I can't wait for your 100k subs video!! ❤ Congratulation!!
@@andyony2 thank you! :D we'll be working on it this week. I hope it will deliver 😅 anything specific you would like to see in it? :)
@@CardmarketMagic I am very sure, you will nail it! And pls, no pressure :)
Would love to see like a recap of the past 2-3 years, when the channel finally started to go through the roof thanks to you ;)
Otherwise: You are far more creative than me, when it comes to great video ideas :D
Worst support ever, you pay money for support and get no help in return
No way! You got Reid on?! These "history of" with archetype experts are some my favourite content. And Reid is the communities darling ofc, everyone loves him!
Reid is one of the best example rolemodels of a great magic tournament player. He is very respectful to his opponents, always calm and collected and has just a ton of charm to go with his super-tight magic play.
I played him in a 3v3 team grand prix, though I wasn't matchup up with him directly. He was extremely friendly and approachable and ofcourse beat the hell out of my teammate that had to face him in his 1v1 games. (with magic cards, not fisticuffs)
My guess is he logged into his computer to make a video about Jund and immediately received an email from Reid who's Tarmogoyf senses had begun to tingle.
his basically the only magic player who hasnt cheated his way to the top.
this video is everything I want from a Magic retrospective. well done!
I'm truly overjoyed that you enjoyed it :)
Cardmarket magic is on a mad streak of banger videos recently! These history vids, the standard tournament, and the Remy collab vids have been awesome. Keep it up you guys!
This
To be honest, even as a new subscriber, there is also a small backlog of very nice videos to watch as well. For sure these deck archetype videos are among the best, as is the best deck of all time tournament series. They all celebrate Magic, not just as a fun cardgame, but also as a professional sport with a history that is worth diving into.
@@pinobluevogel6458The bread and butter is their VS series (often featuring pros like Mengu and Huschenbeth). Definitely watch them back
i love when carl just talks about magic, legit its just entertaining. His enthusiasm makes it easy to pay attention
Seeing duke smile while he’s explaining his achievements is so heart warming tbh what a legend
There is a reason he's in the Hall of Fame :) that man is a treasure
Over the last year or so, this channel has exploded in quality and amount of content it's incredible.
That's very kind of you to say :) it's been a conscious decision to publish less videos but to put much more effort into every individual video
Smart decision. You guys have created some real quality here.
This ain't no simple video, it's basically a documentary on the history of Jund. Terrific content, best Magic channel on youtube by far.
That is so kind of you to say :D thank you!
Yes thats literally what the video is...
Love love love it!
Hence the title!
Perfection.
These deep dives into the history of deck archetypes are A+++ content! Along with the clash of World Champion deck series, this channel is posting bangers non-stop. Well worth the effort. Congratulations.
Thank you :D that's so kind of you to say. I hope you also enjoy the future stuff we are working on!
Cardmarket is honestly making some of the best magic content. There is always a good mix of humor and depth in all the videos!
Thank you! That is very kind of you to say :)
So good to see another of these videos! They're some of the best MTG content on youtube. The work put in definitely shows.
Cardmarket with yet another banger video. Pure quality!
As someone who has only started to get into limited formats after playing commander for about a year, this was an incredible video and the intro and discussion with Reid is really helping to jumpstart my interest in playing a format like Standard, Modern, Pioneer, or something similar. Thank you so much for all your hard work, and for the excellent content!!!
Watch Reid play Jund and you'll learn so much about it. He really is the master of the archetype
Whenever Reid Duke is smiling all is right in the world. His smile needs to be protected at all costs
I only started playing Magic recently, but your storytelling gave me the hit of nostalgia anyways. Chills.
That's such high praise! :D thank you
As a die-hard Jund player, this was a wonderful video to watch!
JUND 'EM OUT, AND HAVE FUN DOING IT! 🤘
As a Yu-Gi-Oh player who has recently gotten into Magic, this was super interesting and the video quality is insane!
