The difference that it is Total Cold War now. But several years later this modification was cancelled since P&W refused to supply engines. So there is no IL-96 in production with engines made in USA.

It is about a width of a340 and length of the shortened b747. Its prototype, Ilyushin 86 was longer. The issue was with the engines - nk86 of Il-86 were more powerful than ps90 of Il-96. Therefore the airframe was a bit squeezed to be lifted by 4 ps90 turbofans. Anyway il-96 had nothing to do with b737

Anyway, good riddance.

What engines do they run
Aviadvigatel PS-90 two shaft turbofan engines. Russia has manufactured at least 1,000 of them.
It is my favorite aircraft, RA-96014 is ex KrasAir fleet,
Also Domodedovo and AiRUnion. Eighteen years, four airlines, three insolvencies. Like the way they look but I would never fly in one.

It’s more based on the earlier A310 model , but with four engines. I like the aircraft but not the owner…
It is comparable with Boeing 787/Airbus A330 in size.
