Its so wild to me that people are just now getting into playing the game the way it was originally intended. Dont get me wrong im all about playing games however you want to play it but everyone being like "woah forever islands!!!" As if its crazy and unheard of is really baffling lol. I still have my same island ive had since i first bought the game in may of 2020 and i even still have the two starter villagers i began the game with. I have another switch that was gifted to me and i like to reset my game on it every so often to start fresh but really nothing compares to having a long term island where you build relationships with your villagers, collect everything for the museum and just enjoy the game at the slow pace it was intended.

literally i thought that was the default…? in my sims kingdom on ds, i only ever restarted if id taken a break and forgot what i was meant to do next or got stuck fsr.
couldn’t imagine deleting my acnh island tbh, it would feel like wasted time just to lose it forever, the animals, custom art, decorations etc.
i assumed everyone was a “forever” island player until they got bored of their island style (and can’t adjust it quickly) or wanted to play the story from the start for some reason. especially since it’s a game without multiple saves.

The only reason I have had 2 islands is because mine got deleted by accident when transferring switch devices. I have had the lite, normal 2019, and an oled (my current switch, the rest was sold)
The first time, no backup was available via cloud saving on AC, second time as well but the cloud saving backup was retrievable, so I could continue that one.
On the other side, I was glad I could restart my island. I was just chilling there with my villagers and fishing, but sadly I am back at the point of having stress because of decorating lol

ngl ive never really understood how so many people began deleting islands left and right just to build new ones all over, but it's probably because i also grew up with animal crossing the "old fashioned way" and the only time ive ever deleted a town i regretted it SO much. my new horizons island ive had almost since day 1 (i got the game like one or two days late lol) and its still constantly changing because i flatten so often, but i prefer doing that than just deleting it. it kinda sucks that playing the game how animal crossing is supposed to be is mostly an afterthought now, but ig it also does kinda make sense since it was so barebones for the longest time (and its still missing a ton of features older games had...) but in the end im glad people are finally turning around and seeing it as more than just a decoration sim

Thank you for this. I keep getting sucked into all the cool looking designer islands, and I can watch people do that forever. But whenever I try to do it to my island, I stop myself, thinking 'but if I do that, my villager can't get to work.' or 'I can't chop trees like this' or 'people are gonna get lost if the roads aren't straight.' Like I know I'm being silly, but I love my villagers and I want my island to feel more like home with art in it, instead of an art piece with a house somewhere in it.

My first island since the launch of New Horizons is my forever island. I've finally "finished" it in 2023. After I completed decorating it, I took a 5 month break (I played it every day for hours, since March 20th 2020) and when I came back, I caught all the bugs, fish and deep sea creatures that I didnt catch during the previous 3 years of playing. I didnt time travel to do it, I just patiently waited until the month/season then logged back on to catch it. It actually felt more fulfilling than time traveling to catch them.

I swear, having a forever island is worth it. Doing everything at your own pace, having villagers you actually want without needing to fit in a theme and not stressing about having the "perfect aesthetic island" is amazing. Til some time ago i used to get so stressed out with Animal Crossing, because i wanted to have all the popular villagers only because people liked it, and this made me burn out frequently, now i only have villagers i love, no matter how unpopular or "ugly" they are. I also don't care about aesthetic anymore, i will put whatever i feel like in my island. It feels way more like home like that. Playing like this made me appreciate Animal Crossing even more, and the game is actually chill as it was supposed to be.

i’m a chronic resetter, but not for decorating purposes, but because i stop playing and feel like i need a “fresh start” once i get back into the game. i’ve done this for all the animal crossing games i’ve played but i always end up regretting it! i recently made an island again and i aim to not reset, even if i haven’t played in a while and just chill and play the game normally, cause i sometimes get caught up in making the most money or paying off my house immediately. but i find it kinda funny how the ac community has terms like “forever island” and “normcore island” like these are novel concepts for animal crossing games lol! but it makes me happy people are trying the game as the devs intended, i hope they find really fun and relaxing!
and i love your island theme! i have always wanted to make a forestcore island but never was able to in all of my islands, i hope with my current one i can finally achieve it!

