    Hokitika Gorge is very near the Cropp River, a little further in the back. It's where NZ highest rainfall is (over 19m in 1 yr record) so wet days to be expected. Keep it up guys, love you videos. When you get to Okarito take the kiwitour there, it's 10/10. Also the blue whale in christchurch museum washed up there and white herons breed there.

      Hey mate, yep pity about the rain def expected it at some point. would love to head back to that area in the summer sun, such an awesome spot and do many more places to adventure around there... Videos are a but behind mate long gone from Okarito that's the next video though, we're currently in Haast. Saw a few white herons and did some exploring in the area, man it feels a long way from anywhere out there aye, Incredible place. Cheers for watching

    A real test of your caravanning life, with all the rain, but the West Coast does have a pretty high rainfall. We went to the Hokitika Gorge walk in Oct 2020 and the water was just like you saw it after a lot of rain. We went again in March this year and it was beautiful. Pity you didn't do the Tree Top Walk, it's pretty cool, but expensive for a family I imagine. Did you find any gold while doing the Ross Walk? Looking forward to your next video. Hopefully the weather has improved for you. 😄😄

      Yea mate, the North Island was just as bad late last year,,, Rain, wind, grey skies, doesn't make for pleasant exploring, if it's not broken up with some nice days, but Generally the weather isn't so bad aye... We haven't done to many tourist activities, they do cost a lot, plus we have done things like this in the past before we hit the road... Rotorua has it's own tree walk which we have done a couple of times.

      Absolutley, the rain can't stop us lol... Although when we know we are in for rain, we do make the most of a big adventure and playing outside so we are happy for a quiet inside day if required... Burn the candle out while it's sunny, and sleep and chill with the rain.

    A pretty interesting week, some awesome rides Sophie. One of the wettest parts of the country unfortunately living up to it's reputation. Glad you still managed to get out and explore at bit.
    We had 3 solid wet days our last trip up the coast.

      @leopardsgowild  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We've had a great run on the west coast really mate, we expected a lot more rain and wet weather days... which we did get more of as you'll see in the next video, but I've heard of people have 2 good days and 12 days of rain, so I'm happy with what we got. Soph loved the riding, shes got her eyes set on some more trails to do in Otago, coming.

      @leopardsgowild  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea I think the weather down here still wins, just made it back to Otago, hoping for sunnier days... I don't know why the power was off, I can understand power points, but not lights.. How are things with you mate?

  • @acerone10
    @acerone10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video. I know it's been an unusual week with the weather etc but it's good to follow your journey through the ups and downs and your honesty about how it actually is living this lifestyle is appreciated. What a lovely couple, Kevin & Chris are, giving you a place to stay and sending you off with treats!
    Well done to Soph for biking as far as she did in the rain and despite having to bike further than she thought, she still had a smile 🙂

    • @leopardsgowild
      @leopardsgowild  ปีที่แล้ว

      yea this was def our worst week of weather, but I'm not into the glitz and glamour of travel, keep it real, I reckon the struggle and garbage days are just as interesting to watch and see what people get up to. So many great people out there offering support towards us, one of the best things about sharing our travel is all the love that comes back. Soph's an absolute beast at getting stuff done, She's so determined.

    Brrr, I feel chilly watching this! Good on Soph getting out on the bike in all weather. That doc camp looked way better than the nzmca place. The water was certainly bluer when we visited but there were a lot more people too! What do you do with 5 sets of wet shoes after your hikes?

    • @leopardsgowild
      @leopardsgowild  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      oh mate, wet gear is such a pain, so we got some good lite weight running shoes for everyone, so they literally just go back in the shoe cupboard, but they do dry fast, we'll often put them infront of the diesel heater to dry, we've got loads of hooks in the shower for wet clothing to hang... Soph is awesome, So amazing how she gets out there and gets it done.

    Yes it can certainly rain on the West Coast. We had two weeks over there in February 2023 with only minimal rain. Stayed at Lake Mahinapua for 3 nights using it as a base. I’m guessing you didn’t do the tree top walk just south of Mahinapua, there’s free comping there.

    • @leopardsgowild
      @leopardsgowild  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Na we didn't do the tree walk, there is a pretty epic tree walk in rotorua where we are from that we have done a few times, thought we'd save our money. will try and get back to Mahinapua and lake Kaniere though, beautiful spot.

    Rain sucks but so does wind, we just spent a week away and wind dominated, and we couldn't really do what we wanted, but this is life. I would imagine it's not until you get to Lake Hawea that the weather will settle.

      @leopardsgowild  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yea mate, I always say Id rather be dodging activities between rain showers than the constant wind, that sucks you guys were in those super gales... Yip next week we'll be back into Otago, looking forward to it... This was def the worst of the weather we have had, had a cracker day at Jackson bay yesterday, beautiful but also buggy, bloody sandflies.
