I recently finished this game for the first time and I agree that it feels like filler. They could and should have waited until the sequel trilogy was released in its entirety to make a corresponding LEGO game.
I think they realised this pretty soon after this game was released. Hence the new skywalker saga game which is fantastic

Honestly it's biggest flaw is really just the fact that it is based on the force awakens. I it's strength is definitely the side content. Lots of never-before-seen characters to unlock, decent character customization and I really liked exploring parts of each planet from the movie. I also liked the new features such as the multi-build mechanic or the those shootout sections. So it still definitely has it's value.
Now that the Skywalker Saga exists, and is now on the market. I've been wondering this since TSS was announced, what was the purpose of Lego Star Wars The Force Awakens?
Yes, I do appreciate the game has voice clips from the movie, however now what? Is the game completely worthless? It no longer has the little value it barely had?

Yeah pretty much obsolete now.
I should note that they didn't just use voice clips from the movie. For the levels and such, they actually got the actors to voice their roles again.
This is because I noticed the characters are saying stuff they would never normally say in the movie. This is especially true for the bonus missions that are appartently canon to the actual lore which is weird.
So for me, it is in that unique position.
Definitely full of filler tho. You could tell they REALLLY should've waited until the trilogy was finished.

I think the reason that TFA got a LEGO game but TLJ/TROS didn't is because for a very brief period of time in 2015, it was near-universally beloved. Not that it didn't have critics, and wouldn't continue to have them as the years went on, but it was the highest-grossing movie of all time and so widely well known even people who didn't know what a Wookiee is had an opinion on this movie.
Not trying to capitalize on that success would have been kind of insane even though, as you point out, the movie was not built to support a LEGO adaptation on the scale of TCS just on its own. It didn't have enough locations and, indeed part of the problem with the movie, was that it was too fast-paced to stay in one location long enough to leave an impact when compared with the other six that could easily be expanded out into LEGO levels. The problem only got worse in TLJ which had a total of three locations, and given its "controversial" status, to put it simply, had no incentive to make an independent game for, and by the time TROS came about, everyone just wanted to be done with it.
However, I think the positive that one can glean from this is that we can look at LEGO TFA as a tech demo for what The Skywalker Saga could be like, having that same comedic charm from the old games while massively overhauling the graphics and gameplay mechanics to be in line with modern expectations. And since they have nine movies to base levels on instead of one, we can expect the pacing and level design to be much more succinct and coherent than in LEGO TFA where they were stretching it out needlessly to justify the full retail price.
That being said, it is bizarre that this will be the last LEGO Star Wars game to have character customization in it... wtf?
It frustrates me to this day that TFA somehow acquired so much acclaim when it is by far the worst of the sequel trilogy and may be a contender for one of the worst films of all time. I have more respect for TLJ and ROS because those two films tried to tell a story…granted, their stories were crap, but at least they tried. TFA hid so much of its narrative under “Mystery Box” BS that it didn’t even bother to tell a story at all.
Damn i remember back in like 2012 i played lego star wars 3 on the psp, the nostalgia i get just thinking abt it is unmatched

@@Fizhy I think you'll like it. It's not as good as TCS but there are still a couple fun levels in there and isn't nearly as filler as this game.
@@mellangard I remember really loving the battlefield levels where you take apart an enemy army bit by bit while your army grows bigger.

I prefer this game over Lego Star Wars the Skywalker Saga. I personally love that this game covers literally every moment of the movie and drags it out so much. While the Skywalker Saga spends 2 minutes with Poe Dameron on Jakku, in lego tfa this moment is covered by an entire level. You don't have to worry about not being able to play a scene from the movie. While I do agree that they should have made a sequel game instead of a game that covers a single movie, I do love the fact that everything is so dragged out.
"And at the end of every mission you stare at a screen unlocking characters that have never existed in Star Wars" Just like in 2005, yeah. That's kind of what you do in every SW game? They're always full of obscure characters, obviously they're gonna be new from the new movie. I don't get this complaint.
Aside from a couple missions, the quality of puzzles are on par if not better than TCS. Yes there's a lot per level, but that's usually seen as a good thing bc you're getting the same kind of experience as the other Lego games, just more per-scene than usual. It's just weird to me that you're finding fault in there being too many puzzles and too much stuff to do and too much... gameplay?
It feels like your bias against the source material has really hampered your enjoyment of the game, and you're finding "flaws" you wouldn't find fault in if this were a game about the prequels or OT.
Here's hoping you have a better experience with Skywalker Saga

I haven't played this one since it came out, but I remember not really liking it much compared to the original LEGO Star Wars trilogy. A lot of really stupid mechanics in this one, and it's so weird that it's just based on one movie.
Seeing Fizhy and Eyezayar in the same video makes my day. And hope full for some tasty RDR2 content.. 👀

I remember buying this game for a expensive price, I was quite disappointed with it, open world sucks and levels are plain boring especially the ones with the blaster shoot outs. But overall still got 100 percent % but never playing it again.

Don’t forget that Lego Star Wars the force awakens you unlock some characters but not all of them like wtf? I can get those white jetpack pieces but only one in a hard level which is you controlling the millennium falcon and going to recuse Rey but gosh man not me can even get 1 of those jetpacks on this Hard level? Give me a break
One of the things I hate about this game is the facial animations. They’re ugly. Palpatine looked like a baby flailing his arms around whilst crying. I HAVE to out on a helmet on my custom character. I really don’t know why I bought this. I played Skywalker Saga 1st and wow. Lego Star Wars skywalker saga is a WELL-DONE UPGRADE from this thing. The combat feels off. I’m not used to slamming using square anymore. But anyways that’s my opinion

This is the worst Lego game I've played. The problem with the game is that it has a lot of bugs & the updates didn't help ethier. The chapters take way to long, you can't skip cutscenes until the game's beat first, & worse crashes way to many d*$# times! I had to restart the whole stupid level. Oh this game adds swearing it's worse than shadow the hedgehog worse than this broken game. Just go watch the actual Force awakens movie or play the original Lego Star Wars the complete saga, that game runs 10 times better than this hot garbage!
