    Love this series, Glenn. Its great to get a taste of some games that we missed over he in the west. Love the opening where you show the box and manual also. As for the game, I've never actually played any of the N64 Goemon titles...criminal I know, I should really give one a go. All the best mate.

      dude get mystical ninja starring goemon first its awesome! the sequel is amazing too but one of the toughest n64 games around and its 2d too with some cool multiplayer where you help each other. huge game too!

    I have play this game for some time now, I say more than 10 years and at first can be frustrated, not understanding the mechanic, the monsters, effects, ect. Took me time to know what card do, even into this day, it still does, but the most of it, I know how it works and I enjoy. TBH, I love the game, and I wish there could be a patch to understand some cards that I haven't used or try. Great review.

    Great video, the Ganbare Goemon series might be favorite, it’s definitely at the top. This is absolutely a game that any Goemon fan should check out, it took me an hour or two just playing with no guide to really get it. Once I understood it though, I was hooked. I completed it with every character and even beat the hidden boss. It’s at least worth a try.

    I am huge fan of the series and I hate the fact we get the shaft with not getting some great titles. I played a few games on my ED and picked up some of how the game played. The music is great. Having seen the box art of yours now it has to go in my collection. Great review

      thats the problem with this show...the box etc is half the fun for me i love the stylings and weird choices they make sometimes! wait till you see whats on the way!

    I really recommend this game for Goemon fans, I finished this game a couple of years ago without knowing any Japanese, it's kind of slow, but it's totally worthy.

  • @jakelewia4070
    @jakelewia4070 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've watched an entire walkthrough of the game you're talking about and if you listen closely, some of the music has remixes of some of Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon in its soundtrack. I didn't realize it at first but I thought that was something worth mentioning.

    In so many Goemon games i played, this one didn't gave me so much attention, but gave a good spirit of Japan tho. For this reason it never came out to Europe and US.
    Speaking of Goemon very soon i will review on Arcades since i'm working on it on youtube and goemon will appear on my next ones.

      yeah that sucks :( the ps1 goemon games sucked too

    • @Bloodreign1
      @Bloodreign1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd have to disagree, the first and 3rd PS1 Goemon games are amazing, it's the middle PS1 game that isn't too good. I do own the first one on PS1, with hopes of eventually getting the 3rd one for a fair price, and I played both through emulation first, both are awesome, and play like the SNES/Super Famicom games. I like them better than the open world Goemon game on N64 (seriously, the second N64 Goemon game IMO is much better than the first N64 Goemon game, it plays exactly like I like my Goemon titles to play, 2D). Seriously, have you even played the PS1 games to make such a statement?
      Ryan Airzonk, WD was working on translating the New Age Goemon title, which I don't care for as I prefer the traditional Goemon/Ebisumaru/Sasuke/Yae team.

    I hope this N64 Goemon game gets translated since all the SNES Goemon games recently got an English translation (with a retranslation of the first SNES Goemon game).

    I love the Goemon games. It's just a shame that we don't get all of them released in the west. I must admit I wasn't even aware of this one but it looks like it could be a lot of fun.

    • @n64glennplant
      @n64glennplant  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah i don't even remember this being in the magazines we got here in the west either so it was quite new to me a few years ago!

    Never heard of this , despite loving the Goemon games. Looks great, and even though I enjoy games of this style (really like Boom Street in the Wii for example), as you say, the language barrier is an issue - pity that.
    Keep this great work up Glenn - it's the only way I have of identifying new games for my import N64.

  • @sonicheroes8364

    loving the reviews, quite fair and honest, i cannot say every reviewer i have seen actually have such a claim, they either take complete biased fond memories into it, or they go and dis-regard it and poke at the game until it has its coding bleeding out from its cartridge (Or disk, Or server now...)

