Swimming in TS3 DOES increase the Athletic skill. I think you need to have at least one point, after which swimming in the ocean or in a pool should raise your Athletic skill. I believe destroying heaps of rocks in TS3:WA might also increase the skill, but I am not sure. Also, using the dancing barre from the Store increases the skill as well 😄

Oh I should've tested that better, now that you say that, the sims I put in the pool were level 0 & the other one was level 10! I knew I used to usually see that skill bar when sims swim...
Oh and yeah the Martial Arts from TS3!! I've just checked out infos on the internet & found nothing...I'll run tests later on & update you guys (I'll try not to forget 😅)

Yes it's the same as the charisma skill, where you won't build it while socialising until you have the 1st level. I think there's also a hidden adventuring skill, but I don't know how it works, I just remember seeing it briefly using nraas cheats

TS2 does have a few activities that you missed that also build body skill. Yoga also builds the body skill. TS2:U has the Coach, TS2:NL has the ElectroDance Sphere, TS2:BV has Tai Chi and the Log Rolling Pit, TS2:S has Skating (ice and roller) and studying body from The Education Career Reward Bookshelf (lame), TS2:FT also has a couple you missed: jogging, dance competitions and in TS2:AL, children gain body skill from playground equipment. Also, you didn't place the Obstacle Course and Punching Bag in the top tier (both increase body skill faster than any of the exercise equipment)? However, oddly enough, reading from the Education First Bookshelf is the fastest, or the fastest is by exploiting the glitch of reading TS2:AL's Physiology, then choose anything that gives body skill, and max quickly. Magic spells also can make Sims fit or fat (although they do not build the body skill).
While, I do admit TS2 does lack the array of body types that both TS3 and TS4 have to come on top, they do win for passing on true body genetics, unlike TS3 and TS4, which both pass on attributes of both parents during pregnancy, while TS2 passes on higher chances of birth genetics of parents (grand parents, etc.), with chances of randomness. Because TS2 uses Personality Points, genetic body type is determined by the levels between lazy and active. Also, when encouraging to be more active, the younger sim will exercise, which builds body as well as slowly increases levels towards "active." Serious Sims will also be more focused, can exercise longer, while playful sims need exercises that are also fun. Outgoing sims like group workouts (i.e. bowling, dance competitions, basketball, etc.), while shy Sims prefer to exercise at home, preferably alone, otherwise they build body at a slower rate in group settings. Neat sims will not exercise for too long, especially as they get stinky, while slobs just do not care and will workout through their own stench. Grouchy Sims have very little patience being trained or training, while nice sims have lots of patience.
Then you have interests that play into the mechanics. Those interested in Health are fitness fanatics, while those interested in Food, rather just cook and eat. If sims like Travel, they might prefer Log Rolling or Tai Chi. If Sims are into Culture, Ballet and Dance Competitions might help. There are so many evolving combos of interests that will steer even a lazy sim toward working out (even if it is slower body skill building object).
Lastly, with TS2:FT came hobbies, and while Sims do have only one "True Hobby," they max out many, and can gain enthusiasm for whichever lot they go to. Once a sim in the household gains access to any hobby lot (level 5 enthusiasm), they can take even nonmembers with them (group outings). So, all the sims going to the Fitness Lot will gain Fitness enthusiasm while there, and whether they work out or not, they may autonomously do so outside, due to their higher enthusiasm.
On surface level, TS3 and TS4 win (but only for aesthetics). TS2 goes far more into depth than its successors. Not too shabby for a 20 year old game, eh?

