Sushi chef for 7 years here🙋🏽♀️ Jared, if you just don’t like the seaweed, ask the restaurant to use soy paper OR rice paper! These options are almost flavourless! All sushi must be rolled with seaweed, whether it’s on the exterior of the roll or inside: it still is seaweed! So if you ask for another option, you will only taste the sushi ingredients; which you like!
Well done Shelly, you really kept a open mind. Some surprised you, some were okay but not what you would eat again, then finally some that were yuck. Blessings.
Love beets! The golden beets are a little sweeter. Try them fresh instead of canned. Canned veggies usually have an unpleasant aftertaste. Nisha Vora has an incredible roasted beet and fennel salad.
Cauliflower tossed in olive oil and sea salt and roasted in the oven around 400-415 until crispy is so good! I don’t like raw cauliflower but roasted is a game changer!
Yes same here! I do not like most raw veggies, especially raw mushroom, broccoli and cauliflower. Cooking those in butter, salt and pepper is how I eat these.
Thanks for the effort and for sharing Shelly and Jared! Good outcome. If you don't fancy a food, try to cook it at home following another recipe. Works wonders for beets and egg nog. From tapioca/ cassave roots you can make delicious chips! I like all food you tried, in different forms and recipes. Caramelised nuts or seeds as topping or coating of ice cream and tapioca desserts.
12:14 Shelly I’m with you!!! I had one of my ribs removed to help build a jaw bone for me. It did not work. I can’t eat a lot of meat and I stay far away from ribs!
Shelly when you picked up the sushi and the seaweed hung down and you said “ What Is That!? You made me burst out laughing so hard at your reaction! 😂🤣 I also don’t eat most sushi, or taki’s, raisins, red velvet cake, or beets. I do really like cottage cheese, ice cream with nuts, and egg nog, but you eat things I would never eat like onions green peppers and tomatoes! You did great today!
@@Stanesby2 It's delicious also as a "gratin", baked in the oven with a cheese topping. But other options are to pickle them with carrots for a side with bbq or tossed in a salad. Or make tempura of veggies.
My favorite ice cream is chocolate peanut butter but second is rocky road. With you on the mint thing. That taster is for my toothpaste. I don't like candy canes either. Nope on the beets but my mother loves them mainly pickled though. With red dye about to be outlawed in the USA, the juice will start appearing in thousands of products as a replacement. Funny as my favorite "adult" cereal is raisin brand also though I DO eat the raisin in it and like you not a fan of them at all! They just hit different in the cereal for some weird reason. THOUGH, I have recently discovered yogurt covered raisins in a nut mix that was given to me and they are really good!! In my defense I am not a grape fan either so there is that also. Tapioca pudding is a no for me also! Reminds me of fish eggs and don't want that in my pudding! LOL! Good job and another fun video!!
Love beets! My grandparents grew them in their garden, and made pickled beets...so good! Love them in a salad, also. Pistachio Almond is my favorite ice cream, but Butter Pecan is pretty good.
Pickled beets are way better! And as far as ice cream goes...I LOVE all kinds! 😂 Well mint eh I could go without! Ok back to the video! Lots of Love from NC✌🏼💜🤗 Oh and for cottage cheese, I prefer it with salt and pepper!😋
I’m with you.. I am not a fan of raisins! I love cauliflower roasted in the oven at 425 for 30mins with salt! A video suggestion, would be fun to have both of your moms on and see who knows y’all better! ❤
Well done Shelly for facing your fear. Beetroot is a NZ staple for all salads and even with burgers. I just love a good feed of beetroot!. I am with you on the sushi...Like you I have tried and found it awful and yes its the seaweed that gets me the most...yuk! Eggnog was a treat in our house when us kids were sick. Mum would make us eggnog to give us all that we needed even if we didn't feel like eating. Raw cauliflower with a nice dip or cooked cauliflower with a nice cheese sauce in the winter always goes down well. Like you I don't do spicy...in fact chilies make my mouth swell ...I don't blame you for not wanting to eat the talkies. I am pleased to see that you found some things that you did like...especially the tapioca!
At the beginning of the year, I had a kidney transplant and ate very little for months before transplant. My whole taste changed drastically. Things I loved before surgery like hummus, made me gag afterwards. Its so funny about you and the beets, my hubby knew I hated them(even though I barely tasted it as a child) I finally took a bite and was so shocked that I really liked them. Lol I have a thing about textures of food, it may have a good taste but if it feels funny in my mouth. I won't eat it again. YEA for you and me with the beets!!!
