  • Apollo mission in KSP, Real Solar System mod.
    Tsiolkovskiy, large lunar impact crater located on the far side of the Moon, was considered as a potential target for Apollo 17 mission. Due to a different geology landing on the far side could have returned significantly more scientific value than an additional mission to the near side.
    Apollo 17 Astronaut Harrison "Jack" Schmitt and other scientists strongly advocated Tsiolkovskiy as the landing site of Apollo 17, using small communications satellites deployed from the Command/Service Module for communication from the far side of the moon. NASA vetoed the idea as too risky, and Apollo 17 instead landed in the Taurus-Littrow valley on December 11, 1972.

    I love your video super excited about your return!!! I think it overall the video could've benefitted from in-game sounds such as noises from the rocket during launch or so. I loved the video overall though, the composition of the shots were very nice the choice in music was great too. Personally, I'd love to see a sort of integrated program plan style mission to Mars at some point in the future or something crazy like an Orion mission to either Mars or Jupiter or any of the other outer planets could be interesting too.

    • @winged
      @winged  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem with in-game sounds is that they are very monotonous. Today I recorded Soyuz launch with engine from the game and believe me it didn't sound nicely so I replaced it with audio from actual launch.
      As to the Nuclear Orion I don't know how it works with RO, I guess it would require making a config first, I will test it in the future.

    • @jaytheamazing197
      @jaytheamazing197 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@winged Yea I just watched the Soyuz video I think some sort of rocket sounds during launch definitely add a lot to the level of audio quality to the video, the venus fly-by video you did is a good example of it helping. It feels weird if you're not hearing a rumbling of some kind when something as huge as the Saturn V lifting off. I'd say the only exception to this is the direct ascent video where it had an epic sounding score behind it or the Ares to Mars where there were a multitude of different launches happening.
      The Orion was sort of just a random crazy idea, I think you could pull it off really well if you did it.

    manned missions need to incorporate a shade. We would also require multiple missions to allow a return trip, installing orbiting fuelling stations in low earth and lunar orbit. LOR is way too fantastical for this century.
    I've made a vid on the heat issues here:
    th-cam.com/video/Zztbw7MLlkI/w-d-xo.html
    Glad to see the moon so clean, I hate all the dustiness of Apollo, and how to clean a lense for a photo? Electrostatic? Also the descent engine hardly disturbed the surface. That's a good landing site right there. Pity Apollo didn't do more geophiz work before landing. Oh, wait, they actually nailed finding a hard rock landing site just by luck didn't they? Isn't that why no blast crater?

    It seems at 9:50 you messed up your return trajectory to Earth. That approach angle looks way too steep compared to the re-entry scene that follows so I think it's safe to say this wasn't done in a single take?
    Impressive work nonetheless, this is way cool.

    • @winged
      @winged  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was done in a single take. I probably cut that scene a bit too quickly, few seconds later (at high time warp) you will see that approach angle isn't that steep as it looks like.
      Also then I cut down this scene the crew was still about 30000 km from Earth.

    • @schizophrenicenthusiast
      @schizophrenicenthusiast 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      winged That's fair.
      I was confused cause I thought during re-entry the command module was headed east(which doesn't fit with what the previous scene showed). I just checked and it was going west which makes more sense.
      Cheers.
