Yessssss I'm just getting back into reading this year, and I am pretty sure my favorite genre is historical fiction. This is the most extensive recommendations list on TH-cam I have been able to find! Thank you!
HI Angie, The first Historical Fiction novel I ever read is also the best I've read. The novel, also awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, is The Killer Angel's by Michael Shaara and it's about the Battle of Gettysburg. It is so brilliantly written that it literally transforms you to a fly on the wall. Michael was the brother of the prolific historian Jeff Shaara.
I have a few of these on my TBR pile but The Nightingale is a 5 star book and one my top five books. Can't wait for the movie to come out, with the Fanning sisters (Dakota and Elle) staring in it.
Fantastic recommendations! I've read a few and have a few on my TBR already and now I have even more to add. I am very interested in picking up The Bear and The Nightingale Series📚📚
Love this! I might read Between Shades of Gray for the places I've visited prompt (Russia). I also loved The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek, highly recommend.
The Undeground Railroad sounds really good! It's been too long since I've really read any historical fiction, but it's a genre I really enjoy. I took a class on writing historical fiction in college, and that gave me so much appreciation for the amount of research and planning involved in writing these books!
Oooh I forgot all about Pachinko, but I’ve been meaning to read it! Great recs!! I can’t wait for historathon 😄 I so rarely read historical fiction even though some of my favorite books are historical fiction. Thrilled to have an excuse! Thanks!
@@sciencemama no worries at all! We're gonna shift it to be just once a year and probably in September from now on 😁. So pumped to get a good fill of HF ☺️💕
You have talked about so many amazing books and some of them I may try to read if I get time.. The nightingale is one I especially want to get to. I’m going o read once upon a river for somewhere o have visited ie London, bedlam stacks for no person on the cover and tidelands covers a civil war x
I think Half Blood Blues would work well for the diverse author prompt, and then The Hours Count is a fantastic read and would work for non-WWII. Can’t wait to watch your TBR for this readathon!!
I love all these recommendations!!! Some books I am looking at are The Book of Longings (no people on cover), Hamnet (person's name in title), and A Long Petal of the Sea (war thatnos not WWII). I cannot wait to get started :)
Books I’m contemplating - The Song of Achilles- name in title, war not WW2, no person on cover - The Last Kingdom- no person on cover, war not WW2 -How much of these Hills are Gold- diverse author - What Angels Fear or Face of a stranger - historical sub genre
Hi Angie! Love aaaaall your recommendations. I thought I had some books picked and now I don’t know anymore! 😆😉😉. I just finished listening to the Underground Railroad. Oh goodness it was tough but it was amazing. I do have one question about the historathon. It is my first readathon so I don’t know if one book can tick more than one box? Or do I have to pick 9 books? (Well 8, the group read is already picked) Let me know!! TIA
That is wonderful to know about The Underground Railroad. Yes, you can definitely use 1 book to cover more than one prompt ... I will probably do that a bit because I don't usually read 9 books in a month :)
I took some notes and will be reading a few of them in the future. God Bless you 🙏🏽

All in for my first #Historathon!.... Great suggestions, Angie!... ✨😎✨

I'm always impressed when I hear how much work goes into just the research for a historical fiction book!

YES, pick up the Nightingale - I would love to hear your thoughts on it!!
I read the Nightingale . Very good
These sound so interesting. Could you please make a video of your favourite children’s books, or children’s book reviews. Thanks very much!
Sure, that is a wonderful video idea!

I'm looking both of those books up now - you always give me such good recommendations :)
Ahhh! I want to read them all!
I know!! Now I have to narrow it down, so hard to choose!
I love all these recommendations!!! Some books I am looking at are The Book of Longings (no people on cover), Hamnet (person's name in title), and A Long Petal of the Sea (war thatnos not WWII). I cannot wait to get started :)
I currently have holds for both Hamnet and A Long Petal of the Sea! I will go check out The Book of Longings :)

I like your channel but it's a bit of a odd statement to say you found it hard to find historical fiction not tied to ww2
Good point, but I do feel like a lot of main stream historical fiction is set during WWII.