Maple walnut ice cream, fried beets with butter onions, and dill. Cottage cheese with salt and pepper and green onion. I'm with you on the sushi and tapioca. Raisins are good only in oatmeal and carrot cake. Red velvet cake is delicious. Really enjoyed your video glad you were able to try new things all over again love you guys
I LOVE beets. BUT Only non-pickled beets. I Love just warm cooked beets with a little butter, salt, and pepper! Also pecans are my fave! Candied pecans on salad, pecan pie, just roasted too!
First of all I like beets. Try them pickled sometime if you like pickles. Shelly and I agreed or felt the same about some. I dont like egg nog or tapioca. Love raisins. I wish I could fix cauliflower for you. This was fun. I enjoy your family. 😀
Great job, Shelly. One of the things we had to eat growing up was liver and onions. Brussel sprouts was another. YUCK. I am not a picky eater, but I will not eat those two things. I love Havard Beets( these are pickled).
Chocolate chip ice cream. Beets yes. Can’t have spicy foods. Egg nog is good. Cauliflower dipped in ranch. BBQ ribs so good.I am like Mindee, German chocolate cake. Cottage cheese with a tomato slice. Sushi nope. Raisins are good. Rice pudding is good. Enjoyed❤
Shelley, Your reaction to the red velvet cake made my laugh!!!😂 My mom, who was in foster care in the 1930's, made my sister red velvet cake every year for her birthday!!! And, my mom used to put cottage cheese on bread, sprinkled with paprika, and then broiled it.
Cauliflower raw I’s good with some dip or hummus, but I like it sautéed with broccoli and some seasonings. Also @Jared I love love love eggnog as well.
My dad’s mom live next door my whole life. We grew up next-door to my memaw and she used to make homemade tapioca all the time. I didn’t like it as a kid, but I got my teens and I love tapioca pudding, but I can’t find one that taste as good as me so I don’t normally buy the stuff they sell at the store.
I am proud of you Shelly! I am super picky a mix of textures and tastes. Eggnog, yogurt, gravy, tapioca, cottage cheese all no. Not just gravy but sauces in general and that includes all soups lol not partial to pasta. One might think I starve but really it leaves more food for everyone else.
I agree with you Shelly that nuts don't belong in ice cream. I do love me some moose tracks or anything blue bunny. growing up to keep us kids away from his tapioca my dad said that it has fish eggs in it. til this day I cant even fathom taking a bite. so kudos to you for trying. and Annie was too cute in the video today. BTW water makes the spice spread. you want either dairy or bread to take the sting away.
I love beets but only have them a few times a year. Pickled beets are even better, and I don't like vinegar. You can make a christmas breakfast with eggnog and a few more eggs 4 more for 1/2 a loaf of bread, but the bread into bread bit size. You then soak it for minimum of 30 minutes then put in either 9 by 13 or muffin pan then a little more cinnamon on top.
For those that do not like beets, try roasting them in the oven or on grill wrapped in tinfoil. I made these for people who despised beets, and ended up loving them this way. Google recipe for roasted beefs, then see if you like them. They are so good.
Here in Sweden beetroot salad is common for Christmas. It’s like beets and mayo and sometimes crème fraiche. I didn’t like it until my mid 20s or something. Now it’s a must for Christmas and often other times too. Especially with meatballs. Extra good on sandwich with meatballs. Yum =)
In Australia we do roasted beetroot salad, I'm not sure if it's classically Aussie or if it originated from somewhere else but we put roasted beetroot, feta and toasted almonds or pine nuts with a vinegarette dressing
I grew up hating cottage cheese, when I was pregnant with my second baby, I craved it. Now I love it...try some with french dressing on it, soooo good. Oh and fisheye(tapioca) pudding is the best
I love pickled beets but not others I LOVE eggnog, we can't find it here in Ireland, I am tempted to make my own i love tapioca yum good for both of you trying foods again. I said to my hubs we should do this also!

We boil cauliflower for a couple of minutes, drain it and eat it while still hot, with olive oil and salt. Yummy!! 😍

Vanilla eggnog is awesome! Not as thick as regular eggnog.
I agree ice cream doesn’t need nuts, and for me, it also doesn’t need chunks of fruit.
Tapioca pudding is yummy. My mom, when making apple pie, would sprinkle tapioca in the bottom and a little over the apples. It acted like a thickener. Best pies!
Raisins are amazing I add it to my porridge every morning ❤
I have a friend that loves beets on a salad bar. My mom likes them too. My taste buds are like Shelly's. I can do black pepper or spice (especially on chips).
