I live with cPTSD and DID. Recently, I see clearly how my whole life has been lived in survival mode with freezing response to anything that causes the fear impulse. Over the years, I have seen how my fears have generalized. There is not much that I am not afraid of. I am certain of nervous system dysfunction, but this new insight is not likely to benefit me. Don't get me wrong. I am so happy that advances are being made for the wounded.

Generally, when asking for forgiveness, I'm at minimum admitting to a negative act. Then regretting the act should spark a desire to change; that great but brief state where I'm available to suggestions and good people are key.
The person being asked for forgiveness can, if they choose, forgive without enabling a repeat of the behaviour. Forgiveness is more for the person who's been harmed; it releases them from resentment. But it's all so much easier set on paper (or a screen) than put into reality.

Self hatred and self loathing doesn't come solely with sexual abuse. It can be just as intense with ongoing mental, emotional cruelty or neglect. It doesn't apply only to sexual abuse.
