A wise man once said: Don't buy stuff to have stuff. Buy stuff to support the things you love. So thank you for the opportunity to do so, and I look forward to the next video!
I'm picturing some insane scenario where mono U has used up their Fading Hopes, Slips, Marches, and Otawaras against a black/white deck who managed to resolve a single Evolved Sleeper and a Cloudsteel Kirin. U continually ramps and swings with their Djinn as the black/white player slowly but surely spends each turn activating the evolved sleeper's ability (using pain lands for added effect). I would pay a small amount of money to watch that game.
For people who hate playing against mono-blue tempo-put graveyard hate into your deck. Jund especially gets to trample this deck with Riveteers Charm. Tolarian Terror and Haughty Jin both rely on spells in the graveyard, meaning any way to exile their graveyard slows the deck to a crawl letting you grind them out. For mono-white midrange, a copy of lion sash can be slipped out early, is rarely expected, and eats away at the graveyard while becoming a big threat or blocker.
There are several ways to battle against these decks, however they mostly play in best of 1 where you cannot really make your deck against a couple of unpleasant decks.
Hope to see you use Julian Wellmans izzet version of this deck. His deck looked strongest in standard, if only his explorer deck got some wins, I believe he could've won the whole thing
19:56 They released a full series of sleeves featuring the logos of the 5 families back when SNC came out. There are codes to get them all. I believe that one is CrimeIsAnArtForm.
I run this same deck, but without spell pierce, slip out(replaced with a full set of alchemists retrieval) and only 2 terrors. I find that the risk of drawing 3-4 terrors early (them then becoming dead cards in hand) is way too high a price to pay. I'd rather play full sets of make disappear and negate then. Also don't mind replacing essence scatter with a full set of syncopate.
CGB those sleeves are part of a promo code for Streets of New Capenna. A good side video idea to help viewers out could be advertisement for all the codes as there are plenty of codes that are still redeemable and give card packs, sleeves, etc. Not a lot of people know about the codes and they don't seem to be advertised too well to my knowledge.
I tried both this version and your first one. In BO1 your version works better but I’d say the best thing would be a mix. Your original version would run only 1 terror. I’d make it at least 2 or 3, because after all without creatures we don’t do much and relying on 5 only is kind of dangerous. Eventually the opponent might just scoop out of frustration for having everything countered, but if they’re patient enough and we don’t get to have board presence soon, we might eventually lose bad. Also. Your version used to run 2x march of swirling mists. It’s a game winner many times. Especially when you face aggro decks.
The thing I like the most about my version and CGB one is the March. I honestly think it's strictly better than slip out the back, most of the times, and the ceiling is so much higher. You can literally freeze a whole board and gives you other outlets to use the card advantage as a resource
I have been running that original CGB build since it came out, and have modified it myself over time. I had upped the Terrors to 3 and added some scatters at the expense of syncopate too, mainly due to the amount of aggro builds i'd been coming up against. I still run March over Slip for the reasons you mention. I feel like Slip is much better with Delver then with Djinn/Terror due to how it massively accelerates the clock and takes it out of removal range. Slip not only dodges the first removal on a delver, but it also takes it out of shock ranges, and stop its getting cut down. It also is a 33% increase in damage. With Djinn, your mostly only swinging 2 or 3 times anyway, and slip is pretty much never going to make you win a turn faster, but March will win you games you would have lost otherwise (Either by gaining you a turn quicker by removing a chump blocker, letting you live to the lethal turn by removing thier attacking board or just flat up breaking through a stalemate when they have flyers or spiders.)
@@GamerFlair Sounds like we came to the exact same conclusions haha. Slip is great with delver but I hate that card with a passion. The deck already feels swingy enough without a card that fizzles every freaking turn (unles it's against you ofc lol) and I subscribe to the idea that focusing on protecting the actual bombs is a much more consistent plan. It's been a while since I've played with the djinn bubble, but next time I'm on it, I'll try to lean even more on the essence scatter. Syncopate is great, but there are way too many times when it doesn't fit well with the make disappear and with the game state. Games go grindy wayy too often to have all those mana related counters
Hi, CGB. Hou Are you? Nice video. Thanks for that! I love mono blue tempo and played seasons last year with your original list. Here's one thought: Why use Essence Scatter if you can use Essence Capture? The same counterspell with a ocasional +1/+1 counter on your creature sounds cool, right?
I've been running this list with Syncopates and Essence Capture - the Syncopates are a good idea, the essence capture not so much. The +1/+1 counter is less meaningful than the 1 mana discount that djinn gives you off Scatter
scatter becomes one-mana with djinn out, capture doesn't. plus you're really only running a handful of creatures, so most of the time you won't put a counter on anything
If you play Delver of Secrets instead of Tolarian Terror, in that case maybe is preferable Essence Capture, after all, reduction of Haughty Djinn is very later
Yesterday I play against 3 Blue Tempo deck BO1 against my Orzhav discard deck I came up on top all victory. Early game I just kept dropping 2 mana creatures and sorcery spells to pick their hand apart it much more annoying then counters spell.
Why does he play essence scatter instead of essence capture in mono blue? Isn't the latter strictly better with no downside? Asking just out of curiosity
If you play Delver of Secrets instead of Tolarian Terror, in that case maybe is preferable Essence Capture, after all, reduction of Haughty Djinn is very later.
This year, when set rotation 1st came out, I thought the way to play mono blue was to go extra heavy on artifacts cards because the only mono blue planeswalker = Tezzeret So I spent all my rares and mythic craft cards building a deck that's essentially an artifact deck, but has blue cards like counters, phasing, and bounces It revolved around tezzeret and karn, karns sylex, and the usual blue mechanics Then I discovered the mono blue tempo meta and I didn't have enough resources to craft it 🤦🏼🤦🏼🤦🏼🤦🏼
Well, you really need the full set of Djinns because it's more or less the best card in the deck. So I would say four rares are nonnegotiable, but anything else is on the table for replacement if you want to play alternative options.
My 2nd impression is that this deck has already been flagged and draws are manipulated. getting land flooded every time. I'm going to emphasis thats its every time. Like three land thirst draws.
24:24 When CGB said "Which is weird" My computer crashed and turned off. I heard something like this "Which is weii rrrr d d d." Idk why that glitch in the matrix happened.
Essence Capture not getting to benefit from Djinn's cost reduction is actually a pretty big drawback when compared to the slight benefit of an additional +1/+1 counter. If you're tight on mana, the cost reduction can be game changing, whereas your creatures are generally big enough that an extra point of power doesn't meaningfully increase your clock.
If you play Delver of Secrets instead of Tolarian Terror, in that case maybe is preferable Essence Capture, after all, reduction of Haughty Djinn is very later.
Djinn is really a reason to go Blue, be that Mono or coupled with any other color, be it Red for some burn, black for double control or White for the same reason. Green perhaps not the best add but why not try. Mono seems to be indeed the best way to go but I can appreciate a Dimir build for some kill spells or white that do fend quite well with removal this Standard
