I was hoping to see "Iris" by The Goo Goo Dolls. But this list is impossible to get right or wrong. Sooooooo many songs to choose from, a top 20 can never do it justice.

Yeeeesss!!!! This is the music I grew up in my high school years. I would sing them over and over and help me forget my school troubles in my bedroom as I sing them to myself while doing my homework. My faves from this list include Aqua’s Barbie Girl, Christina’s Genie in a Bottle, Brandy and Monica’s The Boy is Mine, Backstreet Boys I Want It That Way, The Spice Girls Wannabe, Toni Braxton’s Unbreak My heart, Celine Dion’s My Heart Will Go On, Britney’s Baby One More Time and Whitney’s I Will Always Love You. Because of these songs, I got to know these artists and their music thereafter. And now as an adult in her late 30s, I will listen to these songs and still belt them out like I’m a teen again with fond nostalgia.
I love how many of these songs came out in 1999 alone. Even "Baby One More Time," which was released in late 1998, didn't blow up until early 1999. 1995 was also a year for iconic songs! And the #1 spot is certainly deserved. I figured that was it. :)
Can’t believe Cher’s “Believe” didn’t make Top 20. Are you sure? It was a defining moment not just for Cher’s career but the way dance pop music sounded ever since. Also your top 20 is definitely missing “Missing” by Everything but the Girl

Yeah got to say Believe really is an obvious choice. Do they really have a thing against Cher? I can’t imagine any other reason Cher wouldn’t be right up there! I mean she’s been on top for decades
These songs defined my childhood, how nostalgic! Happy saturday afternoon, Phoebe, take care and God bless you, greetings from Colombia to you as well.
I played The Sign so many times when I was a kid that even far into my 30s my mother hated it & could still identify it with just a few opening notes ...following up I also played Don't Turn Around so much she couldn't handle listen to that one either even decades later 😊

To be fair, I think "End of the Road" is just straight out RnB not pop, so I'm surprised it even got an honorable mention. Definitely be up the top of a RnB list!

There are a lot of real good ones here. My favorite song is "You Oughta Know," followed closely by "You Can't Touch This." My favorite video is "Genie in a Bottle" because Christina's stunningly gorgeous, I still watch it today. You mentioned that "Waiting for Tonght," "Mambo No. 5" and "I Will Always Love You" were based on older works, but you could have also mentioned that the title "The Boy is Mine" was inspired by a Paul McCartney/Michael Jaclson duet from the 1982 called "The Girl is Mine."
Great list! I’d add “Ebow the Letter” by REM, “Streets of Philadelphia” by Springsteen, “Autumn Sweater” by Yo La Tengo, “Common People” by Pulp, “Heaven or Las Vegas” by Cocteau Twins, “855-7019” by The Bee Gees
Great list! I definitely think Los del Rio's Macarena should have been on there, though as not only the song is iconic but the choreography is still danced at parties until today!,
The 90’s were the golden years for everything! The music, movies, shows, and social networking was at its best. Music artists actually recorded their own lyrics and there was no social media or computer assistance to keep us occupied. If you didn’t get to grow up in the 90’s, you missed so much! Good times. 😊
the 1980s was more my era but there was a great deal of good music from the 90s and some brilliant songs on this list. Mumbo No. 5 - didn't know it originated in 1950, I'll look for that when I've finished watching this. Barbie Girl a great hit, a No. 1 hit in the UK.
I was surprised to find out that the guy who played Britney's love interest in the "Baby" music video was her cousin, Chad Spears. Although they only exchange suggestive glances across the basketball court, they could have picked ANY other guy who wasn't related to her for the role.
Maybe Britney suggested him for the role I mean unless you've been following the spears family since her.days on the Disney channel as a mousketeer ( Mickey Mouse club the new generation).I seriously doubt that any of her fans ever knew that
I was surprised in the lagged songs they kicked for some of the list. I felt Mariah Carey's One Sweet Day & Michael Jackson's Black Or White should've been listed here. Still, viva la Whitney Houston for having the greatest song from the 90's with I Will Always Love You. I couldn't agree with that choice anymore. It truly is a extraordinary work of art!!!
Michael Jackson went through a slump starting in 1993 because he was accused of molesting a 13 year old boy and he ended up going through a ten year legal battle because of it and his drug use got worse at the time. Even though he had some good songs in the 90’s like Black or white, You are not Alone, Earth Song and They don’t care about us.
im 12 yrs old and I only came here to listen to these songs for the novel im writing (there's a scene where my characters listen to 1990s songs) this is better than I expected :))))
I was born in second half of the 80´ so the 90´ are the decade when I first start to perceive music. So thank you for taking me back. I love almost all the songs here except Waiting for tonight. But that can have something to do with me hating JLo and all her songs... Other than that, one gem after another. I sung with almost all of them :-).
Whenever the person compiling this list is asked, "are you a Backstreet Boy or a N'SYNC fan" the answer is so obviously clear. Seriously, not only did N'SYNC not make the list but they didn't even make an honorable mention. Total miss on your part, MsNogo.
I totally agree that Whitney's version of I Will Always Love You should be the #1 song of the 90's. There were many great songs of the era but hers was tops in my opinion
There are two songs on this list that probably should've charted higher due to their social significance. Ricky Martin's "Living La Vida Loca" led the powerful Latin music explosion of the '90s, supported by performers like Enrique Iglesias, Shakira, Marc Anthony, and many more. Madonna's "Vogue" served as a crucial crossover point for gay culture into the mainstream. After the devastation and discrimination of the AIDS Crisis in the 1980s, this song helped to celebrate gay communities, providing greater support for LGBTQ+ acceptance and rights.