Holy smokes, this video is amazing! Interesting note: back in a days we never called The Rock deck by this name in our local community. This deck was always named by the name of it's creator - Malka. New players always asked why this deck has such a weird name!
Hearing Carl narrate all of this is so surprisingly soothing. I was hooked on to the screen from the first word. I remembered playing jund, winning 2 tournaments and had to sell it off, as I was in a rough place back then. Such a fun time, thank you Carl!
Reid said it best. It’s not a bad thing to have a green based creature deck as the best deck. Jund never felt unconquerable and it promotes healthy play patterns. There’s always gonna be a best deck, at least Jund plays magic as Garfield intended 🖤💚❤️
This series has become one of my favorites in all of magic youtube. Great conntent and awesome guests.
I would love to see one on Death and Taxes or in the story of tempo decks (Delver, UB Faeries, Murktide, etc)
Those are the two decks/archetypes I'm torn between for the next one!
Reid is such an amazing person. Thank you for this content!
Video quality keeps ramping up! Well done!
Thank you :)
“Now it’s cause they’re sleepy” is so fucking funny to me lmfao
There's a lot to love about this video, but I especially like the creative editing choices. Really hoping cardmarket makes more of these!
Thank you! :) I am indeed planning to make another one. They just take me so much longer, so I cannot pump them out as fast. I have to work on our other videos. Which archetype would you like to see next?
@@CardmarketMagic I'm a sucker for boomer modern decks so tron would be dope!
This is an incredible video, on one of the most incredible decks which is defining to magic. Well done.
Thank you :)
"You'll still see players turning tarmogoyfs sideways and ticking up lillianas at modern events with pouches under their eyes, but they're not doing that for the cash prizes, they're casting that bloodbraid elf to feel young again"
Goddamn that's a heavy line. Fantastic video!! Awesome to see Reid Duke in this. If you do another one, I'd love to see a white weenie/death and taxes history with Craig Wescoe, if that were possible, or maybe a Splinter Twin postmortem.
Death & Taxes will probably be the next one :) and don't worry, I'm one of those players ticking up Lilis with pouches under my eyes :P
Great as always. Thanks for putting this together!
Seriously the best MtG content out there. Huge props
Thank you! That is very kind of you to say :)
I mean, i get trying to paint jund as the underdog, but hand disruption and cascading felt pretty scummy for the longest time
This was fun. Really happy to see these history for decks video, and definitely looking forward to seeing more of it.
It's always a treat to see a history episode made so entertaining and still get the lesson across.
I love this series! Could you do the Death and Taxes archetype next?
Or White Weenie in general!
That would be a great one! Who would you have interviewed for D&T?
@@CardmarketMagic Surprise me!
This series is continuing to be one of my most looked forward to videos. Wonderful analysis and insight that both old and new players could get to appreciate, and just the amount of work and love in these is palpable. Can't wait for the next one!
Thank you that's so kind of you to say :D what archetype or piece of history would you like to see next?
Awesome video! It's always fun to hear about Magic's history and feel nostalgic.
Please make more of these videos! We appreciate the effort you've put in and yeah it's just good to be able to give people context for mad rambles
re: Combo Winter -- Probably the best example of the decks of the time was Brian Hacker's Pro Tour Rome deck. He kept a no-land hand, played Gustha's Scepter (a card that I'm sure most people have never heard of), passed, and then on his next turn was able to generate enough mana to deck out his opponent with Stroke of Genius.
(Hacker would also probably be a great topic for another historical MtG video. He built one of the first White Weenie decks, developed the idea of playing with 16-18 lands 5-8 spells 14-19 creatures in limited, invented the term "beatdown", and was just a major innovator in drafting. Though he's far enough in the Dark Ages of Magic that it might be hard getting much exact info.)
Anywho, great video as always! You said the historical videos take a while, but I think they're definitely worth it. Please keep 'em up!
Awesome video Carl and the whole Cardmarket crew (and insane guests)! Definitely keep them coming
Jund mid range is my favorite deck of all time and Reed is the GOAT of this deck. Amazing video.
