Amazing amp! I bought one today, the tones and sound are just so damn good, you won't put your guitar down, This is the first tube amp I own, and it's changing every thing I know about how to play and handle a guitar. Worth every penny!!! Please don't buy an expensive guitar, this is what you need, a great amp with loads of outstanding tones. I can't believe I waited this long to discover and experience what a tube amp is.
I bought mine 2 months ago, and have no regrets too ! Better as a Katana, for the ones who love the Fender tone. Maybe not the best amp for high gain, but great for breaking clean tones !
It does sound great but i saw some reviews say its not all tube n the effects are worthless for my self to get that break up tone at low volumes is more important and the advantage of having different voice settings, please give me your thoughts on this im planning on getting this amp
@josue Kay Could I just run my Line 6 Pod Go in Clean Tone and get nice results? I am looking for a lower priced tube amp and do not care about built-in digital effects in the amp. Thanks!
Man this is one of the best product reviews I've seen- A quick and direct rundown of the amps potential. Thanks a bunch and well done! Oh and I'd add (for all those asking about gigging), you can "gig" with any amp you want.. Just mic it. I've played large venues with shitty little solid-state low-power amps. The worst thing to me is when a dude shows up with a 100w amp for a gig in the corner of a small bar (which is where 95% of us gig 99% of the time), and he's either way too loud, or frustrated bc he can't get any tone out of his $2k amp with the volume on 2% 😝😝 don't be that asshole!
I agree. has nobody heard of a PA? the only time you ever need an amp bigger than this one is if you're playing w/ bass and drums and want to use your amp as a monitor. otherwise mic up your little 15 watt amp and use the cash you save on quality effects.
I’ve had this amp for years and love it. It is not just a practice or recording amp though. It may on paper appear to be a small amp but mine has done hundreds of gigs in pubs and clubs with no problems. At 8 or 9 this baby screams more than you would think. Being a tube front end just be careful to let it warm up and cool down and take care when loading it in the car after playing else you will go through a lot of valves.
This was the 1st tube I bought and I will never get rid of it its absolutely amazing and for the price you honestly can't find a better amp today, great review as always!
It's a shame these were discontinued. This is one of the best small amps Fender has put out. I'm not saying it's a better amp than Fender's classic tube amp models such as the Deluxe Reverb or Princeton, but it's such a versatile practice amp. You can get so many different sounds and cover so much ground with it. Although it's a hybrid amp with a modeling section, it sounds and feels much more authentic than the digital modeling amps. I'm glad these are still around on the used market in good condition. I plan to get one in the next couple of months. I need a good versatile "around the house" amp that I can also use for small jams with friends.
I still have my Super Champ X2 and I love it. I also have a TM Deluxe Reverb and a ‘65 Super Reverb for live work, and I love those amps with my pedalboard for festival shows and other sizable gigs. Where the SCX2 shines is at home practice, or at a small scale gig, when I just want to plug straight in, work my volume control, and not be arsed with setting up a full scale rig with a full pedal board. The weakness in these amps is the DSP card running the digital effects section. I’ve talked to several techs that have had these amps come across their workbench with the digital FX non functional. Because it is such an inexpensive amp, they’re usually not worth the cost of repairing even if you can source the parts-which isn’t often. I can also recommend a speaker upgrade, as that really opens these amps up significantly..
@@15thwardadrian What speaker do you like in the Superchamp? I was planning to leave it stock. Mainly because I have a 1x12 extension cab I can always plug into for a little "more". It's just something I used to use with an old setup and has the original Celestion 70/80 speaker in it. I was actually planning at some point to upgrade it to a V-Type or Greenback celestion in that. I might go for a creamback if I find one at a reasonable price. But who knows, I might want to upgrade that 10 inch at some point. I tend to tinker when I get bored. I already sold off a couple of my bigger amps a while back. Planning to get the X2 for around the house. If I ever do anything that I would need to compete with a drummer I'll be looking for a bigger combo. My two most likely choices for that will be the Fender Supersonic 22 1x12 or the Blackstar Club40 MKII (EL34 variant).
@@Kevlarel84 The Celestion speakers you list above are great options in the SCX2. Others have found that the Ragin’ Cajun’ works well also. With regard to your larger amp choices, both sound good, but you should be aware that a technician willing to service or repair a Blackstar amp can be hard to find. These modern PCB board amps are designed to be essentially disposable. You can usually find a technician that will work on a Supersonic 22 so it can be repaired and serviced. That’s a big plus, though it is still a PCB amp.
