Im watching ur reactions, after just finishing the NEWEST season OMFG they go SO HARD just when i thought it couldnt get any more hype or any better its just reaching for the sky. Its amazing and i cant wait for you to see the first movie, and the newest season. I got goosebumps like three times on the last episode.

Let me just say that even though you'll be annoyed by Zenitsu a lot, you'll definitely see some mad growth from him, especially nearing the ending of the series.
The final season isn't out yet, but there was a particular fragment of a scene (I won't provide context, so no spoilers) where Zenitsu is falling down enemy territory, apparently sleeping/passed out, or that's what we all thought, considering his behavior. And then... He opens his eyes.
That's all he did, and he now has people shaking in their boots with excitement waiting for him to go absolutely insane during the final fight with big bad daddy Michael Jackson. At least, I know I'm looking forward to whatever comes after that!
It doesn't mean anything to you yet because you've just started watching the series, but that single action was super meaningful to those of us who have been watching the show all the way until the latest season. So bear with him now, because it's going to be a very rewarding watch!
Most of the Demons are unfortunate people that Muzan took advantage of over the years to help himself. Some are just bad people before but most were broken people.

I love how Water Breathing has a form that's specifically to kill demons without causing any pain. When Tanjiro noticed that Mother Spider had surrendered, he switched forms to give her a peaceful death.
And... episode 19 is coming. OH BOY. Luke is in for a treat.
Bro, I don't think he's ready. From the every show he had watched so far, Demon Slayer hits the most in the guts. HxH is amazing and greatly enjoyable, but the last two seasons of the HxH hits you as hard as the first season of the DS. The worst thing is, the deeper you go, the more pain the series will do x.x

Tanjiro switching to a gentler form to kill the mother when he saw the look on her face just shows how pure he is.
Just so your aware after season 1 the next arc "Mugen train" you can watch either the movie format or 7 episode version. The episodic version has extra content in it so I would advise watching that.
It`s almost zero extra content there! Better react in one video and move on to the best arc.

The fact that its a move that cannot even work unless the demon willingly show thier neck for the kill and accept thier death means that Tanjiro is ALWAYS looking for signs of acceptance from the demons hes killing so he can use that form, because he hates causing pain even if its for the greater good like killing demons
Something I love that shows the depth of Tanjiros kindness is that we clearly see Tanjiro get pissed off by the Mother Spider when she snapped the necks of those other slayers but he still gave her the grace of a peaceful death when she showed a willingness to die. Tanjiro really is a wonderfully sweet kid
i also like that while hes kind hes not naive, he may act gentle and say kind words to the demons but he still makes sure they are dead and cannot harm innocents anymore. unlike his sister who he knows has not killed anyone he cant ignore a demons current threat and let them live but he can let their passing be one of peace

Demon Slayer doesn't try to shock viewers/readers with plot twists or confuse us by withholding information just for the sake of a late revelation. To some, that makes it simple writing. To those who appreciate it, the writing is great and doesn't need tricks and twists to move and engage.
It is simple still, but the problem is that people seem to think that simple is bad when it is not
The simplicity of Demon Slayer comes from it's pacing and pattern.
Have abridged training montage. Get mission. Finish mission. This is the pacing.
Fight small fries. Fight boss. Feel sorry for boss. This is the pattern.
Overall there is no real deviation throughout the story.
But you are correct in that simple does not equal bad. While the writing is simple, there is still nuance where it counts. Nuance in the interactions between characters. Nuance in the actions characters take. Nuance in the dialogue, both to oneself and to others. It is that nuance in the microcosm that enhances the simplicity of the macrocosm and allows them to play off of one another, creating a beautiful, if predictable, entertainment experience.
The Main three are more talented that the average slayer even as newbies.
The reason they are rank one is simply because they are new and haven't even had ten missions yet.
Also, Tanjiro seems to consistently fight difficult demons. Whether it’s an abnormally strong demon at Final Selection, or a couple supercharged henchmen, or a former Demon Moon, Tanjiro keeps getting practice with stronger and stronger demons
@@JM-us3frWell. He survives strong demons. 10 demon slayers couldn’t handle the relatively weak spider woman. Tanjiro alone could almost beat her if he wasn’t burdened with protecting people. Everyone from his graduating class is special for some reason. I can’t remember who the 5th is, but the 3 here + the young butterfly girl

We saw this with the first Demon Tanjiro encountered. He was stuck to the tree with the axe, but survived as a weird head with an arm until the sun came out.

tanjirou said he missed inosuke throwing a person up onto the tree to tangle them up.
the demon that had no head was alive because he was kept alive. demons has to either be cut by nichirin sword, killed by exposing it to the sun, or muzan. meaning if demons behead demons, they can be kept alive with no head.
The fact that Tanjiro switched his form to give her a painless death when he saw how the mother had not only accepted death, but was welcoming it, despite the fact she had just killed a group of demon slayers just shows how pure a heart he has.
Tanjio and Inosuke AREN'T the same voice actor. I don't know who told you that but they were lying.

