Yes please, continue with the series. I love how practical a lot of the reasoning is, rather than just “it looks bad”, like so many other TH-camrs say. Hearing “colour batches will almost never match” is something I didn’t know about those cutesy appliances. Perfect reason to not give in to my “it’s so pretttyyyy” urges.
The shirt is figure skater chic! I love it! - signed a former figure skater
okay, but that top looks amazing on you. You always have such good style
Thank you 😊
He's so stylish.. every episode!
Agreed. The top looks great on you.
Love the top! I believe in wearing what you love in whatever colour or style. Life is too short. Yup daughter bought a sectional sofa, moved to a house with a small living room and...she's trying to sell it! Before I buy anything you've gotta work out shape of your rooms, floor and wall space, doors, radiators and you usually find the thing won't fit or be showcased properly. Saved me a fortune x x
I didn't really understand why he said people were gonna be negative about it. I think it looks great and it looked fantastic on him
I would love if you could do a video on what disability and mobility friendly furniture to look for and designs. I know what not to look for like no low chairs and sofas but not sure what to be looking for as a positive.
Sturdy arm chairs! No throw rugs. Good lighting. ❤
I'm so glad you made the Smeg comment that probably went over everyone's head. You made my morning.
The first time I ever saw a Smeg appliance in a magazine, I wondered who thought that was a good name for their company.🤣🤣
I bought a set of the SMEG letters on eBay and put them on my 4 drawer black toolbox ... just for the heck of it. Good or bad, that's my kind of humor.
I cracked up!!!
I haaaaate the corduroy trend. My aunt and uncle had a brown one in the 80's. They smoked everything in their house and I still smell that sofa every single time I see a picture of them. Booo..
I appreciate how you explain why to avoid something instead of just throwing shade at it.
Great point on that dye lot color. The same goes for paints, yarn, tiles for walls or floors. So be sure to purchase a bit more than what you need in case you need to touch up or replace any part of it. As for your episodes, I'd love to see you take a bit more time each episode covering in deeper detail on specific topics.. example, the bedroom. Colors. What to mix with colors that you suggest to use or colors to use with ones you don't suggest but you know some will still choose lol. And you rock that glitter shirt.. keep it up !!
I think this was your best video yet. I love cringing at tiktok diy with you but this one has real value (for me at least). Please continue your good work !
Low sofas are useless if you are a certain age. I'm 57 years young and I can't fathom why anyone would buy low furniture. I like your top. So chic.
Thank you so much! And agree - they’re good if you’re knees are still less than 20 🤣
@@mrphoenixgrey Thank you Thank you for mentioning accessibility issues in furniture selection.
Lol, I have a different problem with my sofa. My feet do not touch the floor when I'm sitting properly on it. I'm 5' 5". I am wondering if it was made for larger people?
I don’t think they are suitable for anyone to be honest, especially the white or cream ones. They’re only suitable for show homes.
So this is how I keep old people on the main floor? 😉
I like a good sparkly shirt! I’ve know low profile wasn’t for me since I was 22 and had a Pontiac Firebird. Lol I couldn’t imagine trying to get out of one of them now! I agree with the Smeg appliances. I don’t want to have that on my mind while I’m making my morning coffee. 😂 100% of my Christmas gifts this year were gift cards so I can replace the boob lights in my rental. I like this video idea; would definitely like to see more in the series!
Shirt hits the *perfect* note for the occasion, vocation and visual context _(tats, black background)._
The explanation of rugs and rug fibers is extremely helpful and informative. Thanks for breaking it down.
I really appreciate the clear practical reasoning for each of your decisions on what to buy/avoid. I'd really like this rationale applied to aesthetics that you talk about. In some past videos, you come off as being only in favour of a narrow range of mostly modern aesthetics, but I feel like you'd appreciate a wider range if they were done well.
Have always despised boucle! Love the glitter shirt!
Thank you so much!
Your shirt is the first thing I took notice of. It is breathtaking, and it goes well with the pants you chose!!!!!
OMG … thank you for addressing the low sofa in conjunction with a short frock! I am 6ft & then some in my size 12 heels, 200+ lbs & love a short frock. There is NO way to get off a low couch without everyone noting what I had for breakfast! PS: you’re so sparkly today! Love it!!
