@GregBroDudeMan black bottom pools where you can’t see through the water are equally as terrifying as the ocean. It’s a pool, so you know nothing’s in there…but you can’t see through it ….so how can you be sure ….
Same here. I can go diving in light water, look at a big shipwreck, and be fine. But if I dive into a swimming pool and it’s so deep the water is dark at the bottom? No way am I swimming in the deep end lol.
4:07 I actually know this house. I don’t remember the name of it, but it’s in Maryland. The backstory as to why there is a random house in the water is that there used to be this whole island in the Chesapeake with a small town on it. As the water rose, it slowly consumed the island and took every house with it, except that one. I don’t know if it is still standing today, but, if it is it’s probably just a collapsed roof.

I can trace where my thalassophobia must have began with when my family got taken out onto the boat of my dad's friend out into the Gulf of Mexico. It was going to be a day trip of fishing, swimming and fun, and the first time I was out on the water. Little things kept happening all day, such as us catching a baby hammerhead shark which let my 4-5 year old brain know these were shark infested waters, and being that young, I had sharks as something I was majorly scared of. Because it's always things like sharks and quicksand and whirlpools that we all are convinced are bigger problems than we are thanks to cartoons and movies. Next, while swimming, both of my parents got horribly stung by jellyfish. They'd swam right into a group of them. That was the first time I saw my parents in excruciating pain, both of them. I now knew even more so that the water was dangerous and I didn't want to be anywhere in it. The next thing to happen was I fell in the water. I'd been not listening to my dad about not sitting on the side of the boat, and that came to bite me when I slid off and head first into the water. Upside down and staring into this endless blue for what couldn't have even been more than a second with how fast by dad snatched me back up, but it was enough. I kept myself tucked into a corner of the boat and didn't move. And then, after all that, about the time we were going to head back to shore, the boat's engine stopped working. We couldn't move. I don't know what my dad's friend decides to finally call the coastguard, but we were out there for hours. So long it started to get dark. And then got pitch black. In a boat without its lights. You couldn't hardly tell the sky from the water. We were just suspended in this eternal back void. And there I was, sitting in that black void I knew to be filled with sharks and jellyfish that had hurt my parents and was so endless. And we started to hear this splashing. Far away at fiesta just one big splash. And it kept getting nearer. Maybe a minute would pass and we'd hear it again, closer now. By this point, no one was talking, and we were sitting in silence, only broken up by this large splash, getting closer still. Trying to see what it was would be useless - you looked out and saw nothing. But you heard it. The last splash we heard couldn't have been more than 10 feet from the boat, and even with my overactive imagination at the time, I couldn't have imagined what it was. And it was then that, finally, the coastguard has arrived. I don't know if I should have seen it's lights coming before then. I don't remember them coming upon us or seeing them from a distance. All I can remember is that splashing, and suddenly they were there. And we were safe. These days, I suffer from intense thalassophobia. Specifically, I'm afraid of deep dark water. I won't even get into a pool if it's in the shade. The thought makes me feel sick and dizzy and like my heart is in my throat. And I can trace it back to this incident in my childhood. An incident I'll bring up with my mother when I ask if she remembers the splashing too or if that was something I'd imagined. But she heard it too. It's never left me. And what's so odd is that my thalassophobia didn't manifest in my childhood - I was fine swimming even after that. It's only been in my adult years that this fear has began. It's like I couldn't fully process that situation until now.

I have thalassophobia but I also find a huge interest into stuff that's found in the ocean, along with ships that sunk like the titanic, I don't know why but it's so cool yet scary at the same time for me.
As for the plane on 14:00, you can't use any part of it after that, because most of it's parts are either damaged from impact (even smallest crack can become a reson of a catastrophe, since every part of plane is under constant pressure all the time) But mostly because metal parts probably started coroding from water, which is obviously very bad
I have agoraphobia and for some reason watching your videos actually helps me and its like a type of exposure therapy for me. Maybe because of the aspect of like being trapped, cant escape type vibes in most of these images/videos. Thank you for what you do!
Will you do a fear of gravity next? my biggest/scariest phobia is falling off the face of the earth. I can barely stand looking up at the stars at night- or even in the day time because I think I will lose gravity and fall into space. I have nightmares on it once in a while
@@silverhand5335 omggg right?? my nightmare was me clinging on to the grass desperately in an open field because I was so scared- then I had another where I was clinging on to a tree
4:36 Lake Ponchartrain that's the northern border of New Orleans. It has the largest continuous water bridge in the world at 24 miles; it's very few lanes and not a fun drive if you don't like wind/water. It's also the same lake that flooded New Orleans when the levees broke during Katrina.
