Dude, thank you. I was able to revive my old 3DS xl. took it apart, removed the plastic sticker cover thingy and cleaned the metal pieces with alcohol. They work like new! ty
Solid
Watching your videos brings me so much peace. Your channel is not only helpful with all the repairs that you do but it's also such a peaceful place from the crazy loud world that we're living in right now. Many thanks to you! ❤
Bought my 3DS at a thrift store and was so excited until I started playing with it and found the “A” button was a little unresponsive. I cracked open the game and followed your instructions and it runs so smoothly now. Thank you so much❤
Glad I could help!
was it a good deal?
@@chipklip2 yea Japanese version for about 120$
Thank you for this video. The "A" button on my 3DS XL hasn't worked in years, it works now after I followed along with the video. The "B", "X", and "Y" buttons are more responsive now too. Thanks again!
Glad it helped
I am so nervious about doing this since the pad no longer works, but after watching this video I feel hopeful I can do it. I also got an aftermarket NES themed shell since I figured I might as well take advantage of me opening the thing.
Hopefully it will go well
How did it go?
Thank you! You just saved my daughter money because no one would attempt to fix it and she was going to have to get a replacement. I fixed it for her.
Excellent!
worked. Had to go back and double check my cables case the top screen went black. But it all worked out in the end. Thank you!
What cable is the top screen connected to I had the same problem and I can’t find it

Great guide! Clean, clear and straight to the point.
To anyone this didn't work for even after you have cleaned them, you can just buy new button stickers for very cheap and replace them.
If your buttons are severely corroded you may have to use very fine sandpaper to scrape off the corrosion. Let me know if you have any questions regarding this repair.
Never knew this repair was possible. Good to know in case I need to do that repair
A question, my Y button is severely stuck (console detects it as permanently pressed… unless I hold it down and release it, wich seems to fix it for a second). I opened the console and cleaned as the video shows (there was barely any signs of corrosion on the springs, and the board looks brand new). That seemed to do the trick, and the button started to act normally, but it only lasted for a couple of minutes. Is there anything else I can try? Nintendo support is unavailable in my region, and a replacement board will be hard to find (I have a new 3ds XL)
@@yeoldehog no clue if it will work but have you tried another rubber button contact? Well the rubber placed on top of the buttons. The issue could be there.
@@indy5280 thank you for your reply. I think I found the problem, so I'll leave this comment for future viewers. There was a small amount of corrosion on the connector pins of the flat cable connecting the board with the abxy buttons to the main board (a feature of the new XL model), so I cleaned it as explained on the video and it seams to have solved the problem.
@@yeoldehog Nice job
Thank you for this tutorial. This was my first time ever opening up one of my electronics and taking it apart and so I was very intimated at first. However, this tutorial was very concise and simple to follow and I really appreciate it. Finally got my B button working and I can finally enjoy some new games and get back on some old games I held off on because of this issue.
Thank you! Completely fixed my unresponsive A button
thank you for this video! I was looking for this back in 2021 when the buttons on my 3DS XL started not responding, I thought I'd never see a repair guide on this problem!
Just here to say big thank you to you my man. Just spent a stressful hour following your instructions and finally managed to fix the stiff A button! I’m so proud of myself right now hahahah. Cheers dude, and happy new year to you!
This is my type of ASMR lol. Good stuff
Thanks so much for this! Got my 3DS's face buttons working again on the eve of the eShop shutdown. Helped me justify a few final purchases.
Get custom firmware.
@@sesscircoThank you
Best tutorial , I just got this 3ds xl from the pawnshop and 2 of the dpad buttons didn't work. I was scared to make the condition worse but this video saved me $75 of repairs and was fun to do. Works perfect now =)
This was wonderful. Loved the music and thank you for being crystal Pepsi clear.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you
Thank you SO much! Thanks to this super clear and precise video i saved my faulty B button, everything works like a charm now
Glad it helped!
ASMR and a great demonstration, my a button is brand new thank you!!!
Your welcome
thank you so much!! I fixed my dpad because of this video. I didn't know they can be corroded like that. thank you so so much 💓
You're welcome
Thank you so much! I was able to fix the Y button (which only worked by pressing hard) by following your instructions!
Glad it helped!
Nice! Everything is working again!
Much Love from Germany❤
Great to hear!
Seeing you get the ribbon wires to go in so easily was kind of infuriating but thanks a lot for the instructions. Great video
Thanks!
Thank you for your support, I really appreciate it.
Tried doing this exact thing to my 2ds but the screws to get in were corroded so when i tried getting them out I stripped them pretty bad. Had to take it to a repair shop that had extractors to get the X button working. Glad my 2ds is working fully though.
Thankyou so much! I think the sticker holding the pads to the board might be different in some releases as mine has the clear film with a white underneath it. Mine didnt stick back quite as well as yours but the buttons all feel great!
Thank you so much! It helped me alot, keep up the good work!
Glad it helped!
So, I was successfully able to remove the film. But when I did, the domes stayed stuck to the board. I'm not sure if anyone else had this problem but I have no idea how I'm supposed to safely pry the buttons off and replace them, they will not budge at all. I unfortunately don't have a plastic tool I could wedge them off with. (Weirdly enough a bit of compressed air into the a button did the trick after i reassembled my 3ds) The button is functional now, but this has happened before and its only a matter of time before it stops working again. Any advice on how i could go about safely removing the buttons? I wish that they'd come off with the film, so odd that they didn't
Fantastic video, thanks for taking the time. I'll be using this as a guide.
Thank you so much, now my x button is responding like new.
