    What do you think of tool #2? What does your cartoon character for anxiety look like?

    • @TheMillennialParent
      @TheMillennialParent 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love the character idea, separating it by creating it's own form seems perfect.
      Do you have any tips for how to encourage someone to create their character if they're hesitant of creating one?

    • @BarbaraHeffernan
      @BarbaraHeffernan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@TheMillennialParent Hi: Some people can be resistant to using visualization. In those cases, I will generally suggest different tools. Mindfulness is really the key. Being aware of what your thoughts are and labelling them as "anxiety thoughts." That way they don't feel like they ARE you. Does that make sense? LMK if that is helpful.

      I feel the same way.
      I have 2 kids and I want to be with them, to play and go outside with them, but I barely have the energy to do so. I always think I am doing things the wrong way and have zero believe in myself. I used to think that I am lazy, because people around me do so many activities and I can barely do one thing, but in time started to understand that there is more to that. I am always anxious about things and this just sucks my energy. I have anxiety, took medications and a stopped them. I was feeling better for some period, but something at work struck me and all came back. I really wish you to get better and get over it. I know how bad and scary is.

No point in talking to normal earthlings about alien problems they just don't understand you need to spend some time around likeminded people. I really like this! Other CBT modules I have seen say, thoughts affect feelings, and feelings affect behavior. They don't recognize that you could have a feeling that you don't necessarily believe was linked to a thought at first, so you feel anxiety because you feel anxiety ect.

      Hi: I am so pleased that this video helped you realize you aren't alone. Many people struggle with this problem. Most areas in the US have low cost mental health services, and 211 is a great resource to try to access them. I also have a video on finding a therapist th-cam.com/video/Tc_MNa257nk/w-d-xo.html, and it references a website www.psychologytoday.com where you can look for someone who takes your insurance. Schools may also be able to help locate resources. It is sad that the lack of understanding of these issues make people dismiss them. I wish you lots of luck on your recovery journey!

      Thankyou Barbara. I used to have general anxiety and found healthy ways to deal with it such as meditation and exercise up to a 3 years ago. Then everything changed. I met people that made me aware of a trauma from childbirth and found a therapist that unlocked trauma from childhood abuse and revisited a drink spiking trauma caused by abuse. I try to manage, still by using these techniques. I changed jobs and straight away found prescription medication in my food and drinks at work even though I was trying to settle into a new position and studying and someone breaking in my house and putting it in my food at home too. It affected my life dramatically as I am allergic to a lot of medication and has created much more pain, greater anxiety regarding paranoia about food tampering and safety than before just managing general anxiety. It has left me with shortness of breath, numbness in hands and lips and confusion and sleepiness shutting down the whole brain to a body numb and on the edge of a coma. I am not exactly sure mixing tramadol, oxycodone, pregabalin and PCP is helpful for a person working through trauma and having been given other prescribed medication from a psychiatrist. It tends to send you in a coma. These people that work in retail and manufacturing that are tampering with peoples food for money must have a warped mindset. It’s as though they are angry at the world and want to cause injuries to customers. They have no clue about the affects of contraindications with medical care and prescription drugs! I would personally prefer to deal with a slight anxiety with no medication whilst journaling than the added physical affects of a drugs overdose from retail and manufacturing negligence.

    @barbaraheffernan,
    First of all I would like to thank you so much for putting such important content online. It helps me immensely to watch your video❤ and
    My question is: what to do when your anxiety is also linked to an chronically physical disease? because I suffer from progressive chronic illness and it’s really hard to put my GAD at easy when the outcome could be so devastating.
    Greetings from France ❤

    Very informative, love your dog. I have such a busy life and was recently diagnosed with GAD. I think I have suffered on and off over the years. I keep tell myself not to take on too much but I just don't listen to it.

      Hi Renee: So glad you found the video informative. Identifying the issue can be a super helpful first step (as I'm sure you know!). Recovery from GAD is definitely possible, it just takes time. Wishing you all the best.

    What can one do about overthinking? Can one train away overthinking?

    • @BarbaraHeffernan
      @BarbaraHeffernan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. Overthinking is definitely part of anxiety. Re-wiring our brains takes time and practice - but it can be done!

    Yep and this is the thing its anxiety . When I have been in the street and thought that I was going to die I would have similar situations and the thing is that its anxiety even when you have the same experience of an anxiety symptom say for example you have this thought that your dieing challenge the thought when was the last time from the similar thought nothing happened.
