Flatfish Fishing on the South Coast

- Plaice fishing on the south coast, in the spring, can be out of this world! My last session at this venue produced over 50 plaice between me and my mate. I headed here again a few days later, with a decent northerly wind blowing the sea flat calm. The water was crystal clear. Almost perfect plaice fishing conditions, except it was a little bit cloudy. I still had high hopes for the session.
Armed with fresh king rag -- lovely small worms, perfect for the plaice -- and black lug I got my baits out at distance. With the tide ripping at times, the plaice were on the feed again. I also took with my my lovely Banzai Multi Tip rod to do some scratching for some early summer species. As well as the plaice, a flounder graced the beach.
For this session @TheShoreHunter joined me, and you can see his video from the day over on his channel. This was a two-day fishing stint, with this video covering the first day. Day two will be posted to the channel too, so keep an eye out for it. I love chasing flatties: sea fishing in the UK at its best!

Thanks! I’ve not used that rod myself but have used plenty of other Tronixpro rods. All been good and I hope you like your new rod.

Love watching your videos, lovely atmosphere and ethos to them. After watching your baiting up methods with worms, I believe I was doing mine quite to opposite to you, especially the nipping of the heads and tails.
I did go out about a week or so ago, tried the (new baiting up) method, caught five decent size flatfish one of them was a plaice. This was on a beach where I have never fished before !
Delighted I was and now concentrating on making up some new rigs to try again. I have explored some new beaches so as the year passes I will fish them.
I live in the far north east of Scotland so my fishing grounds are quite a bit different than yours.

Wow - what awesome feedback. Thank you old bones! Super pleased to hear baiting up like this brought you some fish. I learned this method from a lovely guy on the England mens shore team. When I trained to be on the England ladies team we learnt a lot about the importance of every detail of our rigs and so forth. It changed the way I fish a lot, for the better. I think as anglers there is always more we can learn and always opportunity to help and learn from each other. When I make my videos I do try to keep an eye on explaining at least some of what I am doing and why. Of course it doesn’t mean I am right and there are probably better ways sometimes. I focus on what has worked for me. Anyway, thanks again for watching and commenting.

Go for it! It’s quite a quiet beach compared to others as far as other beach users go. Nothing like as hectic as Brighton and hove beaches where it can be hard to fish on a sunny warm day! Thanks for watching.

Question , what size limits are there for flat ties to keep for the table
Just started fishing again and would have been tempted to keep a couple of the plaice you caught early in the video
In my area for plaice it’s 27cm. But personally I think I that’s way too small. I don’t keep any under 32cm unless they won’t go back. Even at 32cm I would want it to be plump. I am also looking forward to Norway!!!

@@davidsteel9735 I have yes. But I’ve never done as well there, mostly I seem to get smaller fish. Sometimes a bit of tide is just what you need. 😃.
Flattie queen has done it again love to see them plaice gem but some really nice 2lbers or over nice for the table I no you like to eat them sweet meat 😂 I'm still looking forward to seeing them sole what an awesome fish well done gem I would to be down on the beach sharing some flatties with , anyway get some much needed sleep girlie nice and fresh for the morning 👍

Good stuff gem. Its a pleasure to watch your vids! Im 70 years old,been fishing all my life but i still learn from you,proof of old dog ,tricks etc 😊. How far are casting ?
Thanks 👍 for watching and your comment Philip. For the plaice I mostly chuck it as far as I can. Over the field my pb is just over 170m (186 yards). Mostly though I’m in the 150m range there. So take a chunk off that for adding bait and a rig. For flounders I tend to plop it close, in dirty water nearer the edge if possible.

Lug £4 a wrap. Rag I forget exactly maybe £20 or so per 1lb.
Why do your reels sound noisy.
One has grit in the handle. One has dry running ceramics. Also they are near the mircrophone so the sound comes across quite loud.

your reels need sorting to much play in end knobs and a clean out of the bearings
Thanks for the tips. The end nobs are set pretty well. One of my 7hts I serviced recently whereas the noisier one has dry running ceramics in it. To be fair, that one could use a bit of tlc lol.
@@ClickBaitGem ceramics are loud all right on casting field no need in fishing reels s/s are ok no rust
I just couldn’t get them running fast enough for my liking with the original bearings in there so I swapped them.