Thanks for this, team. This was a wonderfully fun and informative video. Reminds me a lot of the tone of Enter the Battlefield. The love of the game shines through from all.
Awesome video! I liked this format a lot. I appreciate it is a lot of work and might not be the best in terms of time spent for community interaction, but these videos will stay around forever and be educational for a long time!
Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video! Not only is it excellently made, but also extremely interesting! Definitely getting me all nostalgic! Fantastic job on making this!
That's so incredibly kind of you to say :D thank you!
honestly these deep dives have been so great. really hope you keep doing them.
As someone who has Korvold as his commander, I loved reading about Jund and it’s history in MTG. The fact was Midrange was not even an archetype before and now it feels like the majority of standard decks is amazing.
That was a cool video. I love history and seeing all this history for Magic as despite my age I only started playing a little over a decade ago.
I hope you guys make more of these videos, especially for people like myself or newer players to see and hear how things used to be.
This was beautiful, I've always strived to be robust, consistent and efficient, much like my preferences in Magic decks. Jund being the forerunner
Superb! Thank you for the big effort and more of these :)
Love your content! This is one of my favorite videos to date. Loved the deep dive, please do more of these!
I'm thrilled that you enjoy them :) which archetype or piece of MTG history would you like to see in the next one?
@@CardmarketMagic My children and I would love a deep dive into Eldrazi (Tron) and the evolution of mono-blue play. You are our favorite channel to watch and enjoy MTG together as a family. Thank you all, and cheers from New Jersey, USA!
@@francocarozza4546 ooooh, Eldrazi tron might be too short of a story for a whole video, but the history of the eldrazi decks in MTG in general might make for a great video :D since there have been so many iterations and Eldrazi Tron is one of the more iconic
This is such a cool video, your enthusiasm adds so much, and of course Reid's as well. You just can't not smile when he talks about Magic, his love for the game just overflows from his expression
Yeah Reid just lights up when he talks about magic. How could you not want to make a 30-minute video about jund after talking to that guy? :D
This video was fantastic, please do more of these lmao. Jund is my all time favorite deck, I started playing in alara right as Jund became super popular so it holds a special place in my heart as being THE deck for my first 5 years of the game. Great work!
Please never stop these videos! They are awesome and rly fun to watch + you're actually learning a lot about the history of this great game
I'm happy you enjoy them :) is there an archetype or point in magic's history you would like to see in the next one?
This is such a great video!! It's really cool to see magic history told via a single deck!!
This is the type of content I wish there was more of. Fantastic job. And getting Reid to talk about the deck that made him an icon was so awesome to see. Thank you.
This format is one of my favs. Carl really shines in these passion-fueled montages and is really great at explaining decks via telling a story
I LOVE these videos! This one in particular finally got me to subscribe. I know they take a lot of time to make and it shows, they are extremely well made and super interesting. Pleaaaaaase keep making them!
I'll more :) I have to make sure that sub of your is worth it! Is there any archetype of slice of magic history that you would like to see in one of these?
Loved the video, thanks for all the time you put in to make it happen!
Thank you! All the people who get to enjoy it make it worth it :)
I can't describe how much I love this kind of content, I hope we get more of this, keep up the Nice work!!
Loved this video and all the commentaries! Thank you so much!
Been catching up with some of your older videos, but this one got me to subscribe. Thanks for this awesome video on the rich history of Magic!
Thank you for the sub! We'll do our best to make the future content solid to make that sub worth it :)
These deep dives are some of my favorite content you do. Please keep doing more!
First time I've subbed to something on TH-cam in years. I mostly stopped playing MTG 2 years ago, but I have still been watching all of the Cardmarket Magic content I could find over the past 3 months. You guys do a really great job and I really appreciate the quality and fun found in these video's! Hoping you get all the success you deserve! :)
The added effort for this type of video is worth it, this video is so cool! Keep it up, you guys are easily the most impressive magic youtube channel and the effort really shows.
