    Ciao thanks for the video.
    I have been on holiday to Thailand a few times with my wife,
    now that we are retired I would like to spend two/three winter months there,
    and also spend a month in Bangkok, a city that I adore.
    In your expenses you didn't mention massages, a pleasure in Thailand.
    Ciao from Italy

    Thailand is a beautiful place, Bangkok not so much. I wish you guys the best with your work-life there and relationship. Thailand has ruined many a marriage & reletationship so it's best to just go with the flow. It's very normal there for the man to have a mistress or 2. Just remember it's not Jolly Old England expats have many more prospects there than home.

    Hi! Is there often a minimum length for the lease ? I'm going to study there for approximately 8 months (May-December) so do you think I can easily find an accomodation for this period ? Thank you ˆˆ

    • @KatieOvlogs
      @KatieOvlogs  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most landlords will ask for a year contract but if you make it clear to estate agencies that you are only looking for 8 months, then they can find landlords who agree. There are so many places unoccupied that you shouldn’t have too much hassle finding a place!

    This was so helpful, thank you Katie! My partner and I are moving to Bangkok for me to start an EYFS teaching role. How do you get to your school, do you book a taxi each day or have something that is more regular- if you don’t mind sharing! 😊

    • @KatieOvlogs
      @KatieOvlogs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am so glad that this was helpful for you and congratulations on the move! Yay teaching here is a great choice! For transport, I use the Grab app to book a taxi in the mornings and I tend to walk home after work because I only live around a 20 min walk from my school. However, if you live further away, you could check out which is the nearest BTS to your school, catch the BTS and then get a taxi or motorbike taxi from there. There are companies that you could arrange a regularly driver with and I am sure your school would have recommendations for that too!

    This is the cost of living of a NEW YORKER in Bangkok. Insane. I live here for 14k baht monthly rent, plus 14k for food and all the rest.

    How far outside of Bangkok are you and what size is your place? I'm asking because my hubby and I are talking about making the move, but we're worried about condo size.

    I take it you clearly moved from uk 😂to BKK.
    For a single female (with a cat😊), what. Area would say was more affordable? I’d be looking at a studio or 1 bedroom apartment.
    Noting, I’d definitely continue WFH with current U.K. company.
    Healthcare, vets, insurance etc.
    Wud be good to know 👍🏾.

      We love Phra Khanong, Ekkamai, On Nut area. You have enough stuff going on in the way of cafes and bars and restaurants but you also have quiet spaces too and there aren’t loads of tourists too. You could go for somewhere like Asoke but lots of hotels are around this area so expect lots of tourists. Check out those three neighbourhoods and aim for somewhere within a 10 minute walk to the nearest BTS!

      I take it you guys are back in good oldBlighty? You what’s funny? I’ve actually seen some really good and decently priced condos (pet friendly of course😁😁), in On Nut, Ekkamai…. Need to check again, and Phra Khanong… 🤔🤔don’t think I’ve checked??? I probably have, just not noticed🤣🤣.
      You’re right, that’s one thing I look at, easy walking distance to BTS and/or MRT or both. I don’t drive, so anything like this is greatly appreciated.
      😊😊
      Definitely looking at this, any tips you have, would be welcomed.
      Have a good one!

    Came across this video while doing research on a possible move to Bangkok and I just have to ask, how are you handling the weather. Honestly at this point this is my main fear, I don't handle heat that well. But I also don't plan to be out much, I'm very much a homebody and will be working remotely so what attracts me to Bangkok is the possibility of moving into one fo those incredible buildings with gyms and rooftop pools, co-working spaces. It's a kind of home/environment I could never afford in Europe. I'd barely live the building with how cool everything is. But still... how's the heat?
    Oh and bugs. Do fancy buildings like these have bug issues?

    • @KatieOvlogs
      @KatieOvlogs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha so I worried about this before moving too and it’s actually manageable! Everywhere has air con including the BTS and MRT. The only time I struggle with heat is when there is long walks during the middle of the day. My best advise is to get a place near the BTS or MRT, make sure your condo has a pool for you to enjoy too! I teach so often I’d have to do duty outside and you can get these electric pans that sit around your neck and they are handy but I don’t tend to use them outside of work! I also use the Grab app (like Uber) to get around and taxis are always air conditioned and easy to use!
      As for bugs, the newer the building the less chance of bugs and also, the higher up you are, the less chance of bugs. If you can get a place with a rubbish shoot, that can also reduce chances of bugs.

      Oh wow thank you so much for replying this fast, you're a superstar. I'm happy to hear the heat is bearable, I really hope I can handle it cause I really want to be able to live in Bangkok at least for a few years.
      Also I feel ya, I'm a teacher too, but I'm working towards leaving this profession cause I'm all teached out at this point. My sympathies for the days where you get stuck with supervising break time outside or other outside activities.
      Thank you so much for the info. I'll be sure to follow along with you and I might be back with more questions at some point.
      Take care and have a smooth school year.

      When checking out condos look at garbage area of the floor. Buildings with garbage shoots are much less likely to have bugs than buildings that collect garbage on the floor.
