Thanks for joining me for this video! Let me know if you've read any of these, and/or your autumn + winter book recommendations in a comment down below x
I love books set in Winter where you can just *feel* the cold. I'm currently reading The Winter Garden and it's very atmospheric, I'm really enjoying it so far!
John Wyndham! I am going to read another of his books this year, "Foul Play Suspected." My first was "Trouble With Lichen," which I definitely recommend.
Very happy you’re back. Read Passing a couple of weeks ago and loved the evil ending. Also read Held by Anne Michaels in a day and a half. Impossible to put down. Can’t remember if you liked it or not in the video you did but I recommend you give it another go. It’s one of those books you want to start reading all over again when you finish it. You seem a bit more rested which pleases me.
Recommended; The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov, any book by Barbara Comyns. I have to admit I’m woefully ignorant of current fiction. That’s one of the reasons I watch you, to catch up. I have been reading a lot of books I’ve heard you discuss like Mistletoe Malice, A Helping Hand and Elizabeth is Missing. I also read The Beginning of the World in the Middle of the Night and loved it.
Yay, lovely video as ever. Autumn really is the best time of year for readers. And love that there is a Persephone recommendation right up front. I was *just* thinking about the fact that I’ve never read a Persephone, and wasn’t sure where to start!
I loved your recommendation of The Fortnight in September and ordered it! I'm currently finishing A Walk in the Park by Kevin Fedarko which is ,"The True Story of a spectacular misadventure in the Grand Canyon ". This book is beautifully written by a gifted writer. I recommend it!
Burnt Island sounds fab! I’ve just finished reading The Centre. Fascinating debut. I’ve just started The Year of the Locust by Terry Hayes ~ I am Pilgrim author. Motherhood suits you!
Aaaah I almost picked up The Fortnight in September when I was in London last month, but I was afraid it wouldn’t live up to the Hopkins Manuscript, in part because of the change in genre. However, the depiction and voice of the MC in the Hopkins manuscript was one of my fave parts, so after this video I’m sure I’ll love The Fortnight :D on to the TBR it goes (one day I also need to venture into Persephone books that are not from this author, ha)
My only seasonal read was We Have Always Lived in the Castle, which I bought for the spooky come up to Halloween, and ended up only starting last minute on October 31st at 8pm 😆 I didn’t like it as much as The Haunting of Hill House, but I’m glad I tried it. Other than that I have a Christmas romance planned but that one is for December
Have you read Annie Lumsden, the Girl from the Sea by David Almond? It's a children's book I think you would really like it. The art is so beautiful too
lovely video as always. Fortnight in September sounds great! also, i recently read NP based on a (fairly old) video where you recommended it and i have a strong feeling you wouldn’t love it now haha. dated would be putting it lightly 😬
Hi, I've only just found you, loved your video and recommendations, I'm drawn to the Janette Winterston book. I would also recommend a Persephone book - Harriet by Elizabeth Jenkins, sad, disturbing, but profoundly compelling read. In complete contrast I'm currently reading "What you are looking for is in the library" by Michiko Aoyama, its an addictive delightful and thought provoking read, it's making me happy 😊 x

Held was really not for me, I’m afraid, but I’m glad that you enjoyed it! And I am feeling a bit more rested, thank you ☺️

My favourites are Doreen, The Hopkins Manuscript, Still Missing and The Fortnight in September ♥️ xx
P.S. my bookish life is approximately 90% stern words with myself 😅
Thank you for the recommendations! ❤

I loved Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day by Winifred Watson, Harriet (as mentioned in my other comment) and An Enchanted April by Elizabeth Von Armin.
I loved Fortnight in September. I picked it up first because I read a glowing recommendation from Kazuo Ishiguro.

I read The Fortnight in September in September this year, five-star read!
When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit is on my book list.
It’s such a lovely one, isn’t it? x
@jenvcampbell Yes, definitely! A warm hug description was perfect. 🤗 A book I will definitely keep and reread.
The Paying Guests is depressing and extremely long. I was dissappointed that in the end the characters hadn’t evolved.
Each to their own! x