How you doin!? 🤣
Design Daddy you're always so impeccably dressed, so wear the sparkles or anything else that makes you happy. Such a sharp dressed man. Thank you for the education this weekend. I was particularly glad to get the information about the light bulbs and the kelvin to make a space look beautiful. XO
The top is amazing! Thanks for another great video!
I had one of those wide wale corduroy couches in the 1970s. It was beautiful for awhile but yes, with two small, active kids.... every crease was full of stuff and the smell never did really come out.
Oh my goodness! Thank you so much. Please continue the series. I'm learning so much.
I worked at a rug cleaning place (not as a rug cleaner) nylon rugs are the way to go for synthetic fabrics. Not a synthetic blend, I mean 100% nylon. They don't get matted with proper annual heat extraction and they're very cleanable.
I prefer a good nylon rug to wool rugs in particular. Years ago, I had to throw out my last wool rug as it became infested with some type of insect.
High quality synthetic or real, natural materials are the way to go.
I like the top you're wearing. Not everyone can pull off that look.
Thank you for leaving the images on the split screen up for a longer amount of time!
I appreciate your realistic reasoning, especially when it comes to big investment pieces.
Very, very useful tips. Thank you so much, particularly for trendy upholstery and artificial fibres rugs. Thank you.
Thanks for posting the lighting scale!
Thank you. That was really informative, especially the advice on natural materials and on lighting.
Love the elegant sparkle top. Thank you for this video , I am shopping for a 10x14 area rug and there are so many price points.I now know what I am looking for.
Price point and quality wise for that size that doesn’t blow the budget, I would say rugs USA! I have a couple of them myself and very impressed
I love your shirt!
And yes! I’d love for this to be a series.
The ultmate chair is the Barsalona chair, if you are short your thighs are not long enough for your legs to hang over and your back to reach the back of the chair, and the angle is such that you have to roll out the side of the chair to get out, they have no arms. A most ungracefull exit.
Now sometimes in light fixture you can find a cheaper mode of an expensive one from my research. Reverse image search is my biggest tool in that.
I found this disk light at Costco and I could change the color temp of the light. My only big flag on it is that the driver can’t be replaced if it goes out. I usually search for ceiling fixtures where the driver is separate from the light. In case the driver goes out you can replace it.
Yes this is another great solution! Just be careful, some “dupes” are like spray painted aluminum when they arrive and a scam. I’ll have to do a separate video on this, for what to look out for
I like the collar on the shirt. Also I like the glam of it. I put a nylon fiber runner with bokhara design on my stairs. I thought it would be durable and read that in time the nylon fiber might get burned by vacuuming. The design is through the fibers not painted on. It has been on the stairs and in the hall since 2010. It has worn very well and I did burn the fiber in a small area but bc that rug is dark red it can’t be seen. It’s a nice pile. I am very pleased with its durability. The guy who put it down was a pro and was able to match corners to the pattern. No easy task with bokhara. Ice work today!
Your outfit is beautiful. I love how you own it. Be proud, Design Daddy!
Yesss please continue with this topic. I found it very informative ❤ thank you ❤ I appreciate your content ❣️
Thanks so much for watching 🤍 have a great Sunday
Your top is what made me watch this vid. Love your POV! Totally agree with you.
Our house was full of boob lights when we purchased and they are the actual worst light! Can't wait to switch them all out one day.
Darlin', you are spot on with this video. I like and agree with every chapter.
This was great! I loved the light bulb chart and explanation.
I really love the deep-set “cloud” sofas and sectionals. I first saw one at HD Buttercup about 15 years ago. The extra pieces that can turn it into a whole lounging or sleeping situation are very cool. However, unless you have a secondary sitting room, i.e., den (a word no one seems to use anymore), family room, great room, movie room, rec room, etc., they are extremely impractical.
They are so deep, a fully grown adult cannot relax and lean against the back without their feet dangling in the air. This is great if it’s your own home; you can take your shoes off, put your feet up, and read or watch the game. But it’s super awkward for guests. They can’t sit comfortably and keep their feet on the floor at the same time.
I would only buy one for a casual secondary sitting room or for the seating area of a huge master bedroom.
Speaking of lights... I purchased some rechargeable gallery type lighting. I was highlighting canvas prints of my dog. (Don't judge me.) Anyway, the lights seemed well constructed and were beautiful, but I found that I had to re-charge them DAILY. They only lasted about 3/4 hours on a charge. In order to re-charge them, I had to remove them from the wall. After a year of that, I'm done. I do have electrical in that wall, but lack the funds to install gallery lighting properly and cords are gross. Now I'm onto "actual battery" operated wall lights. A fancier puck if you will. Fingers crossed. Oh and your shirt is lovely by the way.
