It’s 4 years since you posted this video and I just have to tell the both of you that I did do it myself and my USB drive works beautifully. At 67 and a woman who rarely uses a screw driver, I cannot thank you enough for giving me the encouragement and confidence to tackle this job. It took me about an hour

Were you able to use your own designs on your usb flash drive? And, were you still able to use the designs included with the machine? Thank you.
@@alth5062 yes you can. You load them onto a usb thumb drive. Just like the newer machines that use a usb thumb. You plug the thumb drive into your computer. Load the designs onto the thumb drive. Then plug the thumb drive into the sewing machine. Hit the floppy button on your screen just like if you inserted a floppy. My usb unit I have to this little data in button with the usb in, and the screen saying “retrieving designs” and then it pulls them up off the thumb drive.

I replaced the floppy drive in my ULT2001 with a USB Emulator about three years ago and it is still going strong. The ULT (same as the BabyLock Ellagio) - series machines were truly the "Ultimate" of their time. Yes, I have much newer Brother machines but the ULT is my travel and take-along warhorse machine (and I travel with it because after almost 20 years of hard work I think I have definitely gotten my money's worth out of the guy).
Thanks for the video. My wife mentioned last week that she wanted an embroidery machine. So I started looking at machines in our price range. Several of them were older floppy drives and I tried to find an upgrade, but didn't know what it was called. Now I know. I have already bought a Husqvarna Designer SE though.

I have the exact same machine and my husband and I have been trying to find drivers for it, which we did but still can't get the computer to recognize it so this video is PERFECT! Thanks you guys. Thanks for this! I wasn’t sure if they had an emulator for sewing machines. I knew they did for electronics as I repair those. I came across one of these machines for a great price that was NEVER used. I had to clean it and heat off the old oil and grease. Greased it and oiled it. Let it set over night. Then installed this drive. It works good as new. I love this machine. I’m so happy I found it! I love my vintage machines. But these computerized machines do cool things too. But I could never afford the cost they’re new. So happy with my NIB oldy score.

I had to replace the floppy drive several years ago, son put a quarter in the slot. LOL So, I have taken the machine apart. SOOO excited. Thanks so much for sharing!!!

I just bought a used Ult2002d today and also upgraded the floppy to usb! I had to take a drill bit to make the screw holes a tiny bit bigger on the emulator and I used the original screws from the floppy drive. For anyone about to do this, this video is great, just follow along. Only other advice I would give is there is one snap that is hard to pop and it is on the bottom below where the embroidery module door is if that makes sense!

Was just going thru. This is seller from Ebay "Floppy_to_usb" . Happy to see that product works fine for most of us. To answer the price rise , as I was not avalaiable for 15-20 days for dispatching , and even after puttiong my shop on vacation mode, customers were buying , As I knew that there would be delay so was increased by flat $100 , so that customer would definately send my question on that , and i would be answering them accordingly.

I have an ellageo also and it keeps saying cannot read disk, disk may be defective... What type of usb are using in yours?
@@kelliballinger2064 It was a replacement for the floppy drive. I am just using a 16gb USB drive that I had. I know you can't store files inside of folders, because the Ellageo won't recognize folders.
I hope it's not your floppy drive cable as well. My replacement didn't come with one.
Me too... I've tried to format like 4 usb sticks that I have here... And it won't recognize the file

I bought my emulator for $65 on eBay. And as funny as I've never used eBay so that was awesome. It took about 10 days to get it. Took me 30 minutes to put it in the sewing machine. Could not have done it without this video. My wife owes me big-time. Thank you so much.

Am upgrading my Brother ULT2002D soon and I would like info as to how to transfer easily all the floppies to the USB. What type of USB should I use.
Help! I have just upgraded my Brother 3000 with the Emulator, but its coming up with this error message “CAN NOT READ THIS DISK. THIS DISK MAY BE DEFECTIVE” regardless if a usb is inserted or not. My usb is reasonably new and formatted to FAT32. Am I doing something wrong? Should I be using an old style usb stick? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have found several listings for emulators, but is there one in particular that I should purchase? I may be overlooking something here. I'm sorry if you already said what to purchase :) I JUST got this machine at a garage sale for less than 100, and already Love it! trying to figure out how to load more design optiobs, and came across this video. after this change is made, what program would I use, or where could I download designs to use?
So any drive emulator will work ? I know this video is a couple of years old but I just inherited my mother inlaws embroidery machine and it has a floppy disk and would really like to upgrade it
I bought the recommended GoTek USB emulator from Ebay and installed it on my Brother Pacesetter ULT2003D. It did not work. It kept making my machine restart. I'm virtually positive it was because I was using a Mac computer. I have my Mac partitioned and have a "virtual" PC on it, I have to use the PC to run my old embroidery software. After trying everything possible to try to get the emulator to work, I gave up and reinstalled the floppy. Then I couldn't get my floppies to work! I had just recently bought Embrilliance software and installed it on my Mac. If I used Embrilliance my machine would not recognize the floppy, and I couldn't just use my old software on my "virtual" PC after my floppy disk had been used with Embrilliance on my Mac. I had to reformat my disks for a PC and used my old software on my "virtual" PC, using Windows XP, then my machine would recognize the floppies. I've come to the conclusion that my machine can't handle even a floppy that's been in contact with a Mac. From what I understand a USB memory stick is programmed to work with PC's and Mac's, so as soon as I connected the memory stick to my Mac, my Mac "took over" and left some kind of "imprint" on it, then my embroidery machine wouldn't recognize it.
Obviously I'm not techie. I could be completely wrong. But I'm wondering if the other people who couldn't get the USB emulator to work were using a Mac computer? Has anyone been able to use a Mac computer with the emulator? If so, what software did you use? (I have spent all day messing with this and was about in tears when I couldn't even get my floppies to work! Time for a glass of wine.)
I finally have the emulator floppy to USB installed by a Brother Tech. I sent with the machine flash drives loaded with Brother Images. Now I'm told that you must format the flash drive. I think this is the problem from the beginning that flash drive was not formatted and machine could not read it. What else must I do in order to be PES designs on the formatted flash drive????