@@15thwardadrian Thanks for the advice on the amp choices. I'll keep that info in mind. The Fender Supersonic would be my first choice anyway. Blackstar is still an option for me though. I have two Blackstar dealers pretty close to me. One of them is a store I've done extensive business with in the past. It's where I bought my first Fender guitar and amp back in 2001. They are still a Fender dealer and they are a certified Blackstar dealer as well. They do work on them. While Blackstar has had some problematic amps I don't think the Club 40 MKII combo is on that list. But I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. I've wanted a Supersonic for a long time.
@@Kevlarel84 A bandmate of mine uses an older HT Club 40, and I have to say that it really sounds good. It has plenty of power for most gigs also. He encountered some trouble finding a tech to diagnose an intermittent problem that turned out to be a simple solder joint issue. A lot of the techs here in the east TN/N GA area of the US only really want to work on old school handwired amps. If you have a Blackstar servicing dealer local to you, then I'd say that's not going to be an issue for you. If the Blackstar fits your needs and budget, it could be the right choice for you.
I just want to add to the many other people praising this review. thank you for using the same riff and guitar settings to highlight the differences in the amp's settings. all reviews should do that. thank you for taking the time
Great video. I bought my SCXD back in 2008 after hearing a friend's at a local open mic. I have done most of the non-soldering/voltage meter mods such as the Ragin Cajun speaker upgrade and tube swaps. Great fun, great amp. So naturally when asked recently to recommend an amp in this output range to a budding young player, I nominated the SCX2, in either the combo or stacked configuration. It needs to be said, that with an efficient high quality speaker (and tubes of your choice), this amp is not just for practice. I gig all the time with mine, where it holds its own with the Deluxe Reverbs and un-miced drums in small and medium sized clubs. For anything bigger (and hopefully with a good sound tech on the board), I often just stick an SM57 in front of it and run it through the house system. Love my SCXD.
Regarding "bass flub"....It's only a 10 inch so that's bound to happen when you crank it up and turn up the bass past half-way. I upgraded to a Celestion Gold G10 and it resolved the bass flub, and also added some amazing round, bell-like chime to an already fantastic sounding amp without affecting the character. I see others recommended the Ragin' Cajun....DONT. I went that route to begin with and it destroyed the clarity and chime in a big way. Go Gold or just leave the stock speaker in the cab.
Totally agree with you on the speaker upgrade. I put a Celestion greenback in mine and it sharpened up the sound throughout. I agree that this would not be a good place for a Ragin; Cajun, which is a very good speaker,, but wrong for the Super Champ.
Just to clarify for everyone: this thing sounds like a beast if you're playing with humbuckers and through a bigger speaker cabinet (or 4x12). Although the higher-gain amp models are well done, they are "Fenderized" versions of Mesa or Marshall tones (primarily due to 6V6 tube power section and not EL84s I imagine). It's worth going to the guitar store to try out. First thing you need to do is crank the gain, bass EQ, and high EQ to 10 to really get a feel for the full range of the tones.
I had a Blues Junior, but somehow I never really bonded with it, so I moved on to a Hot Rod Deluxe which I loved but was too loud to play in the house (I'm a bedroom guitarist). My multi-year search for the perfect bedroom-level, non-boutique practice amp eventually led me to this - the Fender Super Champ X2. Just toss out the standard speaker and replace with an Eminence Ragin Cajun and you will not believe how great this little amp sounds. Classic Fender clean with sweet breakup as you crank it up past 4. I hardly ever use the modeling channel, although someday I'll explore it. I can honestly say that my search for a practice amp is over!
I have an XD and an X2. Both have been gigged heavily with no problems. Adding a 2x12 ext speaker boosts Tone, volume and spread. Takes pedals well and is very versatile. Only problem I have with it is it should have come with an internal 12inch speaker, and, as Andrew Bradford pointed out, a mid pot would have been nice. Try one out. (I must say I prefer the XD)
Bob nothagadjee I know this is an old review and comment I’m replying to...but was gonna ask if you think a 12” speaker could be squeezed into the combo as a replacement speaker ?
@@ampcruz2540 I bought the SCXD, great little amp, great price, no messing about with software/updates. Nice clean CH1. Sixteen voices on CH2, nice reverb/delays. It also takes pedals very well. Initially I used the built in amp models on CH2, but now prefer an OCD pedal (V1.4) into CH1.
