water behind it. You may have a different style of light however.
It’s a little tougher when the pool builder glues to old power line in the duct. That said, once complete, the old cord makes a dandy extension cord. Two new ends and when, green reuse. LOL
Unfortunately, if the light wasn’t installed properly and the cord doesn’t reach out of the water, then you will have to drain the pool down far enough to be able to open it up above the water level.
All of them that I have ever had use the single screw to hold them in. So I’m not sure. If that isn’t there I would try twisting the whole thing counter clockwise. But I honestly don’t know for sure.
Thanks for the video. One of my pool lights went out and the one for my bubbler seems on the fritz (strobing random colors). Is the light you linked compatible with Jandy and the iAquaLink system? Thanks for the help.
i'm not familiar with that system. these light bulbs use a standard base, but they are pretty large. if that has a small housing, then they may not fit. I would check the measurements.
@@RoscoReviews I did end up using plumbers grease this time but I think what helped most was u explaining lining up the writing on the bulb and ring….made it easier to put clamp ring on….i dunked it and it’s water tight, my light is lower than yours so i have a 25lb weight to tie off to my belt and goggles….so now for the hard part that last screw

Gud video ,my bulb are 100w,12v and R-20 type. when bulb are turned on ,the output wire of transformer are starting to overheat.so what's the problem ?
It is probably a good idea to have something holding the bottom in place. The screw does most of the work, but if somebody accidentally kicks the light or something, it could break the screw too. If you think you can get it stuck back on there, I would try.
The proper thing to do would probably be to re tap the hole (probably to the next size up) then use a slightly larger screw. But that would probably be tricky without draining the pool. You could perhaps wrap something around the screw (like Teflon tape) to make it just slightly fatter then try to screw it in again.
Unfortunately I don’t have any tricks for that. If the screw is stripped or stuck and you really can’t get it. I would probably have to drain it down at least to the screw and then drill it out.
The swimming pool water will not go inside the light housing/compartment? I’m afraid to get the water back to the junction box where I connect the cables/wire from my transformer
If the light was installed properly, it is meant to have water behind the fixture. There is water behind it all the time the light housing doesn’t actually seal to the wall. (this is specifically for the standard pentair lights. There may be lights that work differently)
This is great! When i got a quote to change my 3 pentair lights I about had a heart attack! Pool question... looks like you have pebble tech surface. We need to resurface our pool and am considering that product. Any thoughts, recommendations ?

Really nice video. You are debunking the myth of 1000 dollars to replace the pool light that my pool guy quoted me for. Q: what happens if there is a leak and the water enters into the light bulb area. Is that a hazard for anyone at the pool???
If the light fixture was installed properly than it should ground itself out and trip the breaker off if it gets water in it. So it shouldn’t harm anyone.
Any other light that you will recommend I will like to stay with led and also gasket to but the one you showed is made in china but the problem they use cheap materials thanks
Yeah. Unfortunately I think most of them are made in China. I got 3 seasons out of my last one. So I didn’t think that was too bad. It’s a standard base bulb. So I would think you could use any exterior LED flood light. You can probably find some of those made by GE or something. But they probably won’t be the color changing ones.
@@RoscoReviews hello there I have a question I’m trying to remove the screw that holds the assembly for the pool light any suggestions please that would help me thank you so much
If the led lights are exposed like the one in the video, use latex gloves to handle the light. Oil from your fingers can cause premature failure of the LED LIGHTS.
They are in the video description. But depending on the device they can be kind of hidden. I’ll copy them down here 😊 Link for LED color changing pool Light bulb: amzn.to/42sx8o2 Link for Pool Light Gaskets: amzn.to/3MeH3bk
My LED lamp went out after less than a couple 100 hours of total use. I ordered a replacement and the bulb would not come on. I had an electrician check the switch the transformer and the voltage inside the bulb housing. Everything was fine. Ordered another bulb and everything worked fine. It's a little frustrating when brand new products don't work.
Yeah. Unfortunately most all of them are mass produced in China and it’s kind of a crap shoot. My first one lasted 3 years. I felt like that was pretty good. But I also don’t use it everyday. I have replaced it and I’ll see if I get as long out of this one. I haven’t had a new one not work right out of the box yet though.
I can't get the screw to unscrew. I think it has rusted, like maybe pool guy didn't use ss screw. Any suggestions. Will I have to break the ring around the light?
If you cant get the screw out, I would probably drill the head off the screw before I would break the ring. The only problem is, you would have to drain the pool far enough to get to the screw. The ring is held on all the way around from the back. If you try to break the ring you may end up breaking the glass. I think I would drain the pool down to where I could drill the head of the screw. Then remove the light, then use vice grips or something to get ahold of what’s left of the screw to try to get it out. If it breaks off you might have to drill the rest of it out too.
Thank you so much for your reply. I'm glad you told me not to break the ring, as that was what I was thinking to do if I can't get the screw out. Since swimming season is about over for me draining the pool doesn't really put a damper on us. Thanks again for your timely reply and sound advice . Will definitely return to you for any supplies I might need
I get that your probably shooting on an iPhone and it’s waterproof. One question though. Either the camera person can hold their breath for a really long time or are you streaming to an iPad or similar device to see the camera feed? 5:02 good video. Keep them coming
I actually just got a new GoPro hero 11 that we used for the underwater shots. This was our first real test with it. It takes a nice video and Courtney did a good job holding it underwater.
If it’s the same style light as in the video, but there isn’t enough cord to pull it out of the water, then I may not have been installed properly. If that is the case, then unfortunately, the only way to change the bulb will be to drain the pool down to where it’s below the light. Replace the bulb and fill the pool back up.
I got 3 years out of my first one. So I didn’t think that was too bad. But, I’m sure it matters how much you turn it on and off. I think turning them on and off a lot burns the boards out in the led lights.
There are a bunch on Amazon and they appear to be the same just branded and sold by different sellers. I’d look for the one offering the best deal with decent reviews.

