Join us as we try authentic Indian food in India for the first time in our lives!
India has always been in our Top 3 bucket-list countries, so being here was incredibly exciting for all of us!
After staying at a home near the beach for one night, we headed towards downtown Kochi and checked into a hotel.
With Indian cuisine being one of our favorites ever, we decided to get out in the streets and go straight to “the source” for a delicious meal.
Don’t get me started on the cultural shock we’d been going through in the meantime. Even the simplest thing, like crossing the street, was such a different experience for us. (If you think you’ve seen traffic, trust me, you haven’t!)
We went straight for the food stalls, but choosing what to eat was not as easy as we thought it would be.
There were so many options and names we had no idea what they stood for. Finally, we agreed on the local Marhaba Food Court, and since their menus weren’t that elaborate, we decided to have whatever they recommended.
Despite Chloe’s efforts to divert us from poultry, it looks like we ordered everything chicken! And it didn’t disappoint! On the contrary, we loved everything they brought, and on top of it, we paid so little.
After such a filling meal, we thought it would be great to just walk it off, and do some grocery shopping at the local supermarket.
Again, the prices were incredibly low (not that we mind), leaving us wondering about the price gap with the Western world.

Keralan food is unique among other South Asian cuisines due to its historic ties with many foreign cultures and culinary influences which has over the years enriched the people of Kerala to cherish vegetarian and non-vegetarian foods on equal terms. We love our food here in Kerala, so much so that the taboos on Beef and Pork, which are dividing lines and points of cultural contention for the rest of the country, are almost non existent in our State. Kerala is truly a Gastronomer's Paradise!

Usually in India, if a restaurant has lot of people eating, that means its good. Otherwise, see google reviews (if available for that restaurant). Ask them what dish they make well. In Kerala, parotta, biriyani, fish fried/curry, egg curry are some of the famous food items. Also see other related youtube videos. If you go to the Chinese fishing nets in Cochin, they will prepare fresh fried fish for you (street food).

There are 28 states and 8 Union territories in the country. I am from Thiruvananthapuram.Thiruvananthapuram is the capital of the Indian state of Kerala. Thiruvananthapuram is a major tourist hub in India. Kovalam and Varkala are popular beach towns near the city. Other important beaches include Poovar, Shankumugham Beach, Azhimala Beach, Vizhinjam Beach and Veli Beach. The Padmanabhaswamy Temple located at the heart of the city is known as the richest place of worship globally. Other places of interest include Agasthyamala rain forests, Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary, Kallar, Braemore, Ponmudi hills, Poovar, Anchuthengu backwaters, Varkala Cliffs and Kappil-Edava lakes.
The city is also known for its unique style of architecture involving Kerala Architecture with British and Dravidian influences. Napier Museum, Zoo, Padmanabha Swamy temple, Kuthira Malika palace, Kilimanoor palace and The Trivandrum Golf Club heritage building are examples.
The leading museums include Kerala Science and Technology Museum (with its attached Priyadarsini Planetarium), Napier Museum, Kerala Soil Museum and Koyikkal Palace Museum. Agasthyamala Biosphere Reserve is listed in UNESCO's World Network of Biosphere Reserves.

You and your girls lifted my spirits up today! Such a great family and welcome to our state! I love the one that saw the video on our state being mainly vegetarian hehe. Kerala is more non-veg than veggie and with different regions (north, central and south) the main protien of the dish varies from fish to beef (white to red meat). However before leaving kerala you should have a taste of the Kerala Sadhya (the kerala meal on banana leaf - fully veg)
If you have plans to come down here south to the capital Trivandrum, you can see the richest temple in the entire planet upclose :) , have a great sadhya, and probably see the zoo that we call the secretariat xD
EDIT : and you have to see the Jatayu statue.

I don't know currently where you are, butI'll suggest you to visit forts around pune city, ajanta ellora caves, diveagar beach in maharashtra state of india. Especially in monsoon sahyadri mountains of maharashtra looks like a heaven on the earth. I'll aslo suggest you to avoid visiting 2 cities delhi and mumbai, because they are too congested, and so much traffic is there. Maharashtra has so much to explore, just tourist don't know much about it. You can search on you tube, to look for places to visit. And I am pretty sure you'll be amazed after seeing the beauty of maharashtra. If you want some assistance, i would love to help you out.

4:40 well let me clear your doubts..
South indians focus more on education rather than religion meanwhile in North India, they give more importance to religion for keeping their culture safe.
    So yeah that's why..
Plus our parents are so strict more than north indian parents though 😶.
Edit :- u have no problem if u eat beef or chicken in here not a problem at all, even myself as hindu we all eat it but in northern india, there's a problem with it.

Born and brought up in Kerala,,and having travelled both in South and North India,,and being a senior citizen too I must say that Keralites mostly favour non-vegetarian now, unless they are restricted by their religious background,, (being a Brahmin etc ,,)or just being a practising vegan. In fact Kerala is one place where you easily get beef (Cow -meat) too ,right anywhere,in expensive hotels as well as roadside eateries.Just look around any busy street ,you will find so many ads put up in front of restaurants and eateries celebrating variety of chicken and beef dishes,buffalo- meat too..No way Kerala is a vegetarian population now.. And everyone has the freedom to define their eating habits too. Hindus ,Christians,Muslims..no distinctions here.Actually all foreign tourists have a mistaken impression that India means vegetarians,,only because of what they experience in North Indian states..Entirely different in the South, especially Kerala.

    • @GrowingUpWithoutBorders
      @GrowingUpWithoutBorders  ปีที่แล้ว

That’s very true. We discovered really fast that in the south people eat cow meat. We tried so many amazing dishes when we were there.

@@GrowingUpWithoutBorders Help us change this notion about Indians being cow worshipers or vegetarians or whatever. I'm from Kerala and can definitely vouch that most keralites enjoy non-vegetarian foods, especially Kerala poratta and beef curry. Also I have never come across anyone worshiping cows in Kerala for that matter. Can't speak for the other parts of India but definitely not in Kerala.