Agree with so many who commented previously on this review. Wonderful review, and the best I've seen on the Super Champ. Besides being a great at-home practice amp, it seems like it would be great for song writing. And that' "Voicings" dial is the bomb, for sure..
Now that's how I like a demo!!! Well done. Keep playing the same thing at different settings - just like we usually do when we are checking something out.
It’s a great amp. I’ve used mine for gigs ranging from small venues un-miced, to a full sized outdoor staged (line out to the board. I chuckle now when I see guys carting their giant amps around to shows. This little darling is wonderful in the studio (engineers really like its capacity to play at lower volumes without losing punch). Gone through many, many amps over the years. I have two of these (one I had put into a custom cab with a 15” speaker just for kicks). Love these amps.
I tried out several amps today. One of them happen to the X2 combo which i put a deposit on. I also tried a X2 Head on a Ibanez TSA112C Speaker Cabinet Cab and a EVH 5150 III 1 X 12. Tried the Ibanez TSA15H with TSA cab, almost as great as the fender X2 head and has a better vibe/tone! also played a Fender Pro Junior III,i also had a go with a Vox AC4TVH with the matching V112 cab. 1 X2 Combo takes pedals very well!! 2.X2 Head with EVH 5150 III Cab 3 X2 Head with TSA Cab 4TSA head and cab
Iv spent about 4 days checking different combo amp videos ,and prepared for up to fairly big budget for a tasty small amp , keep coming back to this super champ , what s find .
these are so good I agree. I think they are the perfect little recording amplifier. You can get that awesome fender tones at a low volume. The reverb setting is really nice too
@juano isquia unfortunately it can’t, the fender fuse software is only for the X2 version. However the XD version is still a great amplifier so enjoy it and rock on!!
Glad to hear that!!! Just bought one and I would love to drop the mids! Was about to sell it, because it does not sound “Fender scooped” with the 10” speaker. I will try that first 🥺
Got loads of new amps and pedals coming up this week. :) These amps are great for sure makes recording really easy. I was shocked how nice it sounds. I have a deluxe as well and it records as nice that's for sure :)
dont know if you guys gives a damn but if you guys are bored like me atm you can stream all the latest series on InstaFlixxer. Have been binge watching with my gf during the lockdown xD
Here is my 2 cents for anyone thinking of getting one of these. First off I’m a Fender guy. I usually play a tele or strat through pedal board into hot rod deluxe iii. My hang up on the smaller tube amps has been they don’t have enough bottom end to my liking. This little amp does, not as much as the hot rod but enough to sound good. Gonna take it out and test it in live gig to see how it fairs. I suspect that it will do fine. The volume on super champ at 7-8 is comparable to hot rod at just under 3, which is usually where I run and mic it. The best sound setting in my opinion is channel 2, voice 16, treble 4, bass 7, and a little reverb. Should make an excellent pedal platform.
Just bought this one day ago, I was a bit disappointed that I couldn’t get a champion 100 since my parents told me it was too big for me , who’s new to amps and all. But honestly once I got to discover the other cool sounds from fender tweeds to black face, from vox to Marshall , and from clean to drive, I didn’t want to plug out my tele.Yeah the champion 100 has pretty much more choices but this amp is good enough for me to gig with and it’s light enough to carry my case in one hand and this on the other. And great review shayne😉
yeah dude take it from someone whos been playing for 11 plus years the super champ is more amp than that solid state champion 100 could ever dream to be because its a tube amp. not saying the champion 100 is bad but nothing can replace that tube sound.
if volume is a concern. The Champ isn't quiet, but it isn't obnoxious either- it has a speaker out, so you can hook it up to any 8 ohm cab. Plus it has nice built in effects, and takes pedals well. Which is better depends on what you need from the amp. Home use and small gigs- the Champ is a great choice. For bigger gigs, where you can crank it- the HRD is the choice of a lot of players. Hope that helps!
This is a really helpful demo. The close-up video insert is a great idea to actually see what's happening on the amp. I appreciated hearing the clean sounds to start with and not having the whole demo on some heavy metal preset. Also, repeating the same guitar riff while changing amp settings is the way to go. I hope other reviewers will be influenced by this approach. I guess the F/Xs are ok but it seems one can't use two effects at the same time (let's say reverb and tremolo). Of course, there is a way around that with pedals. On the suggestion box side, I wish the demo could have included a brief comparison with the Super Champ's X2 head and SC112 enclosure. Still, you did a great job. The amp is on my Xmas list !
