Swayze's version of this deck ran Invasion of Tolvada, which I think improves the reliability. Firstly it means you have 8 cards to go off instead of 4. Secondly Squirm can chain into Invasion if your graveyard isn't descended enough.
As someone who played this deck quite a bit when LCI first came out (altho not this exact list, I had a few make disappears), nothing made me happier when my opponent played a Jace against me. Like, thanks for milling this sweet Atraxa into my graveyard, lemme just reanimate it and hit you in the face for 7 XD. Altho yea I could see it go wrong too.
@@1ryb360"Thank you, opponent, for using Atraxa to pull more cards out of your deck. I 1-Mana bounce your Atraxa and we mill again. Please replay your Atraxa smile?
I was playing someone on Arena and the whole match they kept emoting me everytime they brought back Atraxa or each time they used go for the throat to save her from my white exile. It wasn't too long before they realized they only had 3 cards left to draw and then ghosted the rest of the game
Another nice add to the top end is hullbreaker horror, lets you use all those low cost spells as double removal for wierd enchantments/artifacts/tokens/planeswalkers. The black and blue invasion is decent in this deck too. Helps give you some alternate lines if you cant fins your emergence
Been playing a variation of the squirmergence deck and its exactly like that. When it works it feels like such an op powerplay, then again there are plenty of instances where you don't have the pieces in place or you are just a turn too slow for this meta
In the audio settings of the game, you can enable background audio, so when you click away it keeps playing. I had the same issue yesterday. Thanks for all of the great videos!
47:36 Instead of the shield counter, you should have destroyed one of the mites with his destroy artifact mode. Would have kept you in at 8 poison counters.
Hey CGB, saw the constant land troubles you were having and thought I would just make one card recommendation that I think will help with the strat your going for. Blancheood prowler can take up the 2 mana slot for the one mill wizard, and allow you to both mill and hit your land drops, as well as counting as a permanent one it’s killed for a jump block. You already have a decent amount of ways to cast your squirm from graveyard/get it back from graveyard, you hitting land drops seems to be a struggle though. Just wanted to throw the suggestion out there
One important thing you need to know about One with the Multiverse, is that you can cast spells from the top not only for 0, but by paying their mana cost, so you could get rid of cheap stuff searching for the big hitters.
At 17:35 you could have discarded a squirming emergence so you could have gotten it back with founding the third path. You could have also cast your other bitter triumph during your upkeep to discard the atraxa if one didn't get milled.
I played three squirming versions, and had the exact same experience with all of them. If you like combo decks in the play queue it is worth the crafting cost.
I love Squirming Emergence. My video that goes live tomorrow pulled off a turn 3 on the play Ghalta into Titan and Etali, but the opponent scooped before seeing the Titan and Etali. It's a lot of fun.
14:19 I've never seen a more obvious pre-sunfall block in my life! They still stopped 4 damage but left one more of your creatures out to beef up the token :)
I've been running a transformative version of this deck in BO3 lately. My sideboard often puts a few Jace's into the mill but squirming emergence + a 1x Lier often add consistency to win the race even if I mill myself a little bit first.
Been waiting for this one! I just got back into MTG after quitting after Return to Ravnica I think. It's funny, the deck I played reminds me so much of this. Had Grizly salvage and mulch and I don't even remember what reanimated the stuff but you used Grizelbrand usually or the big green 13/13 guy.
I've been tuning a bo1 jund anvil deck and it lost pretty much every time to squirming emergence decks. Then I went up to 4 riveteers charm(the card is at least good in every matchup) which basically says target squirming emergence player loses the game and now the deck beats squirming emergence most of the time. Soul cauldron is kinda the same deal but riveteers charm is better in more other matchups and also shuts down souls of the lost which these squirming emergence decks also usually play. Also kinda off topic jund anvil has been consistently climbing mythic for me currently peaking at ~40 mythic. The deck is super underrated and I'm surprised I've seen literally no one else play it. Tldr: Riveteers charm totally shuts down this whole deck and you can mainboard 4 of them in bo1 and feel good aobut cause it ranges from good to great in every matchup.
Ive played this deck alot, it's tons of fun. The thing is, you NEED the currate because that let's you bin stuff but also make sure you hit your lands, because the odds of milling 2 or 3 lands and drawing the 7 mana bombs are too high if your not stacking the odds in your favor
Judging from the gameplay shown, the weakness in this deck is simply the lack of land recursion if you're too much milling lands and not reanimation target. By that time, you'll have high probability of "drawing reanimation traget such as Atraxa, etc, while having too few lands to cast it normally from your hand" situation. Life from the Loam will work wonders in this deck. Sadly it isn't available.
Random question for anyone here. I am returning to MtG and I have the new Jace, for the life of me I am finding putting together a mill deck for standard almost impossible. How viable is mill these days?
The real answer is mill is not competitively viable as main wincon but is competitively viable as secondary wincon for control mirrors. UW control will run 1+ Jace to improve the control matchup. You *can* forgo any other wincon and add a few other mill like worldbreaker, but it's significantly worse. Will still win a decent % of games though so knock yourself out if that's your thing. Anyways, start by pulling out any UW control list, the most subbable cards are the ones that make creatures.
ive seen some crazy decks with the new set in between the constant mono red. spelunking with triomes also seemed like a crazy idea to get your mana to work
Anthony Bourdain went to Iceland and had some aweful food and about froze to death. Hope you had a better time than he did. Did you try the fermented shark?
Or Portal to Phyrexia instead of Titan. That kills 3 mites in one go and leaves 3 blockers for 4 mites, which means that CGB would also end up only at 8 and with proliferate 9 poison. Titan puts more power on the board for a quicker counterattack, so might still be the better play.
I've been using a much more aggressive self mill golgari deck with an Olivia and Ghalta / Etali / Ojer as top end revives to maximize damage and amount of cheated creatures and I'm at 58% winrate after 56 matches. Olivia lowers the needed amount of descended permanents to 6 which allows for some crazy T4 plays if everything's going your way.
My squirming emergence deck is 4 color . Blk,blu, green, and wht , so I have more than one card bringing stuff back. So on a perfect hand a turn 3 can be ugly for opponents.
I was playing bant beanstalk control against this earlier and the only reason I lost was because arena decided I needed a 14th (useless) land insead of a march of other worldly light or boseiju. Opponent had 3 cards had left in library.
Seems to me that some decks just make the shuffler crazy. If you do rhe maths, the deck is legit but when you run it, the shuffler punishes you. There are far too many times you see 5 lands piles in your Atraxa choices or in your milling piles.
Having played quite a lot of this; this is just about the worst form of the Squirm deck (albeit one you'll often see on ladder). The single, MOST important card in the entire deck is Founding the third path. It's not even close. It's "free", it mills you, and because of how squirm works, it might as well be Squirm 5-8. The third best card (after 3rd path and Squirm) is Invasion of Tolvada... which somehow isn't even in the deck. Archaeologist? Terrible card because it doesn't work with 3rd path. Bristleback? WORSE card. Taking 2 mana to cycle is a death sentence and your 7 drops need to either (nearly) win the game on the spot or be something that 3rd path can cast on 2. Bitter Triumph? Playable card... barely. Certainly not a 4 of. ~90% of the time you'd rather have drawn VoP. Even Vinewall is probably better, and that's not a constructed card. Tri-lands? Very suboptimal. The better tap lands are fetches, the best tap lands are the ones you find a way to cut.
