That's cuz Quo started out as a sort of psyck rock act - long before they changed into the two bar - slim fit jeans rockers of Deeper and Down, Roll over, etc etc. But that Picture of Matchstick men sound, was very typical of this era. I even hear bits of early Pink Floyd in the vocals, also psychedelic rockers in their younger days :)
Lyrics: It was love at first sight when they met With our Romeo and his Juliet But never was a love so full of woe As for Juliet and her Romeo Hang about Hey Hey Would it be so different today Oh no, you'd hear me say I love you and love finds a way What light by yonder, window breaks Juliet gives, Romeo takes Sweet talk soon will bring the morning All of me tonight, marry me in the morning Hang about Hey Hey What ever would your mother say How could, I change your name today I love you and love finds a way Oh with this kiss I take my life Oh my love, Oh my wife. Did Juliet and her Romeo think that parting really was such sweet sorrow Hang about Hey Hey Would we really end up that way? Is it really that hard to say? I love you and love finds a way
I’m sure the lyrics of this song were inspired by the popularity of the film “Romeo & Juliet”, which was released in the UK in March 1968. The movie was heavily publicized then for, first, showing the two lead performers nude (very trendy for films then) as well as casting actual teenagers to play the roles, as they were supposed to be in the original story.
apollomemories73...Did you know the lead singer was called Dave Holland..."Holly" was his nickname among us friends of his..he passed away in April of this year,I have just found out yesterday.A smashing lad when we were young, played in rival groups,in the 1960's..R.I.P. HOLLY.
Hm... I wonder if anybody's ever written a story about the lovers Lorenzo and Jessica in The Merchant of Venice (there was a song by an Italian singer in the '90s with the words "a little bit of Jessica," but it had nothing to do with The Merchant of Venice). Still, I find Lorenzo and Jessica's romance more interesting than that of Romeo and Juliet because of the cultural differences between the lovers (Jessica was Jewish, Lorenzo Christian).
You Nat God doesn't damn anyone into Hell fire. God is the eternal Fire. Everyone Goes into the Fire. Its not what people think. The Truth has been veiled for at least 1000 years. He back!!! This song testifies to exactly what i am saying praise God!!!!
Came here via Nothing But A Heartache. What a great tune this is.
Nothing but a heartache and pictures of matchstick men and blend it with heavy jellys I keep hearing that same old song
1968
One mighty fine record should be on everyones playlist
What a pleasure to hear this record.
60s freakbeat with early glam rock mix.
Extremely catchy
That mic overdrive is awesome
As a mod, youtube & you Mr Oscarowski have opened up so much tuneage to me...cheers!
Some of it sounds a bit like the Flirtation's "Nothing But a Heartache" AWESOME!!!
Written by the same writers Daniel.
@@johnreed2417 Wow. Never thought of that.
You're right!
and same producer
@@johnreed2417 : that's AWESOME!
Excellent to have this record! We were googling lyrics trying remember the name of the group it’s been like 40 years since last heard this.
still brilliant now. heard it first in the 80ts. still groovy.
@Nikol S. Ervantit was reissued on a lp called the british pyschedelic trip vol 1.
Love love love ❤❤❤
Syd Barrett meets the Hollies. Sublime
Hello John,
That's it! Barret/Hollies. If The Hollies were a psych band, they may have sounded like this.
Sounds like Status Quo this absolutely magnificent. Cos it's psychedelic because it's Far-Out !
''Pictures of matchstick man''.
Status Quo sounds like
Maybe a very early Status Quo
Agreed. Sounds like the quos early singles.
That's cuz Quo started out as a sort of psyck rock act - long before they changed into the two bar - slim fit jeans rockers of Deeper and Down, Roll over, etc etc.

An absolute fave of mine in the mid 80s when I first got into 60s garage/psych/punk whatever - really has the love and loss of the original play...
suddenly there's nothing but a heartache on my mind
similar to the flirtations "Nothing but a heartache" , also produced by Wayne Bickerton the same year .... not a coincidence
Lyrics:
It was love at first sight when they met
With our Romeo and his Juliet
But never was a love so full of woe
As for Juliet and her Romeo
Hang about Hey Hey
Would it be so different today
Oh no, you'd hear me say
I love you and love finds a way
What light by yonder, window breaks
Juliet gives, Romeo takes
Sweet talk soon will bring the morning
All of me tonight, marry me in the morning
Hang about Hey Hey
What ever would your mother say
How could, I change your name today
I love you and love finds a way
Oh with this kiss I take my life
Oh my love, Oh my wife.
Did Juliet and her Romeo think that
parting really was such sweet sorrow
Hang about Hey Hey
Would we really end up that way?
Is it really that hard to say?
I love you and love finds a way
thanks so much for posting these!! I've always luved this song and while I'm singing along with it...I wasn't always sure if I had the lyrics down!
We need more people like you to decipher these great songs.

I'm not a mod, I'm not even from that era, but indeed, my sensibilities is keen on sounds and their composition. Thanks, Mr or Ms. Oscarowski.
Pure magic!!!
What a great single this is. Whew! If you love this also check out 'Movin' In'. Toby Twirl were a really good band x
they made some top tracks
Please listen to The Flirtations "Nothing but a heartache" for similarities to this song.
Five piece from Rutherford College Newcastle recently vinyl and CD of their works available
Great. First came across this on the British Psychedelic trip vol 1. LP in the 80's. Does anyone know anything about Toby Twirl the group?
Reminiscent of early Pink Floyd.Nice.Different to Movin in which is very catchy and my personal fave.
Sublime
Same year as Zeffirelli’s film production was released
Sounds like Peter gabriel and status quo from 1967 jamming.
Love this
Which Outsiders came first?
These guys from Florida or the ones from Ohio who had the hit, "Time Won't Let Me" or The Outsiders ftom the Netherlands
A slight nod in the direction of The Hollies.

Sorry, I should have said written a song, not written a story.
Musical proximity with Syd maybe...
Jesus Christ…epic. Still epic.
Nothing but a Heartache by The Flirtations sampled this?
Composers, Bickerton and Waddington, were the producers of The Flirtations. They remade the song for the girls. Both version are brilliant.
Romeo was represented I. The Disney World running Marathon
prob inspired by the 1968 film of the same name