I got this machine second hand. I’m not sure I want to try what you did but. I was wonder if you could show how to use this machine. If you know where to get the floppy discs or if you can still by cards for this machine. I have never used this machine And have had it at least 5 yrs. thanks

I installed the floppy disc emulator and it retrieved a design once and it now doesn’t upload the design from the flash drive... what am I doing wrong ?

trying to be CPT Obvious but the only thing we can think of is that maybe the “ribbon
cable” or whatever it’s called came loose.
We did cut a few things from the video but only bloopers, too many “hubbys”
and to make it shorter…..otherwise everything went perfect and it read the jump

Reup Eddie The ribbon that came with it had crease in it. Hubby cracked it open again and used the original ribbon and it worked!!!! Yay!!!!! Thanks again!!

Update on the ebay Seller "floppy_to_usb" that we purchased our emulator from, it turns out that s/he has multiple listings of the exact same item. Prices range from $65 to $115 (at least the $155 is gone!) but…being CPT Obvious again…….if the $65 drive is the same as the $115 drive…why would I pay $115?!?! We still stand by the model we bought from this seller, it worked the first time after installation and is still working. ***Note: We Do Not like the way the "Shipping" is worded, in the Listing it is listed for $65, Shipping is listed separately $20, in a comment area it clearly states "The prices of the expedite shipping are included in the list price." We would suggest sending a question to the seller for verification, or assume it’s not included.
The “seller” claims this emulator will convert the following sewing machines (SM): Brother ULT 2002D, Babylock Ellageo ESG, 2003 Brother ULT 2001, Brother SUP Galaxie 3000. PLEASE do not ask us if it works with ANY OTHER models, we can only say it worked on our Brother ULT 2002D! Thanks!

I have a Babylock esg3. it looks a lot like this machine. Is this compatible with mine? Is there another emulator that has been working for folks other than this one?
Sorry, don't know and there seems to be a lack of videos out there on this which is why we did it. Try and see on eBay and video it, just in case it works. lol

I followed your video and changed out my floppy drive to usb. put everything back together, turned machine on and tried to load a pattern and it tells me that it can't read the pattern. It lights up, so I think it is connected right. What are the 2 buttons next to the light for? Can you shed any light on the situation?

honestly don’t know what the buttons are for, and as for your drive not reading
the file it can only be one of two things “that I can think of” (but I am NOT a
computer geek) either it is in the wrong file format .pes or the jump drive you
are using is not compatible with the emulator 32 FAT versus 64 FAT, but I
really would find that last one to be the case.
We don’t have our instructions anymore, but as you can see they are very
limited as far as explaining anything, I would suggest Googling the model of
the emulator to find out the buttons question.

What I meant to say in that last sentence referencing the 32 FAT\64 FAT is that the 32 FAT versus the 64 FAT is probably a very unlikely scenario.

S/he has increased the price of the emulator from the $75.00 that we paid in Nov 16 to $155 today! #1 There are ebay sellers that offer the exact same product for a lot less, so for now we recommend to research another seller OTHER than “floppy_to_usb”! #2 If seller floppy_to_usb, decides that greed is not worth the loss of an endorsement and changes the price to a reasonable increase for a New Year (like $5, Hint Hint), then we still recommend this seller. Otherwise, forget it!

@@chuckcarter9700 do you have pictures of the one you purchased. I have made a comparison from the video to one being sold on Amazon and it is exactly the same. The pictures on ebay are very deceiving as it is the same picture for multiple sites.

I bought mine from seller khalidsiddiqi on ebay for $99. (The $55 drive comes from India and I did not want to wait). It came with a usb thumbdrive, which had the manual on it. The holes for the drive cover were a tad too small, which I reamed out with a tiny round file, that worked fine.

You can still use the card reader, but the floppy reader will be removed, so you can no longer use floppy disks.
For some reason, my usb emulator does not recognize designs on my usb. Can anyone help or direct me some help?

We have converted Brother ULT 2002D machine from floppy to USB. The process went fine but when I put a USB in the port, with designs on it, message is that it can't read the "disk" faulty. So we put in another USB, with designs on it, get same message. Is there we're missing. The floppy drive stopped reading floppies so the urgency to convert. Anyone help, please.
I have just replaced my floppy drive with a USB drive and I get the same message as you with two different USB sticks:( Message is no disk inserted or this disk may be defective. Have you had any further luck?
I’m not certain why you’re getting that error message but somewhere down further in the comments somebody made a remark about the USB only being able to transfer 144mb Of data at a time due to machine limitations. I think he/she linked a video, I hope this helps because it’s a great machine it would be nice to have the tech available to be able to still use it....

@@fellersannamarie2539 - I do normally use an iMac but for this project I used a very old windows laptop with a floppy disc drive. The emulator, when fitted in my Brother Galaxie 3100D sewing & embroidery machine, kept giving an error message so I connected the USB emulator into the laptop to make sure it would read a USB stick. It worked fine reading files etc. I abandoned the project and re-installed the original floppy drive back into the sewing machine. I hope someone has a solution one day😁
