    Chemical resistance tests have always been pretty much pointless to me on spray sealants. They're too easy to influence, and too easy to apply to really matter. Find one that is easy to apply, reasonably priced and that fits your needs, and don't worry about it. Top it and send it!

    The way I see it, there's different forms of durability: temporal (time), mechanical (agitation), and chemical. Being durable in one category doesn't mean it's durable in another (eg. TW Seal n Shine is highly chemical resistant, average mechanical resistance but doesn't hold up as well over time). And even within chemical durability, some sealants are resistant to some chemicals but susceptible to others (Beadcoat resists high pH well but only moderately resistant to low pH).

      @miscellaneous5215 I applied Collinite Beadcoat on one half of my outside-kept vehicle, and Xpel Ceramic Boost on the other half. After 2 months the Xpel is starting to fail while the Beadcoat is still going strong with about a 90 to 100 degree water contact angle

    Thank you for the video! We to have done this test and Clean Spray Sealant is a good option, but we never get that result with CSS. For us ADS CSS is VERY hydrophobic. Full transparency, ADS was easier to apply and more hydrophobic, Clean was more durable and slightly more slick under the towel. Either way, can't go wrong in a real world scenario.

    • @OrthodoxChristian27
      @OrthodoxChristian27 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If I understand correctly, you said Clean is VERY hydrophobic, but ADS is even MORE hydrophobic?

    • @djmayoADS
      @djmayoADS 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @ both are good, but in terms of strictly “beading” ADS was better on the handful of cars we have done side by side on.

      I tripled checked everything afterwards, my bottle seems ok, has a distinct scent. I have no clue what happened, i certainly did not expect that. Bad batch maybe? I'll have to give another go once I get this panel polished I doubt your sealant would wash off like this.

    I'm doing a series of real-world durability tests on Armour's Ceramic Spray Sealant vs Ryan West Industries Fusion. I need to re-start it though, because the bottle of Armour was old and did not perform well at the first wash. I have a brand new bottle and I'll be re-applying both sealants after I polish the hood and prep it.
    The "torture" tests are more or less a waste of time and material, but it's entertaining. The test I'll be doing is applying both sealants, waiting at least a few days before any chemical hits it, then doing a first wash, then driving the car through the winter months in Wisconsin and doing weekly/bi-weekly washes. As soon as one sealant clearly fails, I'll put the winner against another sealant and so on. That is a real world test and how they SHOULD be tested.

    • @Detailing_Dogma
      @Detailing_Dogma  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey brodz I just got on your channel and watch your video, I dont think my water behaviour was much different then yours, I was hoping you to wash it so we could have compared. Not sure if mine is v1 or v2 I got it in around May I believe.
      I also agree with the real world test which my channel is all about as well. They are harder to capture and present to the audience and longer to edit.
      See you in the next one ✌️

    • @Brodizzle83
      @Brodizzle83 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oofta! Armour flat-out failed right after one wash with Reset? That also doesn't seem right.
      Thanks for checking out my video! I didn't capture footage of me polishing, prepping and applying the sealants because it was late at night and I wanted to get it done. I did, however, wash it in the video with Ethos Hybrid rinseless wash. Then the hydrophobics afterward was showing that the Fusion clearly had stronger hydrophobics than ADS. Both DJ and Brad said something isn't right with the bottle I used (not any fault of mine). I had a friend provide me with a new bottle straight from Armour and came in the mail last Saturday, so I will be doing a new video showcasing a light polish on the hood, prepping it and re-applying both sealants this weekend. I'll keep the car in the garage and do a hydrophobic test after 24 hours. After that, i'll do a weeks worth of driving to work and back (at least 320 miles) and do a first wash (I'll either use a rinseless or pH neutral soap), then another hydrophobics test. All of that will be in one video, so expect a new video within the next few weeks. I'll probably do a bi-weekly wash and hydrophobics video after the first wash and go until there is a clear failure of one of the sealants.

      @@Brodizzle83 The only thing I can say is that no one on TH-cam seems to get consistent results from spray sealants, especially water based products vs solvent carriers. I suspect they are very sensitive to prep, temperature, humidity, etc.

    Soap and apc at max, it's all the resistance i need from a sealant. I would never use wheel cleaner on the paint, nor other harsh chemicals and if I do need, I know I will have to apply new layer of protection, so I also don't understand the whole chemical resistance. I use a sealant which I like the looks of it and I know it's weak vs high PH products, but with just regular wash (I wash every 1-2 weeks) it holds for 2-3 months easily.

