For those who find it boring and too emotional, you think a post-apocalypse environment wouldn't be full of psychological struggles? No moral dilemmas whatsoever? This short film shows the ethical part of what humans would go through. I think it's different than all the others moaning-decomposed-zombies usual short films. It's unique and it's great work.

Well done. To the comment critics, short films like this are where actors and crew learn a lot of technical skills, they are in large part learning experiences and they will likely all go on to even greater things. I am grateful they are free to watch here, we pay nothing so why complain?

    • @REKFilmsMontana
      @REKFilmsMontana  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

We appreciate this comment. There are soooooo many people who just seem angry and want to attack all the time. Constructive criticism is useful. But few do that here. It's too bad really. But thanks again.

@@REKFilmsMontana Been buzzing through the post apocalyptic shorts on TH-cam the last few days. This is one of the better made films. If you find a common thread people can relate to the rest just happens naturally. A good score too, btw. I'd say the only thing this needs is a larger cast, and another hour twenty of screen time. Robin Hood of the Wastelands... =)

Totally agree. People bitch & ‘condemn’ almost everything that doesn’t match “their”:criteria of what should be...and they attack WITHOUT justification. They are, in a word....miserable

Plot holes. 1. The other truck still had gas and could run. So she could have 1 truck and the kid the other truck. 2. She should have never used her gun to shoot very stupidly at that guy while the other guy was driving. She could have saved it for when they stopped so they wouldve had a way better chance of coming out on top in that situation. Which leads me to plot hole number 3. Dude shouldve reversed like she said and not got out like a dummy just to die with no weapon or anything to defend himself.

The SL, acting, scenery, the creativity and imagination it took on a mere $600 to give birth to a fantastic movie! Please keep me in mind if ya'll do the GoFundMe.

I like the premise, it would make for a good feature-length film if it were supported by a well-written script. All of the production work was spot on so no need for any crew changes...you have everything you need right now. Two serious thumbs up.

Traumatized young man saves a lady who then walks away in the middle of the night, and then the next day he finds her on the road and saves her again by leaving her a working truck to get back to safety. Who is to say just how long ago the cataclysm occurred and how well prepped for it the survivors were. Many, MANY people (myself included) are ALREADY preparing for and expecting a catastrophe, here in western countries, that is likely to end up in that kind of scenario in the not-to-distant future. I think that anyone who has a fair grasp of history already recognizes the signs that life as we knew it before 2020 is simply NOT coming back.

With a budget of $600 you've done wonders. Thank You. Ignore the haters, if people did not like it, why did they continue to watch it? Just to Bitch about it?! Before I receive a lot of bitchy comments, as stated earlier, people have a choice. Keep more Shorts coming.

Here's some constructive criticism. The chase is a mess.
    1) Why is the gun in the glove compartment? This is the apocalypse.
    2) Why didn't the bad guy swerve? He's being shot at. Shouldn't he have slammed on the brakes or at least swerved?
    3) Why is the bad guy trying to dodge the shots? The shots never hit the windshield.
    4) Oh and BTW, you can't dodge bullets. Bullets from hand guns travel over 800 feet/second.
    5) If bullets are rare in the apocalypse, why is she using all the bullets?
    6) Why get out of the car to confront the baddie? At least bring out the gun, the baddie doesn't know you have no bullets?
    7) Why is she screaming in the truck. Get out, run.
All I'm saying is, just think it through.

@@REKFilmsMontana All you have to do is ask yourself "What would I do in this situation"? I just stopped a truck after being shot at. A person gets out of the truck without a gun approaches me. I kill that person and then spend time hacking a dead person. What is the other person doing? Am I in danger? Where is the gun? When characters take silly actions, it takes you out of the story. Your short has good production values, good camera work and good acting, but the story telling needs work.

From what I have seen this is pretty close to the truth. As an ex Firefighter I have seen lots of people panic, go into shock, and do extremely stupid things. The world is full of people who are addicted to the nanny state. In a true emergency, or a distopian future they are like children in an emergency, because all the grown up things they would usually do like dialing 911 or getting help from the few real men in the world will not be possible. They believe there will always be a 7 Eleven store in a pinch, a smartphone or app. Or just the most popular, getting in the car and fleeing, and cops to the rescue in every scenario, and that guns are either bad, or for those other paranoid people. Most of these people will die quickly in a harsh survival scenario if there are bad people around. And if there are good people around, they will probably still die of starvation, dehydration, or disease. Those who do survive will be tough smart and adaptable, and will not suffer as much. That was a fairly stupid scene tho, I'll give you that,. If you are a terrible shot you don't spray your last magazine to empty. I'll bet her husband was pissed. He was probably committing suicide on purpose to get it over with. Databyter

I really liked the casting...esp. the boy. In profile, he seems like an older adolescent. Head-on, his youth (read "innocence") is more apparent. That duality very nicely served the tension in the plot, that is, whether, absent his mother's influence, his nature had already become "hardened" or if he could still remember, from his boyhood, what it was like to be caring. Nice work.

