I use lawn bug killer for another reason. I live in the PNW and we have moles They love the grass because lots of food for them lives in it. I discovered that if I kill their food source they don't like my lawn and move on to the neighbors. Now if only there was something to keep them pesky rabbits away.

The worst thing anybody can do during the hot summer months is mow their grass shorter than 4 in. The hot sun literally fries the unprotected roots if they are not shaded by the blades of grass. It's okay for your lawn to go dormant and turn brown in the summer and will bounce back, as long as the brown blades are long enough to shade the roots. I've seen so many professional lawn companies mow my neighbors' lawns too short, killing off the entire lawn.

Duocide contains carbaryl (old Sevin) and bifenthrin, the new Sevin stopped using carbaryl because it was banned in Canada, instead, they use Zeta-cypermethrin and bifenthrin. I thought that I would share that with you because I noticed some comments from Canadians and I plan to try it myself because it's cheaper and more available than Duocide, which is a good product, but expensive and I found that it doesn't last as long as they say. Love your videos man. Out of all the DIY channels I follow on TH-cam, I can honestly say yours is my favorite. You always bring us such cool tech, super easy to follow instructions, and the first-hand experience of you actually completing it yourself! Thanks so much for the great content. Will continue wo watch/like/comment as more videos come out!

Just ordered the respirator and will be getting the duocide as well. Great advice. What an incredible lot in NH. My family and I used to visit Pittsburg, NH up near the Canadian border every year before we moved out west. NH is a beautiful place.

I thought you were going to focus on diseases like brown patch, which happen when nights are warm. In case anyone is interest, according the Andersons “DuoCide's unique formula contains both bifenthrin and carbaryl - two professional-grade insecticides”. Good to know if you can’t get this product.

Gotta disagree with you. I live in mass. And we’ve been in a drought for like 2 months with temps near 90 or above everyday. Every house on my street has brown lawns. Now we all can’t have bud infestation. I’m sure come fall, all these lawns will bounce back once we get more consistent rain.

It is worth mentioning that the greener parts of your yard were far more shaded than browner areas.

Not..."the only product on the market" that treats bugs on and below the surface. Spectracide with triazicide, either spray or granular does this as well. Get your facts straight.

Another great thing to do with a lawn in incorporate clover. It's beautiful, soft on the feet, naturally introduces nitrogen to the soil, and the pollinators LOVE it. We need to get out of the mentality of western society and "perfect lawns".

There is no "we". You do what you want with your lawn. For me, clover is ugly. I want nothing but beautiful, green luscious grass.

What happens to all the birds and that stop on the lawn and eat these pellets and eats the bugs? And the water run off into lakes streams water ways... same with fertilizers they are an environmental problem to animals and water all for a greenlawn

That's why you water it in. Look, do some homework on these products, how they break down, and their degrees of impact on a homeowner application. Before you make passive aggressive short-hand accusations about homeowner-grade pesticides. Also, listen to some testimonials about lyme disease and the struggles one unfortunate tick bite could cause a loved one.
If you want your concerns to have an actual impact on the environment, look at misuse of pesticides at an industrial level. Blaming the homeowner is a tactic interest groups use to prevent industrial costs due to mandated regulation.

@@andrewszabo1552 I've got tons of naturalist friends that have struggled with chronic Lyme for years, none of them would recommend that you poison native pollinator populations, which are already in decline, as a means of trying to protect yourself from ticks. That's what DEET, permethrin, and checking yourself is for. You can't just kill the ecosystem in fear of a tick bite.
I do agree that the majority of the blame belongs at a corporate scale, and shifting blame to individual consumers is a method to protect those corporate interests, but what we choose to grow on our property is one of the few places we can make a major difference in our local ecosystems. Native plants service ecosystems, pollinators, songbirds; grass does not. And the more fertilizer, herbicides, pesticides, and water you pour into the soil to keep your lawn looking green, absolutely does effect populations of native species. Insects are the essential foundation to the food web, and their populations are in free fall right now.

Here's a fabulous solution: embrace bugs, eliminate turf, and put in native plants. They're pretty, they support the ecosystem, don't require all the lawn maintenance or toxic chemicals. Bugs feed birds, too. Lawns do nothing.

We have Japanese beetles every year. I put down an insecticide every year to kill the bugs. This stuff killed the earth worms along with the grubs. I have a terrific lawn and tried not putting down insecticide two years ago. The next year I once again observed the Robbins pulling large nightcrawlers out of my lawn. I also think that in the process of using chemicals the good microbes we're being hurt as well. The soil is a living being and the use of too many chemicals designed to kill things kills the soil as well. I have worked hard to make the soil itself a healthy living medium which has really produced one of the nicest lawns anywhere. I still get some grubs but the lawn does so well that the damage is barely noticeable. I also need less fertilizer.

Does the duo also gets rid of ants? I have so many of them all around my home, they are beginning to show inside the house. While I can get them out, I prefer to get rid of them from their source: everywhere in my grass, without destroying the lawn.

Yes, I don't have a problem with them, but a ton of people do. If you check the label it covers a number of different kinds.