I adore these videos . Shirt is kicking ass . Yes keep them coming.
Love from Ottawa
Thanks for always watching! lol I know everyone loves being told what to do, and what not to 🤣
I just love this man's clothes and style, now I acknowledge that they might not work as well on a 'regular' man in the streets but on him they are gorgeous. Oh yeah and please continue this series. Boucle truly sucks and is kinda ugly.
I love you! Great joke. Rolling off furniture is the only way I can get off those low sofas. Being pulled off is embarrassing. 😂
Yes please do the series!!!
I’ve done a few videos like this before, I’ll have to keep it going for sure!
I love your style Phoenix, you inspire me, I want that top! Well all of your tops really 😂 awesome video as always
I love your style. I agree that natural fibers last so much longer in soft pieces. My wool boucle has held up for years and my mohair sofa just looks better with age. My disappointment has been a new wool rug custom sized for my room. I will replace it soon with a vintage rug that is hand tied and vegetable dyed. The new designer rug shows every stain and is so hard to live with.
For people who really like the look and feel of boucle I'd recommend looking into something like an overcoat instead of furniture. You can search for Casentino wool, or boiled wool. Something like an overcoat will also wear down far less over time than a sofa will.
I LOVE your style and you always look amazing! I still want to know where you get those shirts, I love the collar.
Logical and well thought out. 👏👏👏 More please ❤
Your SHIRT! absolutely stunning. 🤩
I am living for the crystal top. I'm a magpie, too! I died at SMEG. Schmegmmmmma!😅
The new chair is stunning but I miss the King Tutsack. ❤😅 Love your videos!
just wanted to say i have a synthetic sheepskin rug as well as one of the synthetic printed low pile rugs, both have been going strong for a long time now. i don't have any of the issues the video mentioned. we even have pet rabbits who have spent their entire lives on the (6'x10') synthetic sheepskin rug and the pile still hasnt begun to clump together or anything like that. it's been through the washing machine many times now as well, we just give it a brush before it dries and have no issues at all!
Do an episode on Canadian furniture stores
Did the L sectional and it was fine for one apt and the house, but I downsized and it was 9'1" wide and the current apt is 9' wide. It had to be angled and after 2 years of trying different positions in the living room I said bye bye to it and purchased a 3 seater sofa.
Oh no! That’s the worst; they are such costly pieces too :(
I would add in the ruggable rugs. They are designed to be washed repeatedly, which us essential with little kids, or in my case, an elderly disabled dog that has accidents frequently. The top woven layer is thin, and you choose the amount of pafding you want on the underlayer.
This was really good, thanks for sharing
I get my REAL Persian WOOL HAND MADE rugs off eBay. Outstanding quality and very inexpensive! I use Gallery 99 and have bought 6 from him. An investment that never wears out or goes out of style! Way cheaper than synthetic rugs too… .
I agree. I got mine off Ebay as well.
I love learning things I wouldn’t have thought of! Thanks Also you look marvelous 😊
Agree with the low profile furniture! My 14 knee surgeries thank you for mentioning this!
The explanations help; a video specifically about kids would be useful, bc a cheap synthetic rug sounds preferable in the dining room, where you have kids spilling everything all the time, but a natural rug like jute is great for say their bedroom.
When it comes to carpets, I would almost always choose a Persian carpet. If you care for the carpets properly, they will last a long time and are very hard-wearing. For care: never vacuum, the air flow ensures that the hair stands up and dirt gets into the under fabric and damages the basic structure of the carpet. Sweeping or brushing the carpet is usually enough to get it clean; you should beat the carpet once or twice a year and wash it about every 2 years. This works very well with cold water, washing powder and a brush. Another advantage of Persian carpets is that they are resistant to dirt due to their material (wool and natural colors) and the workmanship, the more tightly woven the better but also more expensive.
I found your account on Friday and have been binge watching your content! Would love a collab between you and Nick Lewis ❤ awesome for both your design eye and practicality :)
Ps. I love your top. It looks awesome on you ❤
The color matching is a problem in art supplies too. I have seen more than one work of art that looked patchy because of this
I have a toddler, a cat, and a man, with my a white corduroy sectional. Air purifier, bissel little green, and a hand held vacuum are what I’ve been using to keep up with it. 😭 it’s been a year so far and she’s still in good shape.
