  • Can the new Tamron 18-300mm f3.5-6.3 compete with the Fuji 70-300mm f4-5.6 for wildlife video? We'll test the image quality at the same focal lengths, who has better stabilization? Autofocus, sharpness etc. Testing on the Fuji XT4.

I have the nikon Z50, and am looking for a better lens for wildlife than the 50-250 dx. I'm considering the 24-200, which would be a 36-300mm equivalent. I feel like the little bit of extra versatility at both ends would mean I wouldn't be needing to switch lenses as much for wider shots, and have a little more reach on the long end which would be nice for just carrying one lens when hiking. The only thing I can't decide is if I'd rather just go straight for a dedicated lens for wildlife in the same price range like the tamron 100-400, which should be a 150-600 equivalent. Wouldn't be as good for hiking, but I'll probably end up with both, so it's just a matter of which I would pick up first.

Just tested the Tamron 18-300 E-mount for Sony ZV-E1 on Dynamic Active Stability with 1.1 X Digital Zoom. Works amazing! Super stable even with walking. The crop is perfect with no vignette. This would be my all in one set-up and I don't have to worry about low light since the ZV-E1 is great at that.

Nice review! As a videographer, maybe it's time to shift to the Sony ecosystem. Vastly superior auto-focus in the a6700, very good built-in image stabilization, and the newest sensor works great with the speed limitations of the Tamron. You will appreciate Sony's advantages as their auto-focus takes a back seat to no-one. One TH-camr posted a great comparison between the Tamron and the Sony G 70-350mm equivalent, and the Tamron proves to be quite compelling, particularly given its versatility.

I am doing a summer trip with my college friends to Greece, and I will be making a video documenting the whole thing. I will be taking my iPhone 12 with a phone gimbal to do the vlogging portion. And to capture the cinema I will be taking my gh5 with the lumix 12-35mm f/2.8, lumix 35-100mm f/4-5.6, and a sigma 30mm f/1.4 for toneh. I have a budget of give or take $500 (American) to add either an action cam or a small drone that I can carry with me on a daily basis. Should I buy the drone and use our phones as action cams for the water related stuff, or should I place my budget on a decent drone? If you recommend the action cam, considering we want it for water related stuff, should I get the dji action cam or the go pro hero 10? Last thing, if you were to do the same trip with your friends, what camera and lenses would you take?

Tamron has good quality glass but not if you need IS. My full frame 150-600 G2 was OK for stills with Canon cameras (both DSLR and mirrorless) but unusable for video, just like yours. The native Canon RF 100-500 is so much more stable it's not funny. It's also sharper, which it better be for $2800 USD.
I'll never buy Tamron again. Not that they make anything for RF. If Sigma make anything for Fuji, I'd like to see how that looks.

The stabilization in my 24-70 g2 from Tamron is fantastic. I've never used a 150-600 but I imagine that focal length really isn't meant for handheld shooting regardless of brand

Fuji if you want 300mm, the color was better too.

You seem very concerned with the stab, which is understandable since you shoot hand held, and in your last video advised against using a gimbal. Which also makes sense. Had you wanted to use a gimbal, you never would've gotten those immediate, split second, once in a lifetime shots of those elusive fast moving stop signs!

Glass wrecks light coherency... it's a jugglng act between as few elements as possible and good optical chatacteristics. A good rule of thumb is lower element count is better. I could go into the why.. but just check the element count on your beloved zeiss :)

The tamron is a better choice for traveling. Because you can vlog with it, and take photos with it. The Fuji is more of a professional lens I think. I could be wrong, but anyone could be wrong. It’s about are you wrong? Does that make sense? Was that your question? 😂 I enjoyed the review. Hope you read my comment.

Fuji stabilization kills the Tamron. Like the colors of the Fuji a little better.