i can rlly relate to what you’ve said! as someone who used to delete their new leaf island, when I felt like it didn’t go as I planned to, I got caught up in this „don’t like it anymore? haven’t been around for a while? well, just re-start it!“ mindset and it transferred to acnh as well. I’ve regretted that multiple times, but sometimes in that specific moment it just feels like the right decision.
I also intend to not delete my current islands anymore :) I would say, I’m the kind of person who doesn’t trust the process of my island, so when there’s something that I was really unsatisfied with, I always resetted that.
Til this day I remember my first new leaf island! I really miss it 😭 And I don’t want this feeling again

I'm new to ACNH and thought that "forever islands" were the normal type of island tbh. I don't even know how to have multiple islands haha but still appreciate the concept and LOVE your Forever island a lot. I'm taking inspiration from it as I'm creating my own island :)

    • @iXsayXtaylorXyouXsayXswift
      @iXsayXtaylorXyouXsayXswift 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Most people don’t have multiple islands, but if they do they used more than 1 switch. Majority just get their island to 3/5 stars (you’ll learn about stars later) and looking nice, reset and repeat the process. I’ve only reseted once and I actually am happy with my island now in terms of villagers and the placement of some things. So, forever islands are great but you can reset too!

    • @mfraye12
      @mfraye12 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

They are the normal type of island. I only see this "forever island" terminology in ACNH content creator communities where people quickly "complete" islands and treat them like individual art pieces, save the DA, and then start over with a new idea. Which, btw, is totally fine if people like to play that! I'm always in awe of the beautiful themed islands people create. But the "normal" way to play the game is to just have one island, where you play a little every day, form connections with your villagers, and casually decorate at whim based on your personal preferences. That is why the game only allows one save file. The intent of the Animal Crossing series is to simulate a community. The dev of the original Animal Crossing game had the idea after moving to the a new city and feeling lonely. He wanted to create an experience where people can play the game and feel like they belong and have friends there. It actually makes me a little sad seeing new players think the normal way to play is to hyperfixate on a "theme" for an island and decorate every single tile. A ton of my friends play ACNH and we all still have our islands we made in March 2020. I highly recommend, if you're able to, try ACNL on the 3DS and experience the real magic of Animal Crossing. You can't place furniture outside in that game. Though you can decorate with flowers, trees, and makeshift paths, it makes you value the peaceful nature of the game where you do some tasks while catching up with your villagers.

With NH, the game has reached a lot of people, which is fantastic, but I've always felt like the pure and naive Animal Crossing vibe was missing and gone. So many perfect islands just to get the "perfect aesthetic" as you say and then move on... Too much anxiety for me, while I play the game to just unwind and truly enjoy. Resetting was the best thing I could have done, I'm not as burnt out anymore and I'm excited to play again. This one will be my last one likely because I feel excited to make a cozy farming island, a mash up of my two favorite game genres. It's also been tough restarting because there isn't as much help as there used to be. So I'm gonna grind a lot of things but there's other things I may not do. Like getting that 100 fish in a row streak, fishing is the bane of my existence.

I kept starting over because I kept hating something about my island 😆
The first island had RS super close to the airport, but diagonal. If you walked straight north from the airport you'd just hit the bottom right corner of RS after a few steps and I couldn't stand it anymore.
Second island had the airport all the way to the left and RS in the center of the map, which I thought I liked but quickly grew tired of the fact that I couldn't make nice big entrances, especially symmetrical entrances because the beach on the left was so close.
Can't even remember what annoyed me about the third one, just wasn't feeling it.
I had turned it into a mess with terraforming I didn't like, didn't feel like flattening everything and I missed the cute beginning with the tents and stuff so I figured I'd just start over.. again.
The fourth one had the airport and RS lined up, the peninsula shape I like best and other great things! ...But the airport was orange and I just disliked that too much. I played it for about a month, thinking I'd get over it but.. nope.
So finally, I reset for 5 days straight, almost non-stop, hours and hours each day to find an island I knew I would be happy with. And I did ♥ Last October.
It's still not finished, but I'm having fun ☺
And then 2 nights ago, I had a nightmare that I had restarted again and regretted it TERRIBLY and missed my current island so much 🤣 Yes, I literally dreamed that, lol.