    • @n64glennplant
      @n64glennplant  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks stacey! some people think I'm bias as this is solely an n64 channel but if they watch the 2 or 3 videos i tend to upload a week they'll see that i am happy to trash bad games, praise the good ones and the ones which fall in-between generally get pros and cons discussed! I'm a collector so id love every game to be a gem but sadly they cant all be that way! cool avatar by the way! :D

    • @sonicheroes8364
      @sonicheroes8364 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** i completely agree, whilst some games like, sonic R, not that brilliant of a racing game, but its quite open with paths, has some balancing issues between the characters whilst the music is top quality, it is the sort of thing my mom would be listening to,
      and i might have accidentally got a friend of mine to play it in multiplayer with me haha! since then we regard the game as being the known cause of insanity!
      to be honest, im not really a collector, im a retro gamer more than anything, whenever i buy a game from the 90s (mostly n64 or mega-drive, and from some charity shops, which are more like PS and PS2 titles) i usually go for cartridge only for the n64, megadrive i try and get everything, and the PS / PS2 i try and get everything, i have never bought a game without the case (which i think is kind of silly)
      i bet my college friends are loving this, since the google update to youtube, you can only change your name so many times, they changed my name to Stacy, and i cannot change it back for 2 years! lol

    • @n64glennplant
      @n64glennplant  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      haha thats crazy! I'm a complete in box collector so like total OCD when it comes to having the full package, I've slown down on purchases recently a little as prices of n64 are nuts now but focussing more on japanese import for this series as i like making these episodes as a lot of the time its something new for me too

    • @sonicheroes8364
      @sonicheroes8364 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      its a bit of a shame pal region cannot play NTSC or the Japanese imports, it kind of drives me nuts, but i will say this, dispite being someone who goes for just the cart for the n64 games (because i buy to play not to collect, my friend does though) i once bought off ebay a game that costed 80 quid for the PS during high-school,
      everyone went crazy and was like Dude you could have bought a used xbox (ugh... its 360 you nit-wits!) the game was blood omen, and they went and apparently looked it up how "cheap" you can get it, i can say 80 quid, i LOVED it and i outright find it fantastic, i hold no regrets, (Dispite how you can get it for 30 quid) and no i didnt get it brand new,
      most expensive n64 title... Starcraft 64... 70 quid, my friend is completely jealous of that, but then i keep looking on ebay just to see how many are on there, and theres only 2 at most on ebay in pal format and apparently, one of the most rare n64 titles in this region... not gonna brag in the slightest haha haha!

    • @n64glennplant
      @n64glennplant  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah starcraft was a PAL AUS exclusive game so it was pal region but didn't get released in europe only australia...hence the price of it being insane, like a PAL snowboard kids 2 also

    Immensely enjoyed Goemon 5 and 6 (friend had the JP import of Mystical Ninja and I immediately pre-ordered it for the US and is one of my favorite N64 titles to this day). I could not go for this one not only because of the heavy language barrier but also the card-based theme that didn't sit with me -- I was hoping for another Goemon platform. It's worth adding that Konami billed live instrumentals and solos for the jazzy brass intro theme that reprises throughout. Konami always knew how to maximize the underwhelming cartridge sound capabilities (see: Hybrid Heaven!) and it shows with one of their last titles.

    great review as always glenn i do love me the goemon series which mystical ninja staring goemon was my first goemon game i ever played which i rented the game from blockbuster back in 1998 when i was i think 12 years old maybe 13 years old now im 28 years old i first heard about about this game from a goemon fansite called geomon international back in the early 2000s if i recall and the graphics sure looked beautiful for a n64 game ^_^ it almost remind me of nintendo's/square soft's super mario rpg graphical style and the soundtrack does sound awesome ^_^ im going to give this game a shot by playing it on my project 64 emulator which im going to do a trial and error on this game just like i did with the super famicom goemon sequels on the zsnes emulator although this is embearssing to say that i havent beat the super famicom goemon games its not that i dont have the patience to beat them because its in japanese nessecery its just i was busy playing other games im what you call a multitasker i usully have a habbit of playing and beating games all at once rather then play and beat a game one at a time if you know what i mean so whenever i have the time im going to eventully beat the super famicom goemon sequels on my zsnes and give goemon mononoke sugoroku a shot on my project 64 emulator im quite the otaku if i do say so myself so all in all great review glenn keep up the good work ^_^

    The intro will actually play if you wait on the title screen. Also the game looks like it would be easy to play if you know Hiragana, Katakana, and a decent amount of vocabulary, unfortunately I only have 2/3 of that down. I played nearly all the way through the game last year because I was such a big fan of the Goemon series and I really liked the gameplay, I figured out how things worked just by seeing what did what.

    I think there was a reason we never got this. While I rarely bust a games balls for treating into new territory and abandoning its root (I applaud Resident Evil 4-5-6 for doing just that), this gameplay style doesn't really speak to me. I prefer Goemon as a platformer, 2D or 3D.
