I don't understand not feeling like dancing when this comes on. That's just happy music. And there is a TH-cam short about where they made some sounds from. One part is from Leesa on Green Acres.
Something I just learned the other say completely by accident is that the "I - I - I - I" sample that hits before she sings "I couldn't dance for another" is actually the first syllable of Eva Gabor singing "I get allergic smelling hay" from the Green Acres theme song.
I was working security at Richards on Richards in Vancouver, 1992 and Lady Kier was there with Deee-Lite. She was fantastic, and I got to party with her after the gig. A total blast, sweet, sweet woman. LOVED this review, totally brought back memories.
I think this song is in the running for the best one hit wonder ever. Its so good in many ways! A great groove, fantastic vocals and always puts you in a better mood than before.
10:04 Nick, QTip’s bars were _always_ part of the original song. That said, an interesting reaction bc I thought you two would really enjoy it. Disappointing but it’s all good and I do appreciate ppl, in general, saying that a particular song/genre isn’t for them. Posted it often and will do it again: _everything isn’t for everybody_ . ✌🏽
They're tasteless posers! They were bopping and doing the freak face the whole time! And then have nerve to say: "I don't like it"! Pretentious Twits! Should be the name of this channel...
Yes, it was the 90s and in Madrid we danced to this song like crazy in a club called Stella. The people were like the ones in the video. beautiful and very funny people
I think at the time it was just different with adding in the 60s psychedelic look of the video. Don’t forget, videos were still everything back in the day. I loved it then, but just like B-52’s - Love Shack, it’s overplayed.
There’s two versions of this song. This version which has rap part and then there’s a non rap cut. Both were played on the radio but radio stations tend to play the non rap version because it’s shorter. Radio stations generally like to play short version of songs. This means that they can play more songs and commercials. Especially commercials.
If you haven't already, check out the B 52s hit Love Shack. They had a couple of others but this is their biggest and will light a 🔥under you. Do the official video if you can, it's a gas!
B52s were not a one hit wonder band. Their first album in 1979 was huge. Rock Lobster, Planet Claire, 52 Girls, Dance this mess around - all classics, especially Rock Lobster.
They were big for a minute. Pure dance music. They were intentionally extra and over the top. This was a time when we were very hungry for something unusual. They were just fun.
As soon as the beat starts...It gets me everytime. I could listen to the song over and over. Every now and then we get treated to songs like this...like Never going to give you up, or Dancing Queen...
this song is one that the first couple times you hear it and you are like "wtf is this??" then you hear it a few more times and are like "OK I kind of get it" then 10 years pass and you're like "this is my jam!!"
if you're in the 90s, and you've heard this song at least 10 times, and each time you've heard it you're about 5 drinks into the night, it helps you appreciate the song a lot more. and DJ sampling was still relatively new and all the rage at the time. still a banger for me.
Trust me as a metal head I was grooving on this song. Hell yeah ! (& that was the beauty of 1990s European festivals where literally every genre was on the stage) Happy times, coalitions :)
It's always interesting to see how people perceive different songs. I love reaction videos and I love your channel and no two people have the same reaction to any song. I've seen another reaction video to this song and one person loved it and the other person just liked it. Personally, this is one of my top three favourite songs because it's so unique and catchy and a bit 'out there'. I've always loved it I love the positive vibes throughout and the rap part is the icing on the cake.
th-cam.com/video/qZ_QQyE3z4Q/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-y9r2PhzXJO21FTv Beyond "Groove is in the Heart," it can be argued that Deee-Lite was largely typecast by the music industry and not truly given the opportunities to have their music played on top 40 format stations in America. "Groove is in the Heart" is a rare exception and that was a top #5 hit. A huge piece of evidence that Deee-Lite was pigeon-holed into being a dance music band was that while "Groove is in the Heart" was the sole major pop hit, the group had SIX #1 songs on the dance charts in their very short five year run. It would have been interesting to see what might have happened with Deee-Lite if they got more air time on top 40 stations in America. At this point in the "one hit wonder" marathon, "Groove is in the Heart" has to lead all songs with a nearly insurmountable lead of sampling a documented 10 plus songs in just that tune. Not surprisingly, the song has been sampled nearly 60 times and covered over 10 times. Perhaps the most recognizable artist or group to cover the song was Blues Traveler in 2023. The link to the Blues Traveler cover is the link above. I'm interested to hear the guys thoughts as I'm not sure there has been a somewhat "recent" upbeat dance type song on the marathon up this point. That will definitely end with this next video. 😀

That’s Bootsy Collins from Parliment Funkadelic playing bass in the video. To me, it’s a novelty song with a cartoon like video that wasn’t really meant to be taken seriously. It had its 15 minutes when it was on heavy rotation all over MTV, then it went away and was quickly forgotten about. I am a 59yo rock metal fan but always liked this song.
I’m 61. This song jams
It’s fun
Nobody cares what kind of music you like. Good music is good music.
Who doesn't
Hey, me too but I'm 62. I have this album on CASSETTE!!
Oh baby I do so love this song and I'm 71 years old. Always want to dance party
It’s just so…Campy!

I was a DJ when this song came out and it sure filled the dance floor....
Was a great time to be alive, these jocks just don’t have groove in their heart.
And possibly I was on one of your dance floors. Great vibe. I was there.
Me too, if you don't vibe to this then you are not a good DJ, and got no soul. Like these reviewers.

"Songs That Sound Drunk" is going to be the name of my new party songs playlist.

Dude, the ladies luuuuuuuuuuuv this song! Danced with hundreds of babes from 6th grade to graduation cause this song was at EVERY dance!
Shout out to Bootsy Collins, Fred Wesley, Maceo Parker and Q-Tip! Check out something from Deee-Lite's album "Dewdrops in the Garden." Peace.
“Stay In Bed, Forget The Rest” 🔥

The lady dancing is doing practically all the dance moves from the 70's & 80's and she's nailed it.☺️💃🪩
Man this came out when I was in 6th grade and man I remember this at many parties
I was about to start 5th grade. August 1990.
Bootsy Collins gave this the cred it needed - all good from there.
Didn’t play bass on it though. Good to see and hear him in the video.
Q-Tip on rap duty. On bass- Bootsy Collins who played for James Brown as well as Maceo Parker on sax.
And Parliament-Funkadelic
Bootsy didn't play bass on this he's just in the video and a few vocals
@@monsterhog1118 he did play some live shows with them and his rubber band though, which is cool.
This song is pure and simple fun!
🔥🔥🔥

*Dances to the entire first half of the song*
