Hoof & Hide LLC, a Registered South Poll producer in East Texas, demonstrates an easier and safer way to weigh calves using the LBS Calf Scale. We use footage of ourselves weighing, tagging and moving our Registered South Poll Cattle with voice-over commentary by Stockman JR Jones explaining the process.

Thank you. That is a great idea for a future video. This year, shortly after making this video, JR was injured and it was left to the kids and I to tag half the calves. We don't have the roping skills that JR does, so maybe our method would work for you. We tried to tag them right around 24 hours old or less (but not immediately because we don't want to interfere with cow/calf bonding). Essentially the calves born today would be tagged the next morning. The calves are easier to catch in that first 24 hours. We would look for a time of day when they tended to be lying down. Then, for the most part we could drive the gator up close to them and keep going as if nothing was happening, but our son would jump out of the back and quietly slip a rope around the calf's neck while the calf's attention was the gator that was still driving. Once the calf was on a "leash," we had control of it while the gator circled around and parked close to the calf. We would then lift the calf up on the scale. But we do have very gentle cattle that are used to us being in the pasture with them . . .
