I agree with the comments saying that using the new housing isn't cheating. It's also really nice to see that the author of the mod put a lot of thought and effort into making a balanced game play experience. It also looks beautiful! The modding community of this game is so talented and I am glad that there are people like you who showcase just how awesome they are. Great find! Also I recently also found the wholesome hacienda mod and I love it. It really makes building a beautiful and functional hacienda possible. Love the videos and glad you are feeling better.
Directly placing worker and artisans terraced houses is not cheating. Its more effective for planning the town and, with the extra goods you need now, anyway more work for you.
With regards to the new housing, I think it's fine. It's basically like the hacienda homes and you've hit the tiers for them anyway on the island. You do you on that one. For the department stores I can't help but think do the small ones. Surely no actual department store of the size of the base one is just going to specialise in one product. Having lots of little smaller ones in greater quantities I think could be a nicer approach. And they look nicer anyway.
I'm currently doing a sandbox game with all those mods you mentioned (and some more). I just got artisans set up, but seeing that new department store ... I can't wait to put that in. And I don't mind the smaller radius as they are so much prettier to fit in between the skyscrapers. I haven't used them but love them already
At 14:46, you commented about the smaller lights in front of the corner buildings. They are truly carriage light posts, to tie your horse and carriage to. Great watching you, you go so fast that I get dizzy, or maybe it's because I'm 2 months away from 79, or because I just smoked that doobie.🤔😎
Direct placement once that tier of house unlocked it way more realistic anyways. People don't upgrade their house from a 1 story to a 3 story or skyscraped as the get better jobs. It makes way more since from a city planner and realistic standpoint you would build houses in your city that specific to the type of pops you need or want to attract.
I think the latest version of the Industrial Cities mod added proper progression between terraced tiers One thing I like with the small power plants is that they allow you to manage your consumption of wells a bit better, as you can't throttle the power plants. For example with 6 wells you could build one full power plant, one small one and have one well left over to supply tractors.
Loved the (beginning of) the series. Personally, I would like to know where you are working towards when you start the video. Felt like this time you just hovered around and did some QoL changes. Preferred when you were sticking to a script/tasks. All in all, a still satisfied subscriber :)
Yeah this one was mostly getting a feel for the new mods in the playthrough and seeing what all they did. The next video has a bit more going on with it though!
Regarding the department store, maybe have one as the ONE big one, with lots of ornaments and giving its proper importance, letting your creative juices flow, making the well known center of capitalism and expediture. All the rest you do with the nice new additions, IMO, which are just better. I agree that those stores are difficult to place into a nice spot. I wish they also looked different from each other, but alas...
The only places on Crown Falls that doesn't look horrible for the palace is right on the coastline where it's flat. The entire island is sloping upwards after that and it does that weird thing lol
From what I remember the products consumed are not linked to amount of residents but to amounts of houses. So add a house you increase consumption. Inside a house adding residents does nothing. Could have changed through some mods maybe but that is the original gameplay as far as i remember. So 45 or 75 in the house doesn_'t do anything but you can find out easily by checking the stats screen if numbers change. More product however is being consumed in the sense that with the terraced houses you now need tea and tools for example which haven't been there before. If I get it right after artisans terraced house there is no more upgrading? So you specifically decide for those then. Interesting touch to it. I love the models.
Consumption is based on the potential max number of residents. So an artisan house with max 45 consumes less than the same house with a max of 75. But those numbers aren't entirely accurate either bc the max residents shown also includes potential from lifestyle... And they consume no additional goods. But simplistically, yes the higher the max possible residents, the more it consumes.
I don't consider it cheating to go straight to the terraced houses. I just see the upgrade chain as busy work if you already have the industrial capacity to support the interim tiers regardless. It's not like farmers+workers are exactly hard.
05:50 Is the old town pack required for the mod to work to change the skin of the town hall? Considering the terraced houses, just place them directly. Since you already unlocked investors it will help you speed a bit through the tediousness of upgrading houses
I'm wondering if there was ever a mod that makes use of the continental land in the arctic. Let you build up there, only with airships.. Would be quite difficult, but I think more realistic than only mining gas on the glaciers.
No and not sure if that would be possible. The landmass is not setup to built on at all. I am 99.9% sure it is not remotely possible for modders to make that a reality.
You played the game for so long that upgrading farmers to Artisans only consumes time and provides zero challenge. As far as I can tell, you don't even save building materials if you place the terraced houses directly. I would never consider that cheating.
You already need to progress to... Engineers? Its at least a certain number of Artisans to even unlock lock them in the first place; plus the electricity need. Might as well direct place them after that. Commercial street. Always.
Progressing to engineers is not really a factor I consider.... I can do that in about 15 minutes or less after reaching artisans if I am not dawdling around. You need 1500 artisans to unlock all needs for that tier.
Never understand why people who use mods then try to make levels to the modding somebody is okay and other modding is cheating. Really at the end of the day play the game that makes it enjoyable for you. Some people find these games challenging and don't add anything, fine. Some people play these games a lot and realized the deficiencies in the AI so you have to do things to keep your interests, fine. I don't know I think it's a Western mentality kind of thing, to be so bothered by nothing
Honestly kinda feel they should just let you build the tier of house in the first place... Don't see how it adds much to go through the upgrade tiers. Is it cheating? By the hard definition yeah sure, I mean the game seems to intend that you go through the tiers... The better question is, does teh ability to skip that devalue your stated goal of building up to 1 mil pops whilst trying to make the city look at least presentable, and possibly nice? No.
Anyone else's game broken in that when you click on a resident, the character that sometimes talks has no sound? There's music and sound effects for everything else, just no dialogue sounds.
Hi Taka, your made a video about a mod a month ago, the one that adds Crown Falls to the old world. Is it publicly available now? And if not, do you know if it will soon?

I really love Jakob's mods...they add such great value and skins into the game. Very cool. (I am using like 147+ mods)

My thoughts exactly!!
Love how excited you are for the tiered homes and tiny department stores! Keep up the great work!
Love to see you enjoying this playthrough! And kudos to the mod list.

No cheating in directly placing the terraced houses.

Have to admit, your city builds are so unique and maybe the top 10th percentile of videos on TH-cam. Maybe reconsider the palace location?

Taka do you know if the AI NPC's also use these forms of Terraced Artisans and Workers? and if they use those new production chain?
Oh look tools will fit right there….bro it’s like the 4th time you placed it there😂😂

No those are just extra skins for the building. No CDLC required.
Use everything the mods offer ;)
I would like to see more designs for Markets.
Awesome
try adding the modules to the store to see if it gets more range
where can u get the canal options?
Can you combine the department street to make a larger structure like a palace?
There is a mod that does something like that actually!
Btw there are even more brick skins for these houses on mod i o
Thanks I will check for those!
Wasn’t Taka going to tell us why he doesn’t go past level 3 on sky scrapers on this video…….did I miss it somewhere in this video?
Oh... Right. Ummm... I'll explain later k
Add Bruno for tool factories and use workforce instead for docklands goodies …woot !
I am gonna have so much workforce it won't matter lol!

Not cheating. If you were starting a new settlement, that’s cheating.

No.
They left this game with so many bugs, they could of least made it bug free before they dumped it.
I don't think I ever encountered a bug. Can you develop? Give me an example?
