    I tightened the 3 bolts as much as I could. No idea how but there is still a tiny amount of play on the top where that round plate between the knuckle and hub assembly actually moves with all 3 bolts tightened the hell out of. There's like a mm of play there. No idea what happened. Also I didnt torque those 3 but they are tight. I torqued the cv Nut to over 130 ft lbs. Hopefully nothing gets damaged...and no premature failure.

    We normally recommend using some penetrating fluid such as PB blaster to brake up the rust. That normally helps with the removal of stubborn parts.

    Excellent Video and Instructions.
    I am not a particularily good mechanic and usually have a professional do this type of work, but due to financial reasons I thought I would attempt this replacement on my 2000 GMC Jimmy.
    The step by step instructions provided where excellent and I was able to to the job successfully.
    I am from Canada, so did not us the 1AAuto parts,but the video really helped and I will look for your help for repairs in the future.
    Thanks Again.

    I live in the Salt belt and I can tell you the driver side bearing will not come off. I've tried prying it, zip gun, heat and now I'm at the point of trying to press it out with a 10 ton press.... nothing really worked. I took off the knuckle and it's time for the press....

    Thank you so much for this post. I watched it several times before doing the install. I followed your instructions to the letter and it worked flawless. I just finished it about an hour and a half give or take. Took a few soda breaks. I did buy a 18mm with a swivel connected to it from NAPA prior to starting. It helped a lot getting to those hard to reach bearing bolts. Anyway thanks so much, real professional.

    @Blackops353 When hubs go bad they generally cause a humming noise that will change pitch as you turn your steering wheel for curves. A whooping sound while accelerating sounds more like a problem with your airbox or intake hose in to the engine, or maybe your rear differential, could be a few different things.

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @BOBKB3NZX If you mean where the hub flange bolts to the steering knuckle, yes you could use anti sieze there.

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    You may want to turn the wheel by hand to see if you can tell where the noise is comming from.

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @russelln114 the hub can get seized on to the axle, then you will need a puller. I personally have not expreienced this. So chances are, on this type of hub, you can get it apart without the puller.

  • @recentlychanged
    @recentlychanged 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So your replacement hub *doesn't* come with a new O-ring? What about the axle nut?

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @thebubbaking17 The basics should be similar, you may have to do a few different things to remove it from your truck. We currently do not have a repair video for that particular application. Thank you for checking out our auto repair channel. Have a great day!

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Bassman8519 It sounds as though there could be a piece of rust or something causing the hub not to sit flush. This would need to be cleaned and removed so that when you bolt the hub to the knuckle it sits flush.

    Great video just did this job on a 96' blazer a little different than later models. Passenger side had a womp womp when I drove. In my model you do NOT have to remove the brake booster cable I learned this the hard way. And the wheel nut took a 36 mm socket. Use 18 mm short sockets to remove top nut on wheel bearing assembly. Clearance between the cv joint and balljoint nut is a little tight on the top nut. Other than that no problems and very simple to accomplish. Thanks for the video.

    @1aauto Item arrived 2 days after I purchased it. Finally have a day to install it but running into some problems. Seems the hub is rusted on and cant seem to pry it off. Used plenty of PB Blaster and still nothing. Tried your method in the video as well. Hopefully it comes loose soon. Maybe I should purchase a gear puller? Unfortunately my options are limited.I dont want to keep whacking it and possibly damage something.

    if everything is stuck (rotor,bearings on spline)bust out the heavy hammer.remove center nut,then tire.before removing anything else .spray some lube then grab a hammer and wooden block in case ur a bad shot and give the spline a few shots driving it into the bearing.if it goes in easy ur lucky and can just proceed with the rest of disassembly.if not u gotta hit it a little harder till it starts to travel into bearing.a little rust will bind them up good.

    does the center nut have to be done by a air gun? or will a breaker bar work?

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for watching. A air gun will take it out easier however you should be able to do it with a breaker bar. Please let us know how the repair comes out!

    Anytime you are dealing with your brake pads, calipers. ect... you should wet them with soapy water and wear gloves to minimize your exposure to asbestos fibers. You won't know how bad it can hurt you until 20-50 years later.

      This is only true for older models (and usually only drum brakes) now the friction material is safe to handle.

      If you're working on OLD cars with original brakes maybe, but modern brakes haven't had asbestos in them for decades now.

    The lugs on this vehicle go to 100 ft/lbs. Not 75, if you use a good spec site like prodemand you will get better info on things like torque specs

      Thank you for watching! Try using a bigger hammer and heating it up with a torch. Hope this helps!

      You need a cheater bar. I use a 10 foot long piece of 2" pipe, slip it over the breaker handle and use it for leverage. These axle nuts can be stubborn.