Both my New Leaf and New Horizons saves are there from when I started (New Leaf: December 2019, New Horizons: March 2021)
Fun fact, the very first day I played New Horizons, I was running around with a net, and I fainted from a tarantula. Not even kidding. I can look on my NM app and see March 3, 2021 as my first day AND the day I got Faint of Heart.

I’ve started a few new islands over the years (mostly related to the fact I’m trans & changed my name- but also partly me wanting a fresh start lol). I now have 1 island on my Switch and 1 on my Switch Lite, I’m restarting my Switch one soon (because it has my deadname 😢) but I think the Switch Lite one is here to stay now.

I have my same island from 2020! I actually started playing with my daughter in 2020 and she lost interest in about a month so I restarted and now the island I have has been the same since. It’s undergone quite a few renovations but I still have my starter villagers and when HHP came around I renovated their homes.

I think nothing compares with playing the weeks after release day 🥰 I bought the oled zelda switch when it released and started a second island - well technically my 3rd one because I played a couple months on a map I ended up hating and then over a year on my second island
With my 3rd, the OLED one, I finally created a forever island I think. I still struggle with perfectionism 😂 but I think we're doing well over on Port Auris 🥰 I'm pretty sure I will continue enjoying this island until the next AC will air :)

as someone with undiagnosed adhd/autism i often got hyperfixated with animal crossing then after a few months i would burn myself out and drop the game. i would get so overwhelmed that i would reset and do it all over again. last week i started a new island and i promised myself i would never reset again. i’d like to think this video popping up in my feed is a good sign.

I had my first island when the game first came out. And I didn't play nearly as much as other people. But I finished my island in a year and then I stopped playing until February of 2022. Originally I wanted to start playing again because of the update, but also wanted to start a new island because my old island just wasn't great. All my houses were in one section and it felt like I never went to some parts of the island. Plus I finished my museum. So I restarted my island completely. I played for about 4 months and stopped playing again until recently. I thought about deleting my island again, but decided I was just going to stick with the one I currently have. I have even started decorating more than I would have on my old island. The only problem now is..... my flowers have gotten out of control lol.

I’m so upset, I spent years on my island on my switch lite. My husband bought me a new OLED so I gave the lite to my daughter who has been dying for her own island and she immediately started it. I didn’t realize I needed the island transfer tool… it’s gone forever! It’s not her fault I didn’t transfer it over and I’m kinda excited to start over again but I forgot how much work I put in with a years worth of bugs and fishing in the museum and all my villager hunts and ACTUAL MONEY spent 😢. I loved my island and my villagers and all my villager photos. It’s ok, there’s much worse things in life but man it got my way more upset that I realized it would lol. But I’m having a ton of fun helping my daughter learn to play and starting her little island. It’s a great rainy or cold day mother/daughter activity. She’s 4 so she needs a lot of help but she does surprisingly well.

I get the idea of creating animal crossing content but I also have had my one island since 2020 and it changes constantly. I change areas seasonal or if I get bored of what I'm seeing in an area I just rip it down and start that area over. I couldn't imagine being like "It's perfect.... annnnnnd delete"

My current island is a forever island in the sense of: I restarted a few times, but this one in particular has stuck with me
My thing now is, I tried so hard to try and follow other ACNH creators in terms of themes. I've been wanting to go back into it because my style and sense of self had changed. Every time I go through a change, I feel compelled to play AC. But, I'm not sure how to evolve my island into what I envision...

I don't have new horizons but new leaf and wild world and in new leaf I still have the same town I created in 2014 and when I don't like anything anymore I can just change it but I would never delete my whole town because I put so much work in it.
But I once resetted my town in wild world. It was my big sisters town and I spontaniously thought I should make my own town after she gifted me her nintendo ds with the game. Now I regret it because I can never reach the last update for the supermarket because you need another player to visit your island and buy something from tom nook. Well nobody I know has this game because it's so old and for whatever reason I can't connect it with my wlan (even though I can with new leaf) so I can't even find someone online to help me with this 🙃