Thank you :) that's really nice to hear
Came into this not expecting to like it as much as the regular gameplay (since it’s so high quality), but I found it very interesting and engaging throughout. Would love to see more of these!
This was a great video! Fantastic work as always, Carl!
Thank you :D I'm really glad you enjoyed it
This is by far your best video, and it's one of the best magic videos out there in all. A+
Really cool video, love the history of one of the sweetest archetypes. And very cool the get Reid Duke himself in on the action!
the rate at which you guys pump out high quality content is insane, love you guys!
Thank you :) I'm thrilled you enjoy our work
These history videos are my favourites on the channel. Always love seeing a new one
My deepest congratulations. The video and the documentation all around behind it is simply amazing.
Thank you :) I really enjoyed making it and I'm thrilled when people appreciate the work put into it. It's truly kind of you to say!
I've had a bit of an off and on relationship with Magic, so I get a little lost on some of the terminology in your other videos. This is perfect for me to get that background I've been missing. Love this format!
I'm happy to help fill in the gaps :) MTG does indeed have a complex history and we forget about it sometimes when we talk and shortcut and use expressions that might be incomprehensible to some players. We really should be keeping that more in mind 😅
These are the best videos! The deep dives are amazing! Please keep making them!
This channel has really been putting out some fantastic videos. I love all of the hosts they have, everyone has great charisma.
Thank you :) that's so kind of you to say!
Wow! Insane video! Thanks!!! Watched it without breaks. Crazy good!
Thank you :) I'm happy you enjoyed it
Awesome start to the video. Really draws in attention setting up the archetypes for the midrange talk.
Excellent video, I really love these MTG history lessons. And as cherry on top even with the duke of Jund himself! Truely amazing content, thanks for making this.
What an awesome video and format, keep them coming!🤩
Thank you :)
This is one of the best videos I've seen on youtube. Your editing is amazing, the music is great, the research is well done and the guests are out of this world. I wish I could do more than just like it and tell everyone I know to watch it. Please do more of these!
That's really truly kind of you to say :D I'm thrilled you enjoyed it! Is there an archetype or slice of MTG history you'd like to see in the next one?
@@CardmarketMagic it's the least we can do when you provide this quality of free entertainment. Personally my all time favorite would probably be about cube-history. However, I'm not sure that video is doable as cube isn't a sanctioned format so there isn't much recorded history there.
Realistically I'd love to see a video on tempo (vs card advantage) with focus on tempo decks through the time. I know you covered this during your RDW-video but it's be cool with a brief history on tempo that isn't just "kill your opponent fast".
Tribal decks would also be awesome!
Love this type of content! Thanks for putting the extra hours in for it. Subscribed :)
Thank you for subscribing :) it actually really helps us grow! What kind of archetype of slice of MTG history would you like to see in the next one?
Fantastic video. The quality and time put into these really shows.
Thank you :) that is kind of you to say
"They're casting that Bloodbraid Elf to feel young again."
Carl, I thought we were talking about midrange decks and not aggro damage straight at my heart
I'm sorry 😅 if it's any consolation, I also play Bloodbraid Elf to remember what youth feels like :P
Okay, this was the best video I watched in a long time and I really got sentimental. Bommer Jund was my pet deck in the 2013 Legacy-GP in Strasbourg and it got me really far. It was basically the shell you guys were talking about with Deathrite Shamans, Tarmogoyfs, Punishing Fire + Grove Combo, Liliana, Thoughtseize, Abrupt Decays and Dark Confidants. God, I loved this deck. I went 8:1 on day one, and sadly did misplay on day 2 and got the 33rd place. After the Deathrite ban the deck died and I sadly had to change. But deep down in my heart, this deck will always be one of my favorites. As you said, good honest matches. Thank you for this amazing video, please keep on going with this quality content.
33rd in a GP is honestly a very solid finish! I'm happy you enjoyed the video :) it was nostalgic for me too. So many memories connected to that deck
Awesome video. Loved all the quotes and the editing.
