  • So, if you have trouble after seeding a certain spots in your lawn and they keep dying over and over. This is relevant to areas what the grass seed has come in well and got established but thins or dies out again. Especially if you've tried to seed the area several times.
Find out what to do next so that you're future grass seeding attempts are not failures too.

The soil also looks clayey. Over dress with gypsum. Try to build up the depth of soil by top dressing. Remove the rocks. We did this, what a job but 2 year later a lush green Zoysia Zeon lawn

You are so right when you discovered an old tree had been removed there. Remaining tree roots decay over time and cause trouble for turf season after season later. Decomposing tree roots get hot in the summer and also cause lack of oxygen which roots need to survive. Rocks also arent helping either.

    TBH
it's amazing how many resources and labor is required to maintain a crop that doesn't yield anything important except for esthetics. It's purely liability at that point

This video is a great one ! My sister in law had a house built & the Contractor buried their trash on the property before the sod was installed. The summer of that year it took a lot of watering to keep it from dying . I should’ve showed my wife this video, she’s always wondering why I buy so much seed & the grass dies at the front of the house in the middle of summer . Thanks for posting this .

No problem, good luck with your lawn in the future. Those pesky contractors don't think about the lawn when they're building the house just the easy way out. 😕

Nice video about some soil pathology vs grass success! ;-)
I have a similar situation in which great part of my lawn area was filled post construction. Meaning a bunch of rocks, shallow soil coverage, etc. and all the other dying grass issues.
How to overcome all that? In fact it's rather simple, demanding a bit of time and patience, but not money! Yep! A first in nowadays approach to buy, buy, buy! LOL 😂
I made a compost pile! In fact three compost piles. So not only I compost the vast majority of my organic "waste". But the result goes straight into the soil. The improved soil biology did the job mother nature set them to do... Nowadays I have a rather decent (as in good) lawn! Pleasing to the eyes and way more sturdy when handling seasonal drought or flood! Win win situation. ;-)
So feed the soil (good finished compost) let the biology do it's work. It will recover (or build) the soil sooner then later.
Tip: the presence of earth worms is a good tell tale you're in the right direction.
BTW Stay well away from chemical fertilizers and all that mumbo jumbo of "credit card" lawn/gardening/farming...

@@crpth1 Great info man ! When I bought my home the previous owners did absolutely nothing to the yard , groundhog holes , over run with squirrels , erosion , compaction & lots of wild violets .
So of course I did the normal thing , soil test , aerate , Big Box grass seed , lime & had great results until a very hot summer came . I was left with weeds so I sprayed & that’s when the problems started . After two seasons of failure I wanted to give up & leave it the way it met it .
That got me wondering about a different approach, so I looked at a video series from Dr Elaine Ingam & her findings are exactly what you talked about . Last fall I got on the way , Earthworms , Robins ,clover, Rabbits & lots of wildlife are plentiful in the meantime . Along with better grass seed , bio stimulants , mulching everything , I can see a slow movement in the right direction. Peace.

Great video. Had issues with old evergreen trees that were no longer in spots that made the soil acidic. Always some underlying issue.

The rocks is the issue here. I had a septic repair and they brought “topsoil” full of rocks. Anywhere that was rocks, the rock would get hot and kill the grass all around it. Make sure topsoil u get is screened for rocks of 1/2” or less

    • @ColumbusLandscapers
      @ColumbusLandscapers  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

Correct, I believe this was a builder issue. Any topsoil that you get respectively should be screened for rocks. Many times in new belt homes we see that there's no rock removal or topsoil added, they just lay down the sod.