On the X2 is possible to use tremolo with reverb if you connect to the Fuse software, edit some effects slot a save it into the amp. You can even have 4 effects together: delay + reverb + modulation (chorus, flanger, tremolo, I believe...+more) + stomp box (compressor, od, fuzz...). But you can't use 2 effects of the same sort together (like 2 different modulations or 2 stomp boxes)
I love the clean sound. Can someone eleborate on how much headroom this amp has before breaking up. I play mainly clean. Also what is the difference between the X2 and XD. Thank you.
I found one in a pawn shop for $99. I bought it so fast it would make your head spin. I purchased the foot pedal for it and I found out it has a usb port in back, so it can be modified by hooking a PC to it.
I have had a lot of amps, but this one has quickly become my favorite. My 98' Strat loves the #8 (65 Twin Amp) setting...fat, clean and bluesy. I have the combo, but I run it into a Burriss 1X12 cab with a WGS Reaper speaker. Sounds amazing...light years better than with the stock speaker. I dare say it sounds as good as the Twin itself.
Great review. I bought this amp (Head Version) and modified a 2x12 cab for it with a Celestion Greenback and a G12P. Covers the high's and low's perfectly. Plenty loud for a medium volume setting, and with it's line out or my Sennheiser e609 I can cover any size venue. I usually crank amp to about 6 or 7 to push the tubes and use guitar volume to control amount of overdrive. I don't believe anyone would regret buying this amp. It covers every genre of music, and does it well. Price-Unbelievable
@@davidvarela8739 I guess you can use the line out connected to a daw interface with headphones out. I just ordered mine, and I plan to practice at night with that setting.
Ok, this is from awhile ago but I'm in love with this amp!! Hiiped to it now bacause of a Sweetwater Ltd Ed version. I don't know how i missed this back then. In '06, i cruised by a shop and they had an original Super Champ, Rivera designed. I got a killer tone in 5 seconds. Went home and told the Missus. She said Buy it. Went back and it was gone. Owner changed his mind (wisely) and took it home. Had $400 cash and bought an out of box Blues Jr. Sure, great deal but hard to dial in at bedroom volumes. Sadly it was gone 3 years later. Heck, i can't really use the X2 but want one anyways. Not even sure if my CyberTwin works anymore....haven';t played thru it in over 2 years.
Nice variations in tones . I just got mine so I'm still in the experimental stage at this point , it's a freaky lil amp.... add a Tubescreamer to it and look out Cleveland ...
I think it sounds great. Good for recording and it came up sounding good on here with no effects added. I had no trouble getting a usable sound out of it. I've also tried the head and box version and had the same experience with it. Vox is good i have two ;)
oh for sure these aren't loud enough for gigs unless you mic it up or you're doing softer volume shows. These are great recording and practice amps but not as loud as the Blues JR :)
Well now I'm biased. I'd like to think I'll get this tone from this amp, but can't overlook the wonderful dynamic in your playing. You make that Tele sing, mate, just lovely to hear. Thanks for the thoroughness and simplicity of your review/test. Will get a super champ anyway, whether or not I can get a deep Texas-style tone out of it will be up to me, as your demo shows, hehe. Well done, mate.
I had one of these for several years Shane. The only thing I wish I had done, was get the head/speaker box instead. The combo has a 10" speaker and the head/box has a 12". Other than that, it is definitely loud enough to gig in small venues. It will keep up with a drummer!
It works it works it works...the marriage of old and new tech!!! I reckon this took more effort to develop than any other Fender amp. Remember from blues to surf music to jazz and Rock n roll and even ethnic music(in Greece Fender amps with reverb are a must for stringed instruments). Wonderful, 80 years of music history in one portable combo.Cant stop playing it either.BTW its obvious but let it warm up 5/10 mins before pluging in to play.
Sounds great until you get to the low A & E strings - some of the voicings were a bit flubby there. Probably an easy fix with the right EQ settings or a "tone-shaper" pedal like an RC Booster. Looking at one of these on the used market as a bedroom/practice/grab-n-go amp when I can't be arsed lugging a large pedalboard and amp. Loved that Vibro effect! Reminded me a bit of the old Magnatone amps.
Oh Why did Fender come out with the new Champion series? Why couldn't they have just made MORE versions of this? A tube amp with voicings and a direct channel. Maybe a 40 watt 1x12 would have been fantastic!
