      My father had a '77. I still smell the leather. His white on white outside with the red dash and carpet inside. He sold it in '78, to his friend, and he bought new Caddy. The Caddy was nice, but I liked the New Yorker better.

      Looks impressive but my memories of mid 70's cars where undetperformance, cheap plastic wood grain and plastic everything else. Coming from sixties and pre 1974 cars, these seemed cheap and cheesy. Looking at them now, they seem like luxury boats floating down the road compared to the cheaply made and hugely expensive shot boxes of today

      No kidding. That was also a time when a luxury car had a luxury ride. Now "luxury" cars especially German have terrible rides on anything but the smoothest pavements which of course there is very little of. The blame lies in the super stiff suspension and low profile high inflation rated tire. My S600 has a terrible ride compared to my H/D 3/4 ton Chevrolet 4X4 pick up if you can believe it. True!!

If Chrysler would have taken some of their beautiful designs from the past and some of their Concepts and brought them into the future with today's technology and slight redesigns, they wouldn't be a failed company at this point in time.

      1973 Imperial holds the record as longest non-limousine car. Same car as your 1972, but with extra rubber bumper guards to attempt meeting the DOT's new bumper laws. There wasn't a convenient way to add new bumpers & bumper shocks to those Imperials, so I'm guessing that's why it went to the C-body platform in 74.

    I had a very similar car, a 77 Newport, with the fender skirts and padded landau top. One of the most unusual features of this car is the seek function on the radio. Under the tuning window, there are 2 large rectangular buttons, "LOCAL' and "DISTANT". When you press these, it will tune to the next clear radio station. Local will only stop at strong signals, distant at weaker signals also. Since it's an analog radio with a mechanical tuning mechanism, there is a motor inside the radio which will turn the knob. As if that weren't enough, there are 2 buttons on the floor. One is the normal high-beam button, the other also activates the radio seek function, so you can be driving down the road, hit the floor button and tune to the next station without ever taking your hands off the wheel.

    Thank you for posting this video! These were gorgeous automobiles!!! If I might make ONE correction. There was ONLY the Imperial LeBaron model series (in two and four door models) in '75. The "Crown" series Imperials was dropped in 1971. So, yours is a 1975 Chrysler Imperial LeBaron two door coup. In other words, there is no "Crown" in the car's name. That said, the LeBaron series was always the higher-end series of the two so, yours effectively came with all the options offered for that year. AND '75 was (regrettably) the LAST year for Imperial production. For '76 Chrysler took the same vehicle (and engines) and offered it as the New Yorker Brougham - yes, at a lower price-point but the trick worked as sales of this vehicle went from 8830 Imperials in '75 to over 40,000 New Yorker units in 1976 which greatly aided Chrysler return to profitability that year.

    • @joeseeking3572
      @joeseeking3572 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No so grasshopper. The Crown package was a $569 option for the coupe. Regualr coupes had a 4 window hardtop design, the Crown package got you the canopy vinyl roof with padded fixed rear quarter window. You'd think almost all of them had that option, but every now and they you do see a standard hardtop coupe. Similar thing with the New Yorker, where the same treatment was offered as the St. Regis.

    Looks like it did in 1975 just off the dealer's lot. Beautiful car. I wish I could go back to '75 and buy it new. I like this car better than any new car today. You can keep all the electronic gizmos cars have today. This car rode better and the seats were more comfortable than any car you can buy today, and that includes a new Rolls. .

    Ha! Even the cars they bought were perfection.I recently heard an audio interview of Richard stating their Dad drove Richard and their Mom across the country (with no air conditioning in1960) to take a look at California b4 moving there.Karen did not want to go on this trip so she stayed behind with relatives.I'm not sure if their Mom drove but wondering why such low miles on their Dad's car.Maybe he bought Dad a few cars.Thanks for posting this! Love the car and the view!

    Beautiful car👍👍👍 Looks brand new👍 I am curious what brand/part nr master brake cylinder it has. I need a master cylinder for my ‘74 Imperial (4 wheel disc brakes like the ‘75s) but they are impossible to find. I noticed somebody installed a different model master cylinder on this Imperial, it looks like one used on ‘70s Corvette’s. I would really appriciate any info you can give me on that master cylinder. Thanks!

      That's a feature built into brake pads to let you know it's time to replace them. There's a metal tang that contacts the rotor surface when the pads get thin. It's literally there as an audible alarm.
