    i run my own mechanical workshop and i pulled one of these down and didnt get back to reassemble it three months later due to owner not having any fund so this video was very handy to help show where some of those pipes went .Top job ol mate it helped me out no end.

    Mine had a small head gasket leak at the front of the engine. There is a tiny water gallery only about 10mm from the front of the block. Started at about 150K. Had new radiator, water pump, isolate EGR cooler etc but no-one could work out where the leak was. Eventually I felt a sudden increase in vibration (which I now know was the balance shaft breaking due to water damage. It had done 60K and I was planning to get the belts done shortly.) Mechanic couldn't find problem. 4 months later had a catastrophic breakdown when the balance belt pieces caught in the timing belt and caused it to slip.
    I could not afford a mechanic to fix it so took it home and bought another car. I got Covid soon after so had 2 weeks off work where I could remove and dismantle the engine while trying to not die. (got to get your priorities right hey?). Have been gradually rebuilding it since.
    Head crack checked and rebuilt, new camshafts. All the exhaust rockers were broken in half so full set of new rockers. New big ends. Bores and pistons were OK. Pulled out the balance shafts and checked their bearings (OK). Turbo was leaking oil internally and externally so had that rebuilt.
    Cost me about $3500 in parts, clutch kit, turbo and head rebuild. At least I now know this engine inside out so will be more able to maintain and diagnose problems in future. Not long until I get it in and back on the road.
    Moral of the story is it is cheaper to do a major disassembly to find a problem that wait until it becomes worse.

    Good video , i had also a a 4d56 came in from another shop without the balance shaft belt fitted. Customer did not even know. Had some performance problems.
    Now i have a 4d56 did with hard start and not idling after it starts after 35 to 40 seconds with no trouble codes.

    Lucky the b/shaft belt did not take out the cam / fuel pump belt! Have seen a couple sheer the tensioner pivot bolt on the main belt due to that same failure. Usually because owners have not had the T belts replaced @ 90,000km as per the schedule LOL

    We need half decent mechanics in the UK like yourselves....had a tapping noise on a L200 on tickover and when you reved it up it got worst....they never did get to the bottom of it....they said things like it could be a blocked or worn diesel injector....

    I bought my 2007 Triton when it had done 235k km. I noticed a slight vibration usually at idle and and very low end of the RPM range. Came to know it is the broken balance shaft belt and when I did the timing belt replacement at 300K km I didn't replace the balance shaft belts because when it brakes again (as it would, because this happens due to lack of lubrication of balance shaft bearings by design fault with 4D56) there is a possibility broken belt entangling with the timing belt and breaking it as well. So I'm more than happy with this little vibration than higher possibility of a bigger repair given how old my engine already is.

      @@b9625bb the overheating issues are an easy fix its caused by blow by, incorrect coolant and the wrong pressure rated radiator cap. All three should be changed if you ever buy a MN triton or challenger. They aren't too bad of a motor the older ones didnt have the issues like the tritons did but because the older 4d56 were built in Japan not Thailand they cheaped out on some things and redesigned.

    my triton a 2012 automatic 2,4 model , hits the breaks while driving and then it stucks the second gear in the gear box making it impossible to speed it up. The only remedy is to pull over and awitch off the engine and start it back. Any ideas what is causing it ? the fault is P1782 and P1783

  • @conmanumber1

    It's kinda b.s when one says bigger tires are hard to get off the mark and require more torque.
    When increasing tire diameter it's very common practice to change diff crown and pinions to suit tires. This will bring it back to as normal.

    • @BLACK_CAT_XD

    I have the same engine in mine. It is low on power and has misfire code cyl 2, most notable at idle. I have already cleaned the inlet manifold with small improvement. Replaced the SCV with no improvement. I am now anticipating to find a broken rocker or replace injectors.
    Is there a valve/butterfly in the cylinder head that switches between the two inlet tracts?
    Are the injector fuel hardlines one use?
    Thanks from petrol car guy (diesel newbie)
    Yes I figured to check the fuel pressure on scan tool before working.

    • @fryman2650
      @fryman2650 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check injector lines for cracks, the return line which connects all four injectors and the pindles on the injectors themselves and make sure to replace the copper washes on the injectors while your at it.
      I dont believe there is any inside the head itself no.
      And yes they use hardines, sometimes can be prone to hairline cracks, if you do replace do not replace with used ones as they usually are married up to the injectors when first fitted, from experience some dont just straight fit but if you replace with brand new they will groove/mould to your injectors.

      Just curious, what was the fault and did you manage to fix it?

    • @creed2409
      @creed2409 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes the misfire was blocked injector. I had already tried the fuel treatment additives and it was completely crusted over when I took it out. Job took all day as the manifold and rocker cover have to come off. Budget to clean the manifold and adjust valve clearances same time. Check the injectors are positioned correctly to fit the hard lines before reassembly. Mine were not quite lined up with the fuel pipe and were difficult to fit but did go on, I had already refitted the rocker cover and inlet manifold.