And there is a Feature length sequel planned if we can get the money. So over the next 2-3 years we should hope to see several films in this universe if all goes as planned.

Obviously the human capital invested far outstrips the $600. Nicely shot, believably acted, a nice demo of abilities if nothing else. I have to ask, though, where this kid's murderous impulse comes from. Killing your father, or father surrogate, with a machete is not something one does on impulse, or as vengeance for the death of a stranger. There has to be something more to it. And where this kid thinks he's going in the desert with virtually no supplies is beyond me. Just didn't make much sense. Still, this showed much promise and I hope it leads to bigger and better things!

Thank you Geoff. Honestly our approach is more about the themes then the technical. The themes of abuse and manipulation. I think back to the relationship between The Emperor and Darth Vader. And what ultimately Vader ended up doing to Him. Vader had a choice, he can keep living under the rule and manipulation of the Emperor, or do what needs to be done, not only to save his son but himself in the process, So the Manipulator has to go before that can happen. At the same Time what does John know? He knows and has been taught violence, so it of course is going to come natural to him. Granted Brenda is a Stranger to John and so was the woman on the cross, but at some point he can say enough is enough and chose to change not only his path but those around him as well.

Hello! Great scenes! I have a little doubt, could you do the same with the Sony a6300? I case of not, why not? Im trying to decide what camera buy :( actually sony a6500 cost 500€ more in my country. Thank you a lot.

    • @REKFilmsMontana
      @REKFilmsMontana  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Hello Kaudillo, So it just so happens I had the A6300 for a short period of time. From the stand point of Image Quality they are exactly the same. No difference at all. But what what putt the nail in the coffin for me was the lack of Stabilization on the A6300. And I was going to be using rokinon Prime lenses and I could not get rid of the Hand Shake. Which was going to make the action of this film very hard and create a look I did not want. The A6500 made all the difference in the world in that regard. Now if this is not a concern for you then yes the A6300 will create some great images. And if you was to use stabilized sony primes like the 50mm oss lens you would be fine as well. But it all kind of works out in the end because if you use the A6500 with it's in body stabilization, you can get away with cheap old 35mm primes if you want, like some of the old Canon FD mounts with an adapter. So it's just how much the stabilization matters to you in my opinion. All the other differences between those two cameras is so small they are not worth mentioning. IMO

The media likes to portray the lack of government as lawlessness and barbarism. Actually, the opposite of government is community. Neighbors knowing each other, helping one another, trading, and safeguarding their own. The 'Mad Max' angle has been done to death.

There is some truth to this. There are always some bad apples to deal with tho. You have to be ready for mad max, and look for the good community. We already have the psychopathic criminals, it will take people time to remember we outnumber them. there are a lot of sheepdogs to help with that transition. Hopefully it would not come to that. But in my opinion it is the definition of insane not to be prepared. EVERYONE should have a bugout bag and a gun.

It is an OK Movie. But it would make more sense for people to kill for resources instead for the Fun of it. Resources like Food, Water, Land, Tools, and Weapons. Killing without Stealing or Cannibalism would not help survival. The Setting Movie looks beautiful and the Acting is Great. And maybe you have a Point with some people killing for fun because of PTSD from the War causing Violent Outbursts to express emotional Trauma. But Killing due to madness can only be a secondary goal because food and water is essential to survival.

Covena White makes good points. Obviously, however, the perception of a moral and the enjoyment of fiction is highly subjective.
I really enjoyed the film! Even the music was great, and right on point!
MY perception wasn't that the father was necessarily teaching his son how to kill a human being necessarily "for the fun of it." Rather, he was teaching his son how to 'kill a human being' when necessary and 'appropriate,' given the circumstances. More specifically, I took it as the father's chosen method to teach his son to set aside his natural feelings of compassion, considering the extraordinary circumstances in which the world, and all people in it, were plunged, in order to teach him to survive. Something along those lines. I am NOT justifying the validity of the father's moral judgments. I'm only saying that that is the way I perceive the father's intentions. I also perceive that the dire circumstances the father found him and his son in had driven the man to a state of madness. And even that is assuming he was a 'good man' to begin with. He may not have been.
All in all, I found the film to be entertainingly dramatic and quite thought-provoking! Great entertainment, particularly for the times we live in. Thank you!

Hi, The situation is understood. May or may not come in our life time. The respect shown to woman hood much appreciated, inspite of lawlessness.
"You don't need to do what he liked you to do" was the most appropriate word she used though may be for survival, but we're golden words, a reminder sort, for all viewers. Importantly, the significance of law is felt, at the lawless state. Time and I tried to come cime out of the frame, while viewing, from its absorption. I liked it. True it has a strong message.

Pity we lack at the beginning of the movie the background explained in the text - so it would be clearer that we're meant to see a confrontation between Anarchy and Law&Order (simplified). [Now I'm wondering why the "Law" side people start driving around in "Lawless" land...]
Also it's a bit longish, but good filming, and clothing and make-up make sense. Acting is OK as well.
And finally a detail: do I see well that the woman shooting from the car is blonde, but once a prisoner next to the campfire, she seems to have turned dark-haired?