PIlotrcm thats exactly what i said when i got my super champ xd( the first version a few yrs back when they first came out)...i wrote to fender told then to call it the "Super deluxe xd" I think they already had the mustang series on the drawing board and the deluxe vm....so no reply... but anyways after about a month i replaced the spkr with a 75 wtt eminence legend...the amp also has a line out for recording direct if you want...i love it
PIlotrcm I decided to go over to guitar center and check out the champion 40 and I don't think I've been more disappointed in an amp. And I threw a strat and a PRS custom 22 on it. Was terrible.
They made the 40w amp the same year they released this amp. It was called Fender Deluxe VM, I currently own it but it has been discontinued since 2012 (only available for 2 years).
I have the Vibro Champ XD, which is 5W and has an 8" speaker. (I bought it for $150 on closeout.) I've played small jazz sessions or rock practices with a reasonable drummer with it and it worked though it's very light on bass, as you might suspect. A 10" speaker would help, as would 15W, and the second channel. Unlike my younger days, I'm not really an effects user and only turn on reverb and occasionally delay, but the effect do sound very nice.
Thanks so much Shane, I've been fighting myself on whether to bring the amp back for a bigger Blues JR. but I really like the diversity of sounds on this amp. For practice it's perfect. Really perfect. The sounds you can get are amazing, I'm a fender clean and dirty sound guy, I don't need the Marshall and Vox settings, I may use the software to replace them with one of your patches. Thanks for making those by the way. Love the vids.
I thought I would not use the Vox and Marshall voices, boy how wrong I was. Voice 9 on the SCXD (contemporary Marshall) is excellent with Gain 8, Volume 3 (bedroom levels). Voice 7 and 8 (Vox and Early Marshall) are great at much lower gain, approaching clean. As far as the Fender tones my favourites are CH 1 (clean), CH 2 Voice 1, 2, 3 (Tweed), 10, 11, 12 (Hot Rod), 13, 14 (Hi Gain/Metal), 16 (Acoustic).
@@coppulor6500 Why is that? Most comments I see about the BJ is that it is a great amp, but needs to be cranked up to get driven tones (and of course it does not have the versitility of the SCXD or SCX2).
@@SaxJockey I finally sold.mine woohoo!! I think it sounds horribly boxy. Ice pick highs, flabby lows on even moderate gain. I think the gain is just awful, inarticulate mushy mess. I did not have the tweed version which is better admittedly, but still. Keep in mind I'm a guge fender fan. I own a pro reverb reissue, used to own a 1969 super reverb (***sighs wistfully***). A fender rack mount amp believe it or not, a musicman which was supposedly close to a fender clone even a cybertwin (oops). My.first amp was a solid state sidekick 65 which I still have btw. The super champ is incredible. Lacking in power but that can be addressed with slaving the amp. So I really think Fender is missing the boat but this thing is the best app I own tone wise. I mean my super Reverb was great and my Pro Reverb is great but there one or two trick ponies and of course the game on my Pro Reverb is better than average for a Fender amp but it's still Fender gain.
Excellent review / demo. I keep coming back to it to remind myself to use different settings (it’s the only guitar amp I’ve ever owned. I guess my wife got it right first time!).
No, it's a 10". The combo has a speaker out as well, so you can use it with a separate cab if you like. Swapping in a more efficient speaker, like an Eminence Red Fang, or a Cannabis Rex will get you more volume, too.
The HRD is a great amp but not a good small amp and not good as a "set it and forget it" kind of thing. It is touchy as all get out, too, which is a blessing or curse depending on what you want. That very dynamic response they're famous for makes for a lot of knob twisting to find the sweet spot for your guitar. I've played through one a bunch doing jazz sessions and it's awesome once you get it dialed.
Well, the Hot Rod Deluxe is a HELL of a lot louder, for one thing- and it has that super touchy volume knob Some fenders have. ie it goes from a whisper to a bellow with a tiny twist of the knob. The HRD is all tube, and the SC X2 has a digi preamp on ch2. You can get more different tones from the champ, and, due to the digi stuff, you can do crunchy distorted stuff at bedroom volume. HRD is made for gigging, and it has a very distinctive clean tone. NOT a good bedroom amp ( cont)
Hi, can I gig with this app? I wonder because with the blues junior 15 watts you can, but I understand that this is a mix of tube en digital. Let me know if I am wrong
Thanks for this list. Is it possible to switch between these settings using a footswitch or can you only do it by manually changing the control on the amp?
