Thnx a lot. It was my study project as well. I spent a lot of time making this basic pattern with my hands / feet etc. so it was cool to see it work on the 707. Most definitely not the last time I programmed this (kind of) pattern 😄
@@tricks-and-tips Lovely! I'm turning in for the night now, but I'm going to be doing some 707 work tomorrow implementing something like this for sure.
This is by far the best "4 against 3" polyrythm video in context of drums/synths I saw on youtube. Very useful! Subbed! Looking forward to my 707 to be delivered tomorrow.
I love the mc707 so much , it’s a groove box , a chain-able effects sequencer , you can run each effect into another for a total of 15 at the same time and sequence different effect chain as clips. Even if you just use it as an 8 track drum machine it’s crazy. I wish you could do polyrhythms within a drum kit , but per track is fine , you can always resemble the bits you like if you need the other tracks. The only negative for me is the screen.
If you want to learn how to do this so it fits in step length 16 (or any other length) we have an explainer here: th-cam.com/video/x6xBKThrQF8/w-d-xo.html
@@tricks-and-tips thanks for the video. Suppose you had a 9 note weird scale And on one track you wanted that in 6/8. 6 is more than 9 so instead you make in 12/8 and you fit 9 notes in there by having some longer or having rests, whatever. So the scale can be accommodated in 12 steps and at there same time there could be a downbeat every 6 Then with that same 9 note scale you want it on a second track as a polyrhythm so this second track in 11/8 and you make the 9 note scale have rests or some notes long and 11 has it covered. I'm not sure if technically the polyrhythm is 6:11 or 12:11but you get the idea. And this can't be a polymeter, I would want it to be a true polyrhythm so like you did in the video both are the same duration but at different tempos for that 1 to meet every time and not shift So how hard is this type of thing on the MC-707 ? That's they type of thing I would want to do. I also see Roland has the simple version of this device the MC 101, less expensive. I wonder if that could do the same. Is this more complex polyrhythm with ostinato or scales fairly easy to do or is it a big pain to program? Also take a look at Andrew Huang's video on MOOG's Subharmonicon Polyrhythm sequencer It's interesting but way out of my price range.
@@sat1241 wow, I’m 100% sure I don’t understand your question. I never tried this myself (and since I don’t understand it, I don’t know how 😂) I think the 101 has similar options with regards to the time durations and divisions, but I never owned one myself. The subharmonicon was high on my list, but it is useless in a normal setup like I have. It’s really a super limited weird experimental synth that works best on its own ecosystem and I had to let go of wanting it because it does not fit into my workflow.
@@tricks-and-tips thanks for the reply. I was looking for a sequencer that can play any weirds scale or just any random sequence of notes in any odd time signature and for this to be easy and convenient. A bonus would to be able to do it on two tracks as a polyrhythm and for it to be relatively easy
@@sat1241 I'm not sure if the 707/101 are the best tools for this. I never use very odd scales myself. I think it can get you quite far, since it has a lot of options, but I never use those deeply. But maybe a dedicated sequencer will give you more options. Like the Oxi One or something. (though that does not make any sound, since it is 'just' a sequencer).
@@tricks-and-tips Thank you. I've been asking around everywhere but... Any idea if I could use the kaoss pad on my electribe to sequence drum patterns on my 707? I love the rhythms I can lay out quickly on my electribe 2.
@@mattspazmatic If you can record the midi notes the electribe is sending out (in a DAW for example), you can see what notes it transmits. That way we can check if that corresponds to what the 707 listens to for drum triggering.
This is really cool. I'd been learning about polyrhythms only earlier today, so this was very timely. 👍

Yeah man, I think it is 95% perfect!
Cool trick for any machine!
@@DJCJ999 thanks! Yeah, most sequencers will be able to do this
