We normally give the mom and baby bonding time before. The longer you wait tho the harder it is to catch em 😂

Curiosity speaking, I've never seen calves vaccinated that young. When are you giving the booster?

@@doublelcattlefarming Consult somebody on that protocol. There is almost no efficacy of a vaccine at that age. As a general rule, I mind my own business. You seem like well meaning people. Please don't think I'm some internet warrior.

Narrowtrailministries - you are correct. The maternal antibodies in colostrum prevent the development of the calf's own immunity for some weeks. A strategy of vaccination at birth and weaning is likely to result in poor immunity of the calf in its first year because the birth shot will do nothing and the weaning shot doesn't get the necessary priming 4-6 weeks later. Double L - here is a reference to calf immunity. The timing does depend on the disease, but the clostridials (ie 5 in 1 component of 7 in 1) the reference stated "Maternal interference significantly inhibited Clostridial spp antibody responses in calves vaccinated at 3 or 50 days of age.