Ahhhh wow! That is an amazing sound! beautiful, as much as I love high gain stuff, I keep finding myself really loving cleans and gnarly drive you get from fender amps
I bought on of these second hand and threw in a WGS GC10S 75 watt speaker. The result is a VERY loud amp with a bucket of features for less than AU$400. If this was sold with a 12 inch speaker it would be goodbye Blues Junior. Or maybe the "Blues Junior plus" will be that format. It's good alright - get one and mod the speaker.
So I went to the music store 2 days before Christmas for some strings. I left with 3 sets of strings and a Fender Super Champ X2... I am excited to hooking it up to my computer.
HOLY MACRO.. that was beyond fantastic!! SRV amp all-the-way : ) How did they pack all that old pure biting Blackface Fender Tube Tone into such a small Amp.. especially with the on-board effects (maybe they're analog, i gotta read).. man, tone-wise, and to my ears.. this was up there with Bf. Vibrolux, Super Reverb, Vibro King, etc. at a fraction of the cost : ) then again all your videos sound incredible.. some might say it's all in the finger tips : ) Excellent review... Thanks
Great little practice amp, but as pointed out, can be used to gig with the PA outs, recording or best little practice amp for any kind of music, would replace if lost or stolen...
The amp has a 10" speaker, not an 8" speaker like you mentioned at the beginning of the video description. This is corrected at the very end of the description, but just wanted to let you know that it is incorrect at the beginning. Good video though, and great sounding amp, I'm strongly considering getting one (actually instead of my current Hot Rod Deville). Cheers!
Hi! I'm looking for a small tube amp to play at home (I'm on a limited budget and a short leash volume-wise from my wife and kids!). I like playing pop and rock music, no metal. Would you rather go for a Super Champ or a Blackstar HT5R or would it be worth spending extra $$ on a Blues Junior with a pedal... I'm also looking at the second-hand market. Thanks in advance for your help!
You should really consider test driving one of these Fender S.C. X2 amps. There really is no need for an OD pedal with this amp as it gets VERY NICE signal break up all by itself. Cannot say enough good about this amp as an owner of one for the past year and half. I use mine for weekly gigs in a small bar setting and it kicks ass......
I'm really glad I didn't fall for all those effects and " beautiful " clean Fender sound from modelling amp. So, yeah, I don't like compromises on quality, which doesn't always mean expensiveness. I was patient enough, so instead of squier classis vibe strat and x2, I went for YAMAHA PACIFICA 112V and VOX AC10 C1. " One trick pony " is usually referred for lacking of versatility, but very often means quality of its own. Good demo as always. Cheers mate.
Amazing amp! I bought one today, the tones and sound are just so damn good, you won't put your guitar down,
This is the first tube amp I own, and it's changing every thing I know about how to play and handle a guitar.
I just ordered one for Christmas, will be my fist tube amp too. I can’t wait !
@josue Kay Could I just run my Line 6 Pod Go in Clean Tone and get nice results? I am looking for a lower priced tube amp and do not care about built-in digital effects in the amp.
Thanks!
Still love it? What is the big diference btween this and a non valve amp for you?
Man this is one of the best product reviews I've seen- A quick and direct rundown of the amps potential. Thanks a bunch and well done!
Oh and I'd add (for all those asking about gigging), you can "gig" with any amp you want.. Just mic it. I've played large venues with shitty little solid-state low-power amps. The worst thing to me is when a dude shows up with a 100w amp for a gig in the corner of a small bar (which is where 95% of us gig 99% of the time), and he's either way too loud, or frustrated bc he can't get any tone out of his $2k amp with the volume on 2% 😝😝 don't be that asshole!
doesn't need a mic...use the line out and avoid the hassle
I agree. has nobody heard of a PA? the only time you ever need an amp bigger than this one is if you're playing w/ bass and drums and want to use your amp as a monitor. otherwise mic up your little 15 watt amp and use the cash you save on quality effects.
would you recomend this as a combo or stack?
OR HE HAS A HOT ROD DELUXE ON 2....QUIT BEING A DOUCHE!
A person is not an asshole due to choosing any sort of amp. People have freedom to choose. An asshole is someone who derides others for that freedom.
Warm up and cool downs are myths
This was the 1st tube I bought and I will never get rid of it its absolutely amazing and for the price you honestly can't find a better amp today, great review as always!
