What a fantastic idea of starting with a hunt for clues. I’ve been to the Polar Express in Ashboro, NC and had a wonderful time. We even had ordered the Polar Express pajamas to wear! The kids will remember this treasure for the rest of their lives!
Cannot believe you'd never been on a train Shelley! I know its a country by country thing but here in the UK I get trains literally all the time! Sounds so fun for the little kids though!
I'm from Peru and when I went to Denmark at 24 years old I had only been on a train once (train to Machu Picchu in my senior year class trip). So yep, they aren't common in other countries.

When my kids were smaller we took them to the Polar Express and did a scavenger hunt. I do presents for my clues beginning with pjs and ending at the train ride. I even made a memory nook with the pics I took. We had such a great time.

The long bit at the back slips into the inside of the shirt 🙂 in alot of secondary schools in england we have to wear a tie as part of our uniform. You are great parents, what amazing memories being made x
Hey Shelley and Crystal, I've loved all of your family videos. Your entire family members are so compassionate and loving with one another. I know your families multi-task and have a lot of events. I think it's great watching episodes and seeing the children responding to different situations. Because both families are affluent, I was wondering what values are being taught to the children concerning less fortunate people? I had three children ( now adults in their forties), we were middle class and very family oriented as well. My children twice yearly, cleaned out their toy selections, donating the toys to missions, neighbors, etc. During the summertime in preparation for Christmas season, my children would do odd jobs for neighbors, saving up to purchase gifts at a later date. Then when the Christmas season came around, the children would dig into their savings and purchase gifts for a family who was in need......it was done anonymously of course. Or, sometimes we would contact our pastor finding out about a church family who had needs around the holidays. My children found pleasure, excitement, contentment, and their self esteem flourished as they experienced giving of themselves to someone on need. Again, everything was handled anonymously to ensure safety and prevent embarrassment all around. Our family served meals a couple times during the holidays at local missions. We would also gather hygiene items and make up lunch bags and drinks to be handed out to anyone in hunger....of course we ( adult men and women, pre-teen and teen children) did this in a safe area during the daytime , always stayed together and was very aware of our surroundings at all times. During all seasons, our preteen and teenage children would make a point to do a free chore for someone in need, be it mowing yard, raking leaves, shoveling snow, walking or caring for an animal or whatever might be needed. For safety reasons, we had code words only our family knew. We had rules and guidelines followed for the children's comfort level and safety. My family was in no way perfect and mistakes were made. We did strive to be Jesus' extended hands by giving of our time and resources. Everyone can give to someone in need.... a friendly smile, a nice hi, looking the person in the eye to acknowledge their presence, and opening a door for a stranger while entering or exiting a building. Also donating money to a needy person by forfeiting the donut or coffee you usually enjoy 😉. Christmastime is a time for giving. We all made coupons for each family member, agreeing to do a chore, etc. for the person receiving the coupon. Especially during the holidays, we would do secret things for one another such as....making someone's bed while they were out of their room, or doing one of their chores. We also made a habit of having family night once a week with games, movies, singing, etc. Before we started the entertainment we went around and named each family member by expressing a positive thing about the person. Here in the UK at my boys school all children have to wear shirt and proper tie as part of their school uniform from age 4 when starting full time school in reception class. X
A tie was part of my uniform when I was in secondary/high school (in Australia) so tying a tie is a skill I have known most of my life. It seems weird to me when other folk have trouble with ties.

We have an actual experience where you go the polar express train and end up at the North Pole up in northern NH! We did this as a kid and I loved it! My parents suprised us when we were up north they placed it under our pillows ans we found it when we woke up this was over 10 years ago and I remember it all! We showed up to the train late at night in our pajamas and they did the hot chocolate dance and all!

My all time favorite thing to do is polar express activities when I was preschool teacher. We made crafts and watch the movie and had cookies and hot coco.
The polar express is so much fun! On the ride to the north pole they read the Polar Express and you get hot cocoa and a cookie. You do not get off at the North pole but Santa comes on the train and you all sing Christmas carols on the way back. We will be going the week of Christmas!

My son is 37 years old and every Christmas eve since the book first came out, his father or I will read the book to him, and more than once the book has been read over a phone because we were not together on Christmas eve, but he always has hot cocoa with marshmallows and every year we all hear the ringing of the bells. How far do you have to go to get on the polar express train? we have one in new Hampshire and it is so wonderful! hope the kids (and moms) have an amazing time!
