On my Edge 800 the screen appeared to be held in with some sort of double sided adhesive foam, as once I got a small knife blade in it was easy to slice through it. Label Off fluid helped removing the remnants, although in hindsight I could have run that around the edges first to soften the glue. Also I separated the two case halves first.
Hello, can you please advise - I am not sure if I should purchase glass replacement or screen replacement. Is it easy to replace glass only? It seems to be cheaper or should I buy full LCD replacement?
2:10 I see youre trying to take the old adhesive padding off.... I didnt bother with that. I recently decided to replace the battery in mine after it started losing 20% of its charge every hour when out on a ride. normally i have my backlight completely off or set at 10% to extended battery life and battery life was still very poor. Rather than removing the old adhesive pads i used it as a base/foundation that the silicon sealant i used to seal up the device could grip into to as it set. This could mean that its not 100% waterproof but it will be a lot more water resistant than the sticky tape used in this video to stick the screen back on. You can see that there are still small gaps in the corners at 3:56. if you follow this mans instructions and use sticky tape. Be prepared to lose your device if it suddenly starts to rain while your out cycling because water will seep though those corners and kill it. Working with silicone sealant is a bit more messy and there is a curing period where youre waiting for the silicone to set but you wont need to worry about rain water seeping in and killing your device once its properly set. any kind of silicone sealant will do. It doesnt matter if its automotive or D.I.Y bathroom sealant so long as its silicone based.
@@bssimmonds actually my 520plus micro usb port got damaged, and i didn’t find micro usb port as it is surface mount. and is your garmin screen keeps intact after applying foam tape ? or falls apart
@@DESWALANUJ the micro USB port on my 520 is a surface mount on the main board that is screwed to the case. The screen replacement cables plug into the main board. To replace the screen there is no need to remove to main board. My replacement screen didn’t fall apart when applying the foam tape.
You took great care to remove the adhesive from the case, but left the old adhesive on the back of the used screen that was installed. This can be seen at time 4:09. Is this going to be a problem?
I've connected a new screen, there's only the back light, otherwise screen is blank. I'm pretty sure the ribbon is pushed in properly and the black strip pressed down. Maybe the screen is a dud

It worked fine for a couple of minutes, then, after about 10 minutes, it must have slipped out or something, the backlight still works, but the screen is blank. After pushing the ribbon in a bit firmer, it worked again, then, the same problem. Repeated 3x, now I'm getting frustrated. This happens even if left completely still. I've already replaced the tape with some isolation tape, as it's getting dusty and doesn't stick well and I've tried cleaning the ribbon. Have you encountered this and do you have any suggestions?
@@RepairMyDevice hi, Yeah, I figured that the screen must have had a taste of the water that the rest of its body died off.... it works with no pixels, light working and stably once put in, but once or twice turned on and off, only backlight. Then, it only works again if the cable is removed and put in again.. this does not happen with the old shattered screen, that belongs to the device. Seems like I'll have to order from China, haven't found any seller in Europe. Have you had any good or bad experiences doing that?
The only issue I have with this video is that you are removing a screen that's already broken. That's easy... the trick is to remove an unbroken screen and keep it intact for re-use!

Is this for an Edge 520 and are they available as separate items? It also depends what is broken, you may need to dismantle first to find out.