Gud video ,my bulb are 100w,12v and R-20 type. when bulb are turned on ,the output wire of transformer are starting to overheat.so what's the problem ?
It's tough to say without testing everything. It could be a faulty transformer, or possibly a damaged line causing it to work harder than it should.
The hook on the bottom broke off do I need to epoxy it back on
It is probably a good idea to have something holding the bottom in place. The screw does most of the work, but if somebody accidentally kicks the light or something, it could break the screw too. If you think you can get it stuck back on there, I would try.
The screw attaching the light housing to my is stripping out. Any suggestions?
The proper thing to do would probably be to re tap the hole (probably to the next size up) then use a slightly larger screw. But that would probably be tricky without draining the pool.
You could perhaps wrap something around the screw (like Teflon tape) to make it just slightly fatter then try to screw it in again.
Any tips if screw is frozen - without draining the pool?
Unfortunately I don’t have any tricks for that. If the screw is stripped or stuck and you really can’t get it. I would probably have to drain it down at least to the screw and then drill it out.
The swimming pool water will not go inside the light housing/compartment? I’m afraid to get the water back to the junction box where I connect the cables/wire from my transformer
If the light was installed properly, it is meant to have water behind the fixture. There is water behind it all the time the light housing doesn’t actually seal to the wall. (this is specifically for the standard pentair lights. There may be lights that work differently)
@@RoscoReviews thank you very much for your explanation Sr.
Flawless! Thanks for the help.
No problem! Happy to do it 😄
This is great! When i got a quote to change my 3 pentair lights I about had a heart attack!
Pool question... looks like you have pebble tech surface. We need to resurface our pool and am considering that product.
Any thoughts, recommendations ?
This pool has a vinyl liner. I’ve never had a pebble Tec pool. They look really nice! I can’t speak for the longevity of the product though.
Do u need to put new wire
If you are just needing to replace the bulb, then you shouldn’t need to change anything with the fixture or wiring.
That three piece map is beautiful
Thank you! Traveling is a huge passion for my wife and I. We put pins in that map for all of the places we have traveled. We have a travel channel as well where we post videos of our adventures all over the world. www.youtube.com/@thatadventurecouple
@@RoscoReviews hello there I have a question I’m trying to remove the screw that holds the assembly for the pool light any suggestions please that would help me thank you so much
This is great. I wish my pool lamp was this easy to replace. Our lamp is in the deep end and putting the stupid lamp back in is a pain in the butt.
Yeah. If it’s lower in the wall where you can’t reach it from the top I could see that being pretty difficult :-/
ouch .... forgot to show us it works ! but seriously , thanks for the video
Haha. Oops. I promise it does work. 😂
If the led lights are exposed like the one in the video, use latex gloves to handle the light. Oil from your fingers can cause premature failure of the LED LIGHTS.
Good to know! I’ve always heard that with halogen bulbs. But I didn’t know LEDs were that way.
Led bulbs should not get hot, so the oil on your hands will not cause premature failure that's only with halogen bulbs
That's halogen not led
I’m not seeing the link to order ? 😭
They are in the video description. But depending on the device they can be kind of hidden. I’ll copy them down here 😊

Thank you! Great video!
No problem. Happy to help!
Thank you
Happy to help :)
Wish mine was a screw on type bulb
Mine is a pentar circuit board thing thats like $500 to purchase.
Oh no! I’ve only ever had the standard bulb ones.
Didn’t work mine doesn’t have a cord what do I do
If it’s the same style light as in the video, but there isn’t enough cord to pull it out of the water, then I may not have been installed properly. If that is the case, then unfortunately, the only way to change the bulb will be to drain the pool down to where it’s below the light. Replace the bulb and fill the pool back up.
Except when the last guy didnt leave enough slack in the wire to get the fixture onto the deck and put the niche ring on wrong
Ooof. Yeah. That makes it a bit more difficult to change. I e had a couple comments like that. So, you are not alone.
nice
Thank you!
LED bulbs don't last as long.
I got 3 years out of my first one. So I didn’t think that was too bad. But, I’m sure it matters how much you turn it on and off. I think turning them on and off a lot burns the boards out in the led lights.
Make sure it's connected to a breaker and don't assume. 🔌🛁
Yes! It’s always a good idea to turn off the breaker to be sure.
Whats the exact model bulb that you used? I see a lot of them on amazon
Here is a video I did on the bulb itself.

There are a bunch on Amazon and they appear to be the same just branded and sold by different sellers. I’d look for the one offering the best deal with decent reviews.
@@RoscoReviews hi! Will this light bulb work with my Pentair app instead of the remote control it comes with? Or do you have a different light bulb suggestion?