    Winters in Atlantic Canada are tough on any paint protection, I have tried many of the ceramic sprays/spray sealants on the market and haven't found any that last more than 4 months over the winter. To be honest, I think 4 months is an acceptable result from simple spray sealants given their cost.

    Great presentation Frank. You bring up some really valid points here and some things I never thought of before. One of which is the Adams Wheel & Tire Cleaner being such a high PH product. I had no idea it was a PH of 13.5. I have been using that stuff for the last three years and it's a great wheel and tire cleaner, but unfortunately, it's probably been stripping off my wheel sealant! I need to change up my wash procedure and just use either plain ole' soap in a bucket to clean my wheels, or a PH neutral wheel cleaner unless the high PH of Adams Wheel and Tire is needed. Thanks for pointing out those facts. I definitely want to try out Pan's products, especially the Spray Sealant, Spray Polish, and Rinseless wash. With the strong chemical resistance of Pan's Spray Sealant, that would make a great wheel sealant also.

    • @brianr749
      @brianr749 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That's what this video taught me as well - that my wheel coating is definitely gone by now from Adams wheel&tire. Good to know.

    • @Detailing_Dogma
      @Detailing_Dogma  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Thank you Joe, when the wheels are coated you can do a mild pre-wash just like the paint and rinse, then use your favorite car shampoo or diluted APC but yeah anything with too high degreasing capacities will slowly eat the coating. Adams is way overkill for regular maintenance like we do, washing 1 to 4 times a month. Keep it when get to clean the neglected cars. If you want to use it up you can also heavily dilute the Adams it should be no problem for light duty. Happy to see you again, appreciate you.

Yeah, I have been pretty much going at it with a much higher PH than I realized but do to your informative video, I will be correcting that issue from now on. Also, a drawback for me to this new product is the fact it can only be bought from one supplier. I'd keep polishing and paint prep for Solvent based ceramics. By all means if you have a panel prep and want the most out of your sealant application use the paint prep, it's a good insurance. Definitely a reason I’m glad I found your channel early on.
    I personally don’t have much use for spray scellants. I prefer for a little bit more work to go for a full blown ceramic coating and benefit for the coatings life.
    I tend to run away from any of the drama that has come from Pan’s original video. I now look for the more educational channels.

      Hey John, thank you for tuning in my friend. Before making the video I made sure those products could handle it. Armour is 24hours with chemicals as per their website. You have a valid point but spray sealants dont bond the same way solvent ceramic coating do. Most sealant are fully cured within a few hours. Both products in the video had the same procedure.

    So far on YT, Pan's Ceramic Spray is 0-1 vs Griot's, 1-0-1 vs DIY Detail Ceramic Boost, and 1-0 vs ADS Ceramic Sealant.
    Autoglym and Wolfgang Uber both have wins over Griot's, while quite a few products have wins over DIY and ADS. So safe to say Pan's is among the mid to top tier, but not obviously the best.

    Mmm not so sure about the negativity about chemical tests… For me there is nothing worse than detailing the car one week to then wash all the work off next week. Your test clearly shows what happens to a lot of us! You did everything correctly and just shampooed off the ADS sealant! It’s crazy. I need to use a strong cleaner in winter, I use Touchless and it washes away so many products. Also I hope this is ok to say but you called out other reviews of Pans product but in the very same test ADS just washed off. So why couldn’t the same thing happen to another reviewer when they trying Pans product? Please understand I don’t care about Pan or ADS I’m just trying to be fair. Companies always tell us that we did the prep wrong but you didn’t. I wonder how much variation there is from batch to batch of a chemical. It might well be that some companies have better quality control than others but we won’t know as it’s all blamed on user error. Sorry for long post!

    • @Detailing_Dogma
      @Detailing_Dogma  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Trifin you've got a good point my friend, I get it. When I planned the video and then executed it, things turned out a little bit different like it often does. I havent seen true sealant wash off like this in my experience.
      I picked the armour to show that spraying heavy degreasers on sealants would affect both, not just Pan, which is to be expected but like i said it turned out differently.
      The videos I was referring to just looked like they were rigged to display a poor performance from a Pan product.
      I dont think it was a batch problem as ADS confirmed this batch is performing well in their test, right now I dont have any answer for you why this happened.
      Finally knowing Pan I highly doubt his sealant would wash off or deteriorate in just few car washes so like I mentioned in the intro I needed to test it my self.
      Thanks for your feedback.