Holy molly duuude. This shit fucking sucks. Especially the little delicate flimsy ribbon cables. I didn't have plastic tweezers like you did so I had to borrow my girlfriend's metal tweezers and I was scared to death of break anything so I couldn't really hold the ribbon cables well and couldn't plug them in all the way. I ended up taking this thing apart like 3 times because I would turn the 3ds on and a little pop would sound and it would turn off then only the bottom screen would turn on then nothing would turn on. Well, you know what they say, 4th time's the charm.
I did end up getting everything working again and both A and B buttons now work flawlessly. Thanks man, your guide was very easy to follow. Have a nice day!
Thank you for showing us how to fix this.
My A button currently is not working at all. This video is giving me hope!
Hello, how about the start and select buttons? Does "cleaning" the same apply to them? Mines been malfunctioning now... (start button being held down all the time)
This is so satisfying and I want to fix console like you
Excelent video! worked in first try! 10/10
Thank you so much for this video! It helped me fix my “fully functional” 3ds that I bought off eBay. 😂
Great to hear!
Thank you so much for this video, it actually worked!!
Is there any huge risk involved? My mom's 3DS A button isn't very responsive and I want to fix it, but I'm not proficcient at this. Any advice?
Hello, what can I do, if the A Button still doesn´t work at the end?
oh hell nah, i ain't doing all of this
Afterwards, the charging and power lights are working, but the screens themselves won’t turn on even though it’s charged up. When I go in again to fix it, what specifically should I be looking for?
Going to start working on my 3DS XL I’m nervous I might mess it up, my left analog up button is not responding at all.
Everything is working but my top screen which wire is the one to reconnect it
Thanks for this!
I was attempting to do this, but while I was trying to get the rubber covers off the screws at 0:47, the rubber things ripped and now I don't know how to get them off to get to the screws. I tried using tweezers like in the video, but they just ripped with the top part being reduced to pieces and the bottom half still stuck above the screw. Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas on how to remove the rest so I can get to the screw and then replace the cover?
Can you do a video of this but with the 2d please. My daughters x button keep pressing continuously and she's so upset. X
Thank you so much for this vid, it really helped me fixed the unreponsive a button on mine. Just want to ask, what seems the problem, L button is stuck, I tried to unplug the wire for L trigger, the L function is still stuck when I turn it on. Did you encountered such error?
I have not, try cleaning the L connector on the board, is there any corrosion? Also try unplugging the touchscreen.
4:52 can i use rubbing alcohol or isopropyl alcohol? (I looked up what the alcohol was bc one of my buttons doesn't work on my new 3ds xl) I wanted to check before i do anything risky with anything for repairs.
What it could be if my home button, my mic and my NFC reader doesn't work
I think it was opened but I don't know why
When I’m on the Home Screen my thumb pad and d pad don’t respond on the bottom screen but when I play a game they do respond on the top screen but still no t the bottom
Sounds like a touchscreen issue.
My SELECT button is stuck and I cant pass of the Luma menú when turn on the 3ds. Could you help me? I can do this with the Select, home or Start buttons?
It worked! Thank You!
Hi I'm wondering how would I solder to those buttons? Can I use the contact points on the back of the controller board? I have a new 3ds xl mine is a daughter board. I wanna make the ds gh grip work on my 3ds but I need help soldering wires to the a b x y buttons
I have exactly the same 3DS xl and my start, home and select buttons doesn’t work, that the same process or not ?
My 3Ds power button doesn't works, is there any fix to it?
I bought a 3DSXL and got it shipped though mail, and it seems that it was a rough travel as when it arrived it didn't power on, I asked the previous owner if it was like that when he sent it to me but he told me that it worked perfectly as when he packaged it. So fidgeting around with the power button I got it to turn on for a while. Now it ran of batteries, so I charged it but I can't power it on anymore, seems like the button completely stopped working, is there anything I can do to fix it?
Hi! Can you tell me where to buy the isopropyl alcholic?
So this will work if my A button isn't responding to any presses at all? Even though it's still clicky?
Yes, as the system in the video had that same issue.
@@TheFixTech I was trying to put a wire back in during reassebly, and one of the tabs for it came off. (The big wire in bottom right for lower screen) It seems like it can be reattached but the piece are so small. Any suggestions?
@@SkyworldStreamskill issue
Can you replace it?
Hello! I want to try this rapair on mine, but I don't know if it will work since ALL of it it's unresponsive except for the power button, (and I guess the sliders), would this fix it or do you consider it has another problem?
Sounds like a touchscreen issue, I have a video for that.
Is 70% isopropyl alcohol okay?
Yes, just make sure it is fully dry before reassembly
Do i lose my safe stats from my virtual console games? Becuz they are on the sd card.
No
Nope
Ok thanks
I was wondering if the procedure is similar for the power button. I know that my 3ds XL is working but I think the power button is misaligned or something because I need to press the power button hard to get it to open but lately even pressing it hard does not open it. It charges fine so battery's not the problem
Did You fix it? Im having the same problem
remove the screws-fix the buttons-top screen now not working💀
Nice!
Thanks!
ty
As someone who works on electronics now... it makes me sad that both of my conductive pads are a little misaligned lol
Definitely would have failed QA
But I can’t perform it
9:27 sirens
I did all you did in the video but i turni on the 3ds but i hear sound but the display it's black pls help me idk what to do 😭😭😭 (PLS like this comment because i Need and answer)
rewatch the video and check if you didn’t reconnect something properly. I had the same problem but i did everything over again and it worked fine
Dpad?
Yes, this process can be used on the d pad as well
I also have the blie version and my fking a button doesnt work anymore :/
It lasted 10 years
Better than nothing
Only reason I’m here is because my 3DS XL buttons aren’t working