Mr. GregBroDudeMan 1000% agree with you on the suffering for camaraderie! I share the same phobia, and I'll happily suffer through with you to boost your views! The man you refer to as a "goober" is a very kind word to use. I would use stronger words to describe that individual. Especially since he has a dog with him! As for generated volcano explosion. I'd definitely be panicking, I'd be making my way to the bridge desperately trying to outrun the wave. For my last words it would either be: #1: Just like the old gypsy lady said! #2: Well...poop. #3: I've had a good run. Hope you are doing well, keep up the great work!
You’re channeling made me realize about my phobia. About a month ago my friends and I jumped into open water than was GREEN. I flipped my shit I wont lie.
The pics of the sunken ships and the part with the beeping sounds with the wind turbines got my whole body feeling cold omg. That stuff is literal nightmare fuel.
I dont know whether I really have thalassophobia since I still enjoy swimming at the beaches. But one thing for sure, I hate it if I ever be in the situation where I floating in the middle of the ocean and the sky looks like this 1:14, and to make it worse, it starts raining and thunderstorms start to hit the water. Also, I hate the idea of being lost in the middle of the ocean in pitch black night. Oh not to mention that I sometimes got some dreams (or maybe can be considered as nightmares) where I fall into the rivers/lakes
I have submechanophobia and it's so weird because otherwise I LOVE the ocean. Played Subnautica and loved it, except for the ship parts. That was panic inducing. And in real life? I could swim in the ocean, dive and stuff. But put me on an oil rig or near a submarine or something just eerily in the water I'mma have a not so great time
I hope your housing situation is working out ok! I think you’d like the game Dredge, I watched Gab Smolders play the demo (the full game comes out March 30th, but the demo’s a good chunk) and thought of you :)

The idea of waking up stuck on the edge of one of these things, with no one around for miles on end- fuck man, no thank you
8:51 See I am deathly afraid of being on large bodies of water without a very sturdy boat. Most I will go on is the shore (100ft out max) of Lake Superior. I have never capsized but I am literally petrified of it happening. Thats why I will never allow anyoje in my family to go on a cruise. I understand those boats rarely capsize but Its never zero and I wouldn't be able to handle losing them.
7:48 saying you've never seen one of these before made me jealous. In Australia we see these types of jellyfish so often. I've had one get wrapped around my leg. Not pleasant.
I love your videos they are always so entertaining, I may not have this phobia but honestly with enough exposure to scary stuff i end up not wanting to near whatever that scary thing is lmao
Jokes aside, I hope you know that even if you stop making thalassophobia videos, im pretty sure your core fanbase would stick around. Thats how I found your channel but its not the reason I continue to watch it. However, I do enjoy them :)
7:45 Physalia may or may not kill, there are many people who have survived stings from them, as they have just about everything else. It is possible to survive a full load of buckshot to the head, for example; or the bite of a King Brown snake. Though not without chronic health problems; still, most lethal things are not guaranteed 100% kills.
Youre right though, I live right by Lake Ponchatrain and every time i pass over im amazed by those big power line things. Also I used to be so scared going over the bridge but now im not so terrified. I just listen to my music and keep driving haha.
a phobia is an irrational fear, it is not irrational to fear being in water where everything wants to kill or eat you, and if you fall In it and you can't swim you're done for
Watch you on Playstation YT app where I can't comment but just so you know, it's a thing that view counts take a dive in January/February. Not sure why, but other people I watch say they were told about it and have found it to be true. So don't think about it too much, your content is good and I like whatever you post.
one of my biggest fear is when thick dark cloud are combine with ocean, I have a experience that always give me nightmare, one day I was walking on the beach and that time I saw the cloud are so dark and the waves start to getting bigger, and I was scared and climb a rock and try to go back it took me 15 minutes to get to the palce with more calm waves so I can run to go back to the beach where I park my motorcycle, maybe you ask why, because the beach where I park my motorcycle is about 1 km from where I get stuck with this big waves, and there is no path up there where I climb the rock, it's full of bush and trees, so I must do a little parkour just to avoid to touch the sand, I saw how big and aggresive are the waves, when the waves hit the rock it make a splash that make me almost wet. I will never forget that horror
Yeah swimming in the ocean and seeing the dark depths and shadows is what freaked me out, I always remember my dream being in a huge covered stadium dark with lights shining into the endless deep pool.
I only look at r/thallasophobia through you because I once went there myself and got triggered by something so you're like a light-hearted comedic barrier to the absolute terror I face from the ocean. 😄Thank for the great videos Greg👌
so, i went to the bay of bengal recently for the first time. i opted for snorkelling, to see corals n wat not (i know swimming n all but never in open waters) i was over confident. just before entering the water, i heard greg's voice...... and let me just tell you, i paniced big time as soon as i got in the water, almost drowed and took the instructor with me.