All bops the good old days 🥹❤️
I was surprised in the lagged songs they kicked for some of the list. I felt Mariah Carey's One Sweet Day & Michael Jackson's Black Or White should've been listed here. Still, viva la Whitney Houston for having the greatest song from the 90's with I Will Always Love You. I couldn't agree with that choice anymore. It truly is a extraordinary work of art!!!
When "...Baby, one more time" was number 2 I was like, "What song could be more 90s pop than that?" But the number 1 is well deserved for Whitney.
The fact tubthumping isn’t on here hurts man. I still jam out to it often!
I cannot believe that Cher's 'Believe' only got an hon'ble mention.
No Michael Jackson?
Surprised no Michael Jackson 😮.
Top 20 is not enough. There’s so many great songs from the 90’s.☺️
XTINA ❤
Whenever the person compiling this list is asked, "are you a Backstreet Boy or a N'SYNC fan" the answer is so obviously clear. Seriously, not only did N'SYNC not make the list but they didn't even make an honorable mention. Total miss on your part, MsNogo.
❤🎉
Great list ❤
What a perfect and legendary top 3
I loved ace of base❤ all of these are great memories
#1 is correct.
I really love the Backstreet boys song called I want it that way
I like majority of these songs ❤
Not one Michael Jackson song? That’s crazy. He deserves to be on this list.
What about “Believe” Cher? It was like one of the biggest hits of the area.
Backstreet boys will always be my number 1
Mine too!,all of them
Fully agree! Proud bsb fan for over 20 years! Ktbsbpa!❤
Jennifer Lopez made the list for the 90's but nothing from En Vogue like Free Your Mind or nothing from Michael Jackson or Jañet Jackson?
Number one is sooo true.......
Lovefool- The Cardigans
I totally agree that Whitney's version of I Will Always Love You should be the #1 song of the 90's. There were many great songs of the era but hers was tops in my opinion
Always be my baby 🩵🩵
Genie in a bottle a certified Bop
Say my name a bop forever
I was happy that Christina Aguilera won an award as best new artist, beating Britney Spears. Such an incredible voice!
because people prefer Quality than quantity that time
My Heart Will Go On 💗💗💗💗💗
But where's Cher's Believe?
It's the 3rd biggest female song of the 90's after Whitney's and Celine's.
i'd go for:
1. stay (i missed you) - 1994
2. iris - 1998
3. one of us - 1995
4. one sweet day - 1995
4. basket case - 1994
Number one was iconic and powerful
Barbie girls absolutely iconic
Dolly Parton wrote and sang " I Will Always Love You" in 1974. She ended all of her shows with that song
Damn I wish You Were Lover!? It should have made the countdown! Agree with #1 though

99’ was a good year for music! That’s the year I was born
Britney And Christina 🙌🏾
I detest number #8 and all the honorable mentions except 1. Everything else I love.
When are you doing to do some Billie Piper songs, she was a singer from 1998 to 2003. Please do one
Baby one more time😍>>>>>>
There are two songs on this list that probably should've charted higher due to their social significance.
I'm so happy that I will always love you is number 1 😘🥰
love it obsessed with it NSYNC not featured but swoon worthy melodic catchy sexy boy bands to all american girl power upbeat tracks music of my life
