I was watching some indy, sci-fi TH-cam movies, and then this one popped up. I have to say, it was EXCELLENT! Excellent acting, excellent theme, and, well, everything about it was excellent! And, even though it was posted nine years ago, isn’t it interesting that it fits for what’s happening in today’s world?? 🤔👍👍👍
Ya keep popping up on my recommended so thought I'd watch it again! Another thing I really like about your work here; you know what your story is about, you the film maker. And you are able to convey that. I'm referring to a comment here that you explain about the voice. Some film makers on here try so hard for an ambiguous ending that I often wonder if they even know their own story. "Dirt" is entertaining as well as enjoyable because of this fact in my opinion. ‘SOBERING”, “APPALLING”, “TRAGIC” are a few descriptions that come readily to mind when watching the short films regarding efforts to depict the trials and tribulations following the day the disaster takes place, i.e. the day the BALOON GOES UP”. It immediately becomes obvious that those who attempt to produce these short videos are lacking in a number of areas and especially those qualities acquired by those who grew up in a rural environment hunting (and fishing and gardening and farming). They apparently have no understanding of the need to move in the shadows either at the side of buildings, at the edge of rows of trees or brush and in the shadows, or better yet, among the trees or underbrush. That rather than ever considering crossing open ground; the only prudent method being to skirt the edge of all open areas. Just as when deer hunting or squirrel hunting, the movement must be deliberately slow, taking a few slow careful steps and then slowly looking about with minimal movement of the head and body. ANY QUICK OR ABRUPT MOVEMENT IS TO BE AVOIDED LIKE THE PLAGUE!, movements ever so slight attracts unwanted attention both by animals and by humans. The mandatory idea is TO SEE AND NOT BE SEEN. No one in their right mind would stop and rest unless concealed and certainly not out in the open!! IN SHORT, THESE VIDEOS DO SERVE AN IMPORTANT AND THUS NEEDED PURPOSE: THAT OF VIVIDLY SHOWING . . . . WHAT NOT TO DO!!! That in and of itself constitutes a great value in and of itself!!u Also, avoid like the plague building for shelter and if you must use them as shelter,, keep watch on the building for an hour or so looking for movements. Dirt searches for food in the daytime because she has been trained to fear the shadows. Sir has convinced her that monsters come out at night and hide in the dark. Which is why Dirt doesn’t want to go out to check the hatch. Since Sir has a radio for a body, Dirt never properly learned how to hunt. This is also why she tends to get excited about finding canned food, she doesn’t have to hunt. But thanks for your feedback and thank you for watching!
Also, regarding the shelter, that site was chosen for a very specific reason by Sir. It’s next to an old Halloween monster sound FX machine that was hidden under the doors of the hatch. Sir used the dying automatic monster sounds to convince Dirt that there was actually a creature down there. It’s all part of Sir’s manipulation of Dirt. Plus, having a place she could hide from “the shadows” played right into his manipulation
Is it a story about the deception inherent in worshipping false idols or a "50 Shades" take on a radio (complete with "sir" and a derogatory submissive name, black militaristic uniforms, Hentai references and a forbidden dungeon!)? I hope it was an alien or psychosis doing the talking. Am I close to the meaning? Fine work on the film- good performances and cinematography. Cheers!
Thanks! Our cast and crew were phenomenal. Your take on the events depicted are totally valid and if those are the images and messages you took away from it, who am I to tell you no? The hentai connection is lost on me, but maybe I need to actually watch hentai to understand? Hahaha
The radio sounds like a 30 year old millennial who plays too many video games and has a self esteem problem. Would work better with a more authoratitve(older) voice or less human, and more robotic voice.
Unconvincing, to say the least. Horribly unconvincing. The radio is too desperate, to convey any sense of control over the situation, let alone itself(too reactive). Acting horrible. Writing even worse. All characters are the same...undifferentiated. The author was influenced by too many video games and not enough literature.
Liked it up to the point of, "Leave the gun." LEAVE THE GUN!?! Surveyor chick should have been caped right there. Nice M1 Grand. In good condition, also. How did that happen living years in the wilds? And everyone's clothes were very clean to have been outside for any extended length of time.
Donovan Quesenberry III Well Alice asks Dirt to leave the gun because she’s a crazy woman who’s been living in the desert for a long time. So it would be monumentally stupid to let a stranger come with them carrying a loaded rifle. And in terms of how clean everyone is, the surveyors have only been outside for a little while, notice how fast their ship arrived after Alice called for it. So they shower and wash their clothes fairly often. And Dirt is pretty dirty, we kept adding more and more weathering to her clothes but it was hard to make it show up on camera. It's sarcasm. Why do so many sci fi shorts rely on gun battles rather than sticking with ideas, dialogue, or cinematic presence? Gamers like guns and blood, not all of us. I would guess more than 70% of shorts I've viewed contain weapons and killing. Your short would've worked well without weapons.
