  • Syncing the carb ensures they open and flow at the same rate for balanced operation.

    I'm just about to synch the carbs on my 1993 900SS. Carbs cleaned & rebuilt, valves re-shimmed, ready to go. The problem I have is getting to that damn balancing screw. I still have the standard airbox (with top removed & square K&N air filter) but getting at that screw is still difficult. I think can do it with a head torch & long screwdriver. However, I notice that you have separate round air filters on each carb. Do you think that would make it run leaner than the square K&N with airbag top removed? It would certainly make carb access easier.

      I don't think it leans it out at all. This one had the K&N on top of the airbox when I bought it. I just didn't like the airbox. There's only two things when you switch. The filters require more cleaning maintenance because they're exposed and when you run in the wet they will get soaked from the front wheel. Not usually a problem for me but it runs a little rough with the wet filters till about 5k. When they start to dry out everything is normal.

    @Eldest Builds Hey 👋 have you ever check out how to sync carburetor the right way and the wrong way on How To Wrench? It talks about calibration of the carb sync tool. It's only 6 minutes long.. but my left guage is lower points to the left more than the right even when no vacuum is on it. How with that video or how would you calibrate or what do you think?

    • @ELDESTBuilds
      @ELDESTBuilds  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't synced my sync but it has four and I probably don't use the same ports all the time. It ran much better after so all is well. Then I put on FCRs and it's even better.

      @@ELDESTBuilds I only have a double gauge and the right gauge is for the rear cylinder and the front gauge is for the front. So I'm wondering how I should set it or should I just get another guage..

    Been looking for vacuum gauges to sync my 94 900SS. Rebuilt the carbs lately and the bike sounds just like yours, pre balancing, Question - where did yah pick-up your vacuum gauges? Having trouble finding the right little 'pipe adapters' for the inlet screw. thanks

    All good info. So you have idle mix, idle speed and sync. With the gauges ready where do you start? And is there any order to it.

    • @ELDESTBuilds
      @ELDESTBuilds  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's no particular order but any changes made can effect other settings. Get the bike idling is step one for me. Then set mixture the vacuum gauges will help. Then rev it to 3k and sync.