Great review I like that you used the same riff to display the amps and then stayed with a riff to show depth of effects!
I bought this yesterday...still cannot sleep:)
I'M STILL UP!
That bad?

The bass is not flubby as it sounds in the Video
I just want to add to the many other people praising this review. thank you for using the same riff and guitar settings to highlight the differences in the amp's settings. all reviews should do that. thank you for taking the time
Definitely a blues, rock n' roll machine.
Ron Gordon are you the guy I spoke with at guitar center in clearwater fl. today 11 14 17?
Was he?!
just bought it yesterday at local guitar store.
I have listen to several amps in this price tag, and this one is unbeatable. clear and crisp sound.
Go Gold or just leave the stock speaker in the cab.
so appreciate you taking the time to share. great advice!!! thank you! : )
I went with a Webber dt-10. Ymmv
Really dude ? I have a vip3 100 watt amp ,,,, do you think that I can connect my scxd line out into that ,,,pls i need advice on this thanks
10? haha. ive got one that goes to 11
I had a Blues Junior, but somehow I never really bonded with it, so I moved on to a Hot Rod Deluxe which I loved but was too loud to play in the house (I'm a bedroom guitarist).
Yes
Bob nothagadjee I know this is an old review and comment I’m replying to...but was gonna ask if you think a 12” speaker could be squeezed into the combo as a replacement speaker ?
Yes me too and I'm just taking yours and everyone else's advice saying xd sounds a bit better
You can edit the mids in fender fuse
Love these amps.
how did it sound through a 15"? very curious to know!
I own one of these, it is a little monster of an amp. Oh yeah, it has that crystal Fender clean tone too!
I like how you played the same, or similar, licks on the different voices so we could hear a direct even comparison
2.X2 Head with EVH 5150 III Cab
3 X2 Head with TSA Cab
4TSA head and cab
#13 is a killer “Voice” selection! I’m kind of blown away by this amp.
The reverb setting is really nice too
How did I ever live without one of these?
What a SUPER AMP! ..and a super value!
and a value for a valve amp
For my money this amp really comes alive when you use the fuse software. Mids are set really high from the factory.
I just bought one today, I haven’t unboxed it yet looking forward to the morning 🎸
dont know if you guys gives a damn but if you guys are bored like me atm you can stream all the latest series on InstaFlixxer. Have been binge watching with my gf during the lockdown xD
@Shepard Warren definitely, I have been watching on Instaflixxer for years myself =)
This is a fantastic amp... highly recommended. Also, this is one of the best demos
The vibrotone and delay effects actually sounds great. Cool amp!
Wow, love the classic tones this amp gives off especially with that Tele'. Great reviews, well showcased.
Another thing is the super champ is tube and the champion 100 is solid state. Most people (including me) like tube amps better
yeah dude take it from someone whos been playing for 11 plus years the super champ is more amp than that solid state champion 100 could ever dream to be because its a tube amp. not saying the champion 100 is bad but nothing can replace that tube sound.
I just bought one and love it! Nice to have a tube amp and tone in a package that doesn’t weigh 200 pounds!
if volume is a concern.
I do respect Shane over other reviewers as he is honest and points out the negatives as well as the positives .
I love the clean sound. Can someone eleborate on how much headroom this amp has before breaking up. I play mainly clean. Also what is the difference between the X2 and XD. Thank you.
This is a great little amplifier even all of these years later! 😀✅ Buy it on Sweetwater - imp.i114863.net/SuperChampX2
How would you compare this to the boss katana line of amps?
Shane, do you own a Superchamp? I do. And I agree, it's a fun, versatile amp.
This sounds great for someone playing Stevie Ray Vaughan stuff
I have one of these, for a 15 w amp, this is fucking loud, does break up passed 4-5, but stays clean, real cool stuff
I found one in a pawn shop for $99. I bought it so fast it would make your head spin. I purchased the foot pedal for it and I found out it has a usb port in back, so it can be modified by hooking a PC to it.
James Krys Can u help me out as to how i modify it on a computer. Do i need to download a program or something? What
fender fuse software. free from fender as far as I know.
This amp is a great value. Its sounds really good. I use it all the time at home.
Doug Urch could you practice at night? any headphones out or attenuator? thank you
David Barrel no headphone out. But easily quiet enough for bedroom playing.
Is a tube amp right?