Whenever I go scuba diving in the middle of the ocean I feel a little spooked. I think everyone naturally has this to some degree. But for most people probably disappears with repitition.
I'm an Australian Navy sailor and I will never forgot the first first swim ex (jumping off the ship in the open ocean) I did in the Pacific Ocean. It wasn't too bad at first. Then a mate gave me his snorkel mask to have a look under water. Just looking straight down wasn't too bad. Then I looked at the underside of the ship and followed it down until I saw the keel. With that point of reference, looking down into the abyss. It suddenly became a little more daunting, bearing in mind I serve on a destroyer, which is a pretty big ship. My mates and I passed the mask around a little bit, then not long after all of us felt like we'd had enough swimming for the day 😅

Jokes aside, I hope you know that even if you stop making thalassophobia videos, im pretty sure your core fanbase would stick around. Thats how I found your channel but its not the reason I continue to watch it. However, I do enjoy them :)
Love the vids man, perfect mix of comedy , and i just noticed bro really has the runescape music at the outtro XD
Someone asked me where I got that “beautiful music in the outro” and I was like “bruh that’s RuneScape music from 2003 😂
Love this channel 😊
Man you know your thing and i love it, good shit
The video at 11:30 reminds me of the short film, Curve. It's a super freaky film about a girl stuck on a slope like that thing.
Yea looking out for miles and seeing nothing but ocean like absolutely no sign of land is a terrifying thought
Yes, I used to scream and cry, and sometimes still do, when I even thought about the ocean :D
13:08 I think that 'snow' is basically dead and decomposed fish particles.
1000 miles deep ocean? Imagine the creatures that must live there, that's crazy
I’m so happy I stuck around till the very end to hear that outro ❤️
12:30 lake berryessa! That’s my fav summer spot
4:45 I feel so bad for that poor dog. He knew he needed out but he was leashed to a dumbass.
I just listen to my music and keep driving haha.
a phobia is an irrational fear, it is not irrational to fear being in water where everything wants to kill or eat you, and if you fall In it and you can't swim you're done for
6:16 - Thats strangely creepy and cool at the same time.
At first falling 1000 miles into dark ocean sounded scary, till I remembered the pressure would squash you long before even falling a few miles 😀
The monthly thalassophobia vids brings a smile to my face
Watch you on Playstation YT app where I can't comment but just so you know, it's a thing that view counts take a dive in January/February. Not sure why, but other people I watch say they were told about it and have found it to be true. So don't think about it too much, your content is good and I like whatever you post.
4:46 I feel so bad for the dog, suffering because his human is dumb
Never change Greg!! Never change!
one of my biggest fear is when thick dark cloud are combine with ocean, I have a experience that always give me nightmare, one day I was walking on the beach and that time I saw the cloud are so dark and the waves start to getting bigger, and I was scared and climb a rock and try to go back it took me 15 minutes to get to the palce with more calm waves so I can run to go back to the beach where I park my motorcycle, maybe you ask why, because the beach where I park my motorcycle is about 1 km from where I get stuck with this big waves, and there is no path up there where I climb the rock, it's full of bush and trees, so I must do a little parkour just to avoid to touch the sand, I saw how big and aggresive are the waves, when the waves hit the rock it make a splash that make me almost wet.
I will never forget that horror
Yeah swimming in the ocean and seeing the dark depths and shadows is what freaked me out, I always remember my dream being in a huge covered stadium dark with lights shining into the endless deep pool.
Hey man been watching you ever since the early subnatica days keep it up 👍
Always looking forward to watching your videos!
Just found your channel, really enjoy the Thalassophobia videos. I would love seeing you react to some Claustrofobia videos :)
I only look at r/thallasophobia through you because I once went there myself and got triggered by something so you're like a light-hearted comedic barrier to the absolute terror I face from the ocean. 😄Thank for the great videos Greg👌
Could you do a Bigfoot/cryptid vid? That would be cool
so, i went to the bay of bengal recently for the first time. i opted for snorkelling, to see corals n wat not (i know swimming n all but never in open waters) i was over confident. just before entering the water, i heard greg's voice......
and let me just tell you, i paniced big time as soon as i got in the water, almost drowed and took the instructor with me.
The eeriest thing about Lake Erie is how gross and polluted it is. Even our lake monster has hepatitis.
dunking the camera is peak fear for me in these vids. one of the only things that will make me wince even though im not there.
6:14 Are those little ripples on the water caused by the sound? Looks like they could match the Hz.