Thanks for another fabulous video. I really enjoy how you make the practical glamorous.
About the shirt, since you asked, not mad keen about the fit of the sleeves, but love, Love, LOVE the collar and fabric.
In process of buying a rug this cake in so handy thank you
If you get stainless steel appliances, you can purchase those magnetic covers in different colors and change them out when you're in the mood for something different.
I love your shirt ❤❤❤. You always dress nice in your videos but I looooovveee the shirt. Started commenting before you mentioned it 😂.
Very practical and informative information Thank you please continue to educate us it is needed🎉
The top is awesome. I love shiny things 😊
I’m so glad I’m not the only one 💪🏼💪🏼
I’ve bought a cheap lamp shade from Zara Home which I loooved at that time. Now as it is hanging for quite some time, I absolutely hate it and can’t wait to change it into something better.
I love your sparkly shirt 🥰
Thanks for affirming my gut feeling that none of these were good buys
There are modular L-sectionals, you can switch the sides whenever you feel like it. (See King Living Delta Sofa.) 😊
My first thought when I saw this video was, I like that shirt I need that shirt.
New subscriber here. I love your practical and honest approach.
Great thank you Yes please continue
My older uncle fought for his life trying to get out of my grandmother's low sofa which was against the wall. During the struggle, he used the wall for support and his entire arm went through it. Grandma was the only one that didn't laugh. She was madder than hot fish grease which made us laugh even more! 🤣😂
Ooooo SHINY! I LOVE shiny things❤❤❤😊
Can I ask for the watch your are wearing? It matches perfectly with your glitter top 🤌✨
And on-point content, as always 🙏
Love your shirt ❤
Loving the top...and agree 100% with all the items to be avoided...except one.
I gave my toaster to Goodwill:
1. It took up too much space in my small kitchen.
2. It really started to bug me that I could never get it completely clean on the inside.
3. Toast comes out better in the oven and I can melt cheese on it simultaneously.
For sure, pls continue
Thank you for sharing your thoughts about low sofas and chairs! Another consideration about low sofas and chairs … consider older adults!
Do you think the white and gold Cafe appliances look bad or will be dated in a few short years?
Love your videos ❤❤❤❤
Good morning from wetherby England love your outfit plus videos 😅😅
Hubs and I have an L sofa that we actually can swap sides with! I love it; it lends itself to aaaall the lazy evening snuggle time.
All my furniture is chosen so I can vacuum and mop under it. The plus is also being able to sit comfortably in the chairs and sofas.
This was very helpful. Thank you.
I need help with lights. New? Vintage? Matching?
great content!
Do you have a particular brand of non-cheap LED bulbs you recommend which are available for purchase through a non-trade source? That would be so helpful. I struggle with finding bulbs I am ever happy with and agree they can make such a difference, in addition to the fixtures, of course. Visual Comfort is still my go-to lol
I literally talked about how "smeg" is a terrible name for anything that goes in the kitchen, like yesterday 😂
Everything you said was dead on. Although I like the idea of a lot of these, I try to give myself time to think through a major purchase Luckily, I usually come up with your opinion in my head.
Good advice.
Thank you! Boucle is terrible. Just for show. And the courduroy looks 2000s to me because it was popular then.
Corduroy has come and go many times over even before the 2000's. Lol
I think you look beautiful. The haters can F O.
That means more than you know. Thank you 🤍🤍
Our bodies are a temple and I love how he's had his ornamented. 🤘🤘
Love your videos & your humour
I need help. I recently moved to a condo from my home of many years it’s small ! And I have way too much artwork. However my living room has really only one full wall. My couch is against this wall. My kids are encouraging me to put a large & beautiful mirror I have behind this couch. I’m of the opinion a mirror behind a couch is old fashioned (I’m 76) What do you think??
i agree with your video
I have an open floorplan. I like warm design with pops of grey and chrome.
I was planning to do 2700 throughout for consistency. Should the kitchen be 3000 though? Even in an open floorplan? Different temps or same throughout?
People are going to be regretting buying those circular tables with the one stumpy (usually slatted) foot that makes it impossible to comfortably place your legs while sitting at it.
You look fierce king
