    Seriously impressive how you understand how it all works and diagnose

    • @EarthSurferUSA
      @EarthSurferUSA หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Basically, if the engine is in good mechanical operation, all you need is 3 things to run.
      1) Enough compression to lite the charge.
      2) Spark at the right time.
      3) A good air/gas ratio for the fuel you are running.
      If the engine is sound mechanically, it will run. If compression is good, and it sparks at the right time (strong enough spark too. It takes more energy to jump the plug gap when in the cylinder under compression/turbulence, and you can be fooled by a outside spark check.), then the carburetor is all that is left.

    Good folks in the comments section. All he did with the carb is rig the o-ring seal, and I am sure he has replaced it with the proper o-ring by now. There was no carb adjustment (jetting, float height), that we saw here, but he did mention moving the needle clip to a more lean groove. 2-stroke engines with a carb are always sold new on the rich side, and they all can benefit from carb tuning. My 2019 YZ250 2-stroke is the worst I have ever seen (MXA said it was good jetting). So far, I have gone more lean on every jet (Pilot, needle replacement to a more lean needle, (ran out of grooves), and a more lean main jet and a more lean power jet. I still have to go one more needle lean, as it is still rich in the middle. But it runs much better now, warns up the coolant much faster. I will be 80% of the YZ250s out there wit the stock jetting also have damaged pistons, because the water takes so long to warm up, (may not even get the engine to a good operating temp), riders will take off too early with the piston crown expanding from the heat, but the cylinder is not expanding fast enough.

    I could’ve never imagined that a two stroke starting up first kick without choke on a cold engine was a bad thing. 2 stroke music never gets old

    Im happy to see you still have the trusty ol kdx200 i would love to see some new videos on the old kdx i wish i could find a 93-94 kdx200 front end to put on my old 92 kdx200 ive got to do crank seals on mine after 2 years the left side crank seal on my kdx finally gave out so i guess ill split the cases this winter. I wish i had a parts bike like the one you had a few years ago when you were building yours.

    • @EarthSurferUSA
      @EarthSurferUSA หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't think you need to split the cases to change crank seals. I have prick punched 2 small holes in the old seal, and used a puller (using sheet metal screws) to get them out. But it may not be a bad idea to split the cases to put in new bearings.

      I try not to buy from communism of china as much as I can. Harbor Freight is a communist product retailer "O-Rings West" has any ring you need, but not sure where they are all made. We are going broke in the USA because free enterprise and communism are not compatible. Our federal government gave our free enterprise to communism so it can fund itself starting in 1978. Now, it is taking over the USA. Still a good deal to you?

    Those mikuni carbs with the main jet in that bolt and relying on the o-ring can be a persistent issue. I have always just moved the main jet from the special bolt to where the brass fitting that has the o-ring goes screws into. Those carbs were just designed that way for quick main jet swaps. If you move the main jet like I said it saves a huge headache and eliminates future issues.

      I don't think that is gravel on the paved roads, just another road in the USA wearing out. I guess the taxes we pay to "fix the roads" is being spent elsewhere.

    • @Nevir202
      @Nevir202 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ I agree, that's why I didn't say they were gravel roads, I said they were gravel-y.
      Which is exactly what roads are like when the asphaltic binder starts to break down releasing the sand and gravel the asphalt is primarily made up of.

    Has anybody older school noticed that MXA magazine is pretty much devoid of technical knowledge today? They don't know how to jet a carburetor at all. I can go through the mag today (especially on 2-strokes) with a red pen like a teacher correcting a test. I especially enjoyed a flywheel weight explanation, that said they do not consume power, (they do under acceleration, because mass takes energy to accelerate), and can actually add HP, (they do when braking or decelerating). My goodness! They are not even sharp enough to understand they need to sue their schools. I don't buy the sales brochure called MXA anymore. A hollow shell of what it used to be a generation ago. Doug in Michigan
    PS. No, they can not fix this bike. :)