Thank you :)
This video is so great. From the perspective of someone who started playing magic in 2008 it’s nice to know all the history before I even got into the game. Now it’s 2023 it’s nice to see the love of magic is still very strong.
These videos are awesome, love the long-form history of MTG archetypes videos.
I *love* these deep dive videos - both for the nostalgia, and for showing to my best friend who I'm getting into the game!
I'm happy you enjoy them :) is there a specific archetype you'd like to see in the next one?
@@CardmarketMagic Ooh, interesting question. I think looking at the evolution of the Izzet turn-four deck going from Splinter Twin to Delver to Murktide might be interesting!
Tron could also be a fun one...
Such a good video, and a wonderful way to capture the history of this game! A lot of work, but well worth it!
Your production is at true documentary quality!
Thank you! :) I did work a bit too long on this one. But comments like this make it worth it
I love these magic history videos! Always a great watch!
I'm thrilled you enjoyed it :) which archetype or piece of magic history would you like to see in the next one?
@@CardmarketMagic I think a history video about the “golden age” of modern could be very interesting! Maybe overview some of the most iconic matches, moments, etc. ideally with interviews from players?
Honestly, whatever piece of magic history you are passionate about will be most entertaining. It really comes across how much effort you put into the “series” of sorts!
This was a fantastic video. Thank you for putting in the time and effort!!
Thank you for your kind comment!
As someone who started playing magic in ~2015, I love these kinds of videos, they’re a such a cool glimpse into what the game used to be like!
I really enjoy these so I hope that you’re able to keep making them!
As someone that started playing during Shards of Alara, this video was super nostalgic and spot-on with everything I remember about Jund over the years. So cool that you were able to get Reid to join and talk about his history of the deck. I haven't really played Magic since Khans of Tarkir, but this sure made me miss it. I'll definitely be checking out more of your "History of" videos!
I'm happy you enjoyed it :) is there a specific archetype or part of MTG history you'd like to see in the next one?
@@CardmarketMagic It's possible you've already done some of these, but I'd love to see a video on the development and evolution of aggro-control with decks like Faeries, Caw Blade, and Delver (and probably earlier decks as well).
Combo decks are so different that they could each get their own video, but a deck like Elves (starting in Extended, having some life in Modern and Standard occasionally, and popping up long-term in Legacy) that went through a lot of different iterations could be fun, especially since it also has the storyline of being a deck that took a whole Pro Tour by storm and made a junk rare suddenly super valuable. And for example, if you had LSV as a guest to talk about Elves at PT Berlin that would be super fun!
Dredge is also a completely wacky deck that has gone through a ton of changes. I never played Dredge personally, but I always thought that the way cards like Bridge from Below and Dread Return, and the Dredge mechanic allowed you to basically play a completely different game from your opponent (your graveyard is basically your hand and you can both draw and cast cards from it, and mostly don't pay any mana for your spells) was a beautiful example of how deep Magic and the interactions of its tens of thousands of cards could go.
Last idea would be Necropotence, since it's an oooold card that is currently being talked about a lot because of the One Ring. A lot of people know what Necropotence does, but they might not know about how it not only survived SO many ban cycles (along with partner in crime Dark Ritual), it somehow got reprinted in 5th Edition because players needed more Necro in their lives lives. There's probably a lot of fun history to dig into around how card evaluation, deckbuilding, and "ban-worthiness" has evolved over time.
Sorry for the long reply! 😅
I love this history deep dive into magic decks! Great video!
This video was so good dude !!! Keep going. Awesome.
I love all the content you guys do on this channel but these types of videos are my favorite. I would love to see more deep dives like this

This is an amazing video! Thanks for the MTG history breakdown and for interviewing Reid
Love the vid. Congrats on (almost) 100k subs!
Thank you :)
I wish I could like this video multiple times! This video was awesome and I really hope we get to see more of these archetype deep dives.
That's very kind of you to say :) is there an archetype you'd specifically like to see in the next one?
I absolutely love this kind of video, thank you! This was really well done!