Ado yes
@@davidvarela8739 I guess you can use the line out connected to a daw interface with headphones out. I just ordered mine, and I plan to practice at night with that setting.
perfect demo! played same thing each time early on so could actually pay attention to amp.
Hahahahahahah !!!!!
Just started researching this amp - really like this hybrid amp.
It sounds like the speaker is rumbling quite a bit when it's in the gain mode.
I think it sounds great. Good for recording and it came up sounding good on here with no effects added. I had no trouble getting a usable sound out of it. I've also tried the head and box version and had the same experience with it. Vox is good i have two ;)
2:28 start the voices tests
oh for sure these aren't loud enough for gigs unless you mic it up or you're doing softer volume shows. These are great recording and practice amps but not as loud as the Blues JR :)
The blues jr is loud but they're both 15w. Why is this one not loud as the blues jr?
Strange, I’ve used both this and the blues jr and found this to be louder
That is possibly the best product review I've seen on YT, thanks so much! Love the amp as well!!!
Got it in baby blue last year.... LOVE IT!
Baby blue!? HOW?
Gtcracker some FSR model on eBay... very cool.
+Ash Wiggins awesome
Thanks for the Demo of the little Fender amp .
I think it depends on what you're using it for, champ x2 is no where near as loud as the hot rod
Thanks :) The head and box version is killer :)
Best review on TH-cam. Hands down.
Just bought this amp and really appreciated the demo
What a great deal this little amp is. I think I'd be living on voices 12-16. Great demo!
Beautiful playing, great demo. Great job!
Wonderful, 80 years of music history in one portable combo.Cant stop playing it either.BTW its obvious but let it warm up 5/10 mins before pluging in to play.
small but mighty...great tones...
Best little amp ever ..
Completely agree, even a 30w version. I just sold my Vibro champ and think I'm getting this to replace it.
PIlotrcm thats exactly what i said when i got my super champ xd( the first version a few yrs back when they first came out)...i wrote to fender told then to call it the "Super deluxe xd" I think they already had the mustang series on the drawing board and the deluxe vm....so no reply... but anyways after about a month i replaced the spkr with a 75 wtt eminence legend...the amp also has a line out for recording direct if you want...i love it
They do they have the head mixed with a 112 for a cab so just buy a Marshall 412 and upgrade the speakers
The line-out feature is great for larger venues. No mic needed to send your signal to the PA.
I currently own a Line 6 Spider IV 120, should I consider selling it and buying this instead?
I would if I were u
I have the Vibro Champ XD, which is 5W and has an 8" speaker. (I bought it for $150 on closeout.) I've played small jazz sessions or rock practices with a reasonable drummer with it and it worked though it's very light on bass, as you might suspect. A 10" speaker would help, as would 15W, and the second channel. Unlike my younger days, I'm not really an effects user and only turn on reverb and occasionally delay, but the effect do sound very nice.
this lefty is right on .thanks for the demo.
This one or vox ac10 or engl gigmaster 15? I need a good clean and lightweight combo
BJ blows in comparison. I have both. been trying to sell my BJ (you know what I mean) lol
@@SaxJockey And thank you so much for including some settings. I can't wait to try them out! Thanks again
Pretty sure you clicked past 16 back to 1 there..?
Fabulous little amp (I just bought one)...
Good over all review of what the amp can do....... based on this review I will probably buy this amp, looks like a winner .
Best demo of this amp I think.
Tempted to get one as a step up from my Champ 600 for a bedroom/rehearsal amp.
Hi, can I gig with this app? I wonder because with the blues junior 15 watts you can, but I understand that this is a mix of tube en digital. Let me know if I am wrong

Great Video. Your playing goes well with the amp...

Vibrolux, Super Reverb, Vibro King, etc. at a fraction of the cost : ) then again all your videos sound incredible.. some might say it's all in the finger tips : ) Excellent review... Thanks
excellent review shane! picking up one of these tomorrow woo hoo
Thanks for the demo. I'm trying to decide if I should get this or the Fender Bassbreaker 15.
Awwww dude you should have gotten the X2 AND A MIM STRAT !!!!!! THE X2 CLEARLY BEATS THE VOX ANY DAY OF THE YEAR !!!!!
I used to own one and i really loved this amp.
I can hear major flubbing out on the low strings, a 12 inch speaker would help with this
Man this guy sure does love his double hammer-ons to end each lick. I swear I hear it in every one of his videos.
Nice ain't it? Kinda makes it all stylish