Wow, thanks for the info I learned so much! I knew sims 2 personalities were amazing, but never knew it went THAT deep! 😮😮
The reason why I didn't include the Obstacle Course, in the tier list, it's because yes it increases body skill but not the fitness scale! Also I included the Punching Bag but under the gym equipment category (it's even shown in the video!)
The tier list is only about building fitness (attribute), muscle & weight loss, not how fast to build fitness skills!
But yeah, there was SO MUCH to cover, I couldn't avoid mistakes...😔

@@Sitycims Oh don't be down on yourself, I have been playing Sims games, since Sims City days (well, when I was old enough to play). I barely remember any of the changes in the Sim City Series, and still are learning new details for all the TS series, discovering more from watching content creators (especially TS4), than I do from playing.
I truly have to thank you for even your comparisons, which point out aspects that I overlook too. Currently, I am focusing on a huge project, which I initially thought would be an easy undertaking (Comparing TS2 Personalities to TS3 Personalties). 3 months in, I have yet to begin working on the script (have been working on TS3 moodlets for over a month now), and while one might think because TS3 has more to offer, the amount of Traits and moodlets would be more yield more diverse Personality Types than TS2, but between just Personality Points and Interests alone (which are just a bit more enhanced than TS1), it allows not just more Personality types, but also they not only evolve, but do so multidirectionally. Add in Hobbies, Genetics, Chemistry, Turn Ons/Offs, Primary/Secondary Aspirations (along with their benefits and meters), Wants/Fears, Magic System, Aspiration Rewards, Reputation System, Occult Hybrids, plus a ton of other additions from every EP (as well as a few minor additions with each SP), and the absolute best Memory System (which is not just based off of those you can view at a glance), and TS3 would have to add in thousands of mini traits (hidden quirks), plus expand ranges for their moodlets, while ridding any caps to the way traits are distributed.
I realized through my research that there are some areas where TS2 does evolve multidirectionally (albeit, not even close to TS2's ranges): TS3:ITF dreams can temporarily alter personalities, and in some cases, can become more permanent (but again, within the confines of the cap limitations); as for TS3:P, they have a similar system to TS2:P, whereby (even given) traits are multidirectional, and the ability to control them makes it far easier to handle (again, they do still lack the interests TS2:P have, as well as the Chemistry, ergo limitations are still present).
Overall, it is a fun project, and will likely take me about a year to complete.
Please keep putting out these videos, and pointing out the differences that you find, they are helpful to so many, and remember most of us commenting what you might have missed from our favorites in the series, are still learning about the subtle differences of the others (and even our favorites)❣

@@Sitycims Oh, and those were not mistakes you made, just aspects that are not easily found, or easily overlooked. Fir instance, I did not point out that jumping rope does not increase body skill (because it originally did), but the TS2:AL patch fixed it, along with the Physiology glitch (plus other bug fixes), but TS2:M&G broke them both (needing mods to fix them). Also, the Axe throwing was also supposed to build body, but you need mods for that as well. TS3 also has some bugs and glitches with their Store items (as they are not fleshed out for all cross-pack gameplay, but only for the basegame and its latest patch when said item came out). 👏 to the modders who step in, when EA fails us, as well as the content creators/community that point out bugs and glitches, ultimately forcing EA's hand somewhat to make changes❣

@@Sitycims One last thing, I had forgotten how fitness levels work in TS2, and was scratching my head why the Obstacle Course was not building up fitness at the same rate as any of the machines (or the punching bag), because it is the fastest way to gain body skill points. I finally realized, that it is "time" and "needs levels" that are also factored in. Those engaging in fitness activities for longer periods of time, will gain fitness levels faster. But because the obstacle course is extremely draining on so many needs, even trying to remain on the course is demanding on needs (even if you make their needs static). Thank you for pointing this out to me❣👏

So yeah thats so cool, we're learning more & more stuff, and I couldn't be more glad to see more & more people/creators doing videos or exploring these mechanics & details. Because, The Sims seems like a very easy game in terms of mechancis, but truthfully, it is so much more complex than we think! It's amazing how even after 20 years, there's so much more to learn about TS2!

to me I think it's much more realistic to be separate - look at a show like "physical 100" or just any other example where you see lots of different athletic body types. you can be very strong and athletic and be very fat, and imo having definition separate just allows for a wider range of body compositions, which is much more realistic to me
