You're videos have really ignited my love for cocktails again. Happy to say I picked it up again, and I love learning about new drinks every week. Thanks to the both of you for making these awesome videos! 😃
I first fell in love with this cocktail at a local Italian restaurant a few yrs ago. I’ve made it many times as it is one of our go-to’s but we find using all equal parts makes it too lemony so I cut back on the lemon and it seems more balanced. The Amaro Nonino is very complex and great on its own.
My wife just found an old bottle of Amaro Nonino in the back of her Mother's liquor cabinet! Still sealed apparently it was a gift to my late father-in-law and no one knew what to do with it. I' making Paper Planes for my wife and I tonight! Thanks Anders!
I tend to love drinks with Campari but would imagine it being a bit out of balance with Campari and might take over the drink/be too bitter for most folks. The Aperol really helps bring the sweetness home and has less of a habit of taking over drinks imo (though maybe 3/4oz of Aperol 1/4oz Campari or something might be interesting).
@@CoachVinoLLC I have used both! I find the Aperol creates a better balance but both are delicious! Let is know what you think when you try the Campari!!
I love Campari but in this case it doesn’t work for me. Way too bitter, especially when made with Rye Bourbon like in this case. The Aperol balances the bitterness of Nonino by adding additional sweetness.
I never had a Paper Plane, but it looked intriguing. Just finished making this cocktail and I definitely love it. I’m new to the channel, but am liking it so far.
Love this drink. And thanks for giving me an excuse to go pick up a bottle of Nonino! Great video as always and so cool to hear you’re collaborating with Curiada!
Right-O. So I made one of these tonight and...wow! What a fantastic, balanced cocktail! This one will be a regular for sure! Well-worth the purchase of the Amaro Nonino. A+
Just made it, and I love it - like a tropical peach citrus taste, even with no peach in it. I went with a less expensive Amaro by Bully Boy, otherwise followed the instructions exactly, with 3/4 ounce proportions. This one is definitely in my repertoire now.
This is the cocktail I make for everyone when they come over. Not one person has be disappointed. And godman Anders you got 100000 subscribers!!!! Told you this was gonna happen months ago. I'm proud of you dude. Cheers
This is one of my absolute favorite cocktails(and so so easy to make)! It's definitely the one that put me over the edge into trying my hand at exploring the mixology world.
Besides the amazing drinks and variations, Anders has a way of explaining the history behind the drink. Think about it, bars are for socializing and sometimes small history lessons of the bottles behind the bar. Anders has brought that to all of us. Cheers sir!
This is currently my favorite cocktail. I got the last bottle of Amaro Nonino at the liquor store and I make it all the time. Other amaros definitely can work if the bar doesn’t have Nonino!
Fun fact, Robi, the director of CT, was a Slovenian champion of the RedBull paper planes competition and he went to the world championship. I didn'know that this was a thing until that happend. So I have the best guy around to make my garnish for this cocktail for sure 😄 Congratulations on teaming with Curiada! I am so happy for you. Cheers brother!
Whaaat?! Robi fascinates me more and more all the time! I bet my origami capabilities would make him cringe 😂 Somehow it makes sense to me that the competition would be sponsored by RedBull. Cheers my friend! 📄 ✈️
Anders thank you. I saw this video around when it was first released, and it was the catalyst to a world of experimentation for me. Aperol and Amaro.... enough said.
I do a similar cocktail and came up with it by myself. I use Cynar instead of Amaro (I prefer Cynar instead of vermouth in my boulevardiers), and don't use lime juice, just orange bitters. Really good.
The burning plane: Equal parts Islay scotch or blended scotch with a bar spoon of Islay, Campari, Sfumato Rubararo Amaro, Lime juice. I've tried it with Aperol and lemon juice, but I prefer the bitter and tart play of Campari and lime. My family absolutely hates this version. Lol I, however, love it.
I know this is an older video .. but this drink is sooooo goood. I just recently tried a riff of it (Avion de Papel) with Tequila instead of Bourbon, and Lime juice instead of Lemon and i added a splash of demerara simple syrup to balance de lime.. 10/10 good! Love all of your stuff.
Anders, Old Granddad has been a Jim Beam product for some time now, and a number of their whiskies are noted for having a "peanut" quality, as Heaven Hill bourbons seem to hint at cinnamon. I used to sell various industrial products to the distilleries around Bardstown. Fascinating customers to have!
I got my first bottle of Old Granndad bonded and I finally tried your exact recipe - I have to say, it's a winner! This partricular bourbon adds something fantastic to the drink that I didn't experience with the other ones I tried. All in all, it's just a wonderful cocktail that is dangerously easy and pleasant to drink! :D
Found your videos while browsing cocktails and must say I love them. Love the educational background component and the purpose of each component of the cocktail being broken down. I’ve gotten more into bourbon lately and finally bit the bullet and bought all these ingredients and made a paper plane following your guide. Absolutely fantastic. Just picked up the last bottle of amaro nonino that I could find at the store and made one of these last night. So delicious! And very easy to drink. Even my wife liked it and she has a hard time with alcoholic drinks.
This cocktail is super interesting as a control for various aperitivo. Select and Sfumato Rhubarbaro in particular are spectacular in place of the aperol!
Went to pick up a bottle of Amaro Nonino and it was over $50. Decided to try it out with Cardamaro instead. Loved it with both Aperol and Campari. Little different, but I just might like it better!
This is one of the best cocktails known to man. Everyone loves it. I used Amaro Montenegro before I found some Nonino : the grappa-based amaro makes all the difference. Cheers