Inosuke did intend on throwing Tanjro to the female "mom demon". He could pinpoint her with spatial awareness and didn't like Tanjiro doing everything and then complimenting him. So he did his part like that
All Slayers use the breathing forms, but the ones with sharpened senses are generally super talented, that's one reason Giyu recommended Tanjiro to that Master with the Mask, because like him, he has a sharp sense of smell.

About the writting, I love it, some people say that is simple because the trama is simple, the demon slayers.....slay demons, good vs bad. It doesn't have big plot twists like attack on titan or a big mistery or several plots at the same time.
But what makes it a good anime for me is that I can enjoy all the interactions, all the small characters have a background and personality. The characters are great and unique. For more about the writting I'll wait for your reactions.
Rui's voice actor is Uchiyama Kouki, you have indeed heard him before, Inumaki in JJK (bonito flakes), the king in HxH, Kang Taeshik in Solo Leveling etc.
Demon slayer simple? Yes absolutely, but not its writing, I would not call it a masterpiece in that aspect, but it is very good, it's just the plot, its good and simple. Everything else? God level tier, animation, OST, character design and sound effects (highly over... heard :P) This last scene man, Tanjiro changing from the first to the fifth, I don't think I have ever seen a more beautiful decapitation in any media, the slow down to an almost standstill, the momentary silence, followed by the soft melody, it was handled with so much care, you can see it in Lukes face, his bewildered, this was the first of many scenes that made me realize that I was watching something special.
Of course you recognize Rui's voice actor. Same voice as the King of the chimera ants in HxH.
Also, as for the comment of Demon Slayer literally being all the things you love in a show put together: I literally told you so. I remember a couple of times you mentioned loving specific things in a show, and my immediate reaction being "Oh, you're gonna love Demon Slayer then."
Oh, and, this show gets better as it continues. Believe it or not.

Murata is ranked above them mainly because he’s been there longer for now, which is very impressive when you’re a demon slayer. I really love him, just because he’s so damn persistent. He never goes away. He’s just always there, in every battle. It’s mad impressive.
Also, inoske was happy that tanjiro let him go first and kill the demon, so he threw tanjiro just to prove that he is okay letting tanjiro go first. Hence the episode title.

I dont think its being a hater to say that Demon has simple writing. Reason behind this is the use of battle shounen format. And its not a bad thing. Its a fomat that has worked for many popular shows.
I think its subjective on what you consider simple or complex. I think the scenes are certainly complex but story progression is fairly simple. Currently we are on 4th location since Tanjirou became official demon slayer and you can see the pattern.

??? Every story has a pattern. Everyone likes to say Game of Thornes was unpredictable but it wasn't. In the beginning any story can be surprising because we as an audience don't know the rules of the world but once the writer has laid the foundation of the story the audience will general know what is going to happen.
@@sal2028 The pattern in battle shounen is a well known thing Im not making this up. New arc, new villain, MC and party encounters villain. They split up tackling different enemies or problems. The showdown happens with MC facing off against main villain of the arc. Then we go through training, then stronger villain comes and the whole pattern repeats.,
Im not saying you are wrong. I can agree that every story has a pattern. But Im specefically talking about the pattern of battle shounen which is used in a lot of shows like Naruto, MHA, fairy tail. You dont have to see this as a criticism is just an attribute that Im referencing to say why its called simple.
There is a great comfort point about ur react channel that you never cut the video or stop at some climax when watching,

Tanjiro's sense of smell and Zenitsu's hearing are traits unique to them, and Inosuke's detection technique is something he came up with himself.
His Beast Breathing is a completely original and self-taught form.
This arc is one of the most underrated arc, a perfect end of aswell
Luke I have a very important info regarding demon slayer after you watch season 1 watch the movie because its such a great experience to watch the next arc in a movie than split into episodes where they literally cut in the worst moments, those aren't cliffhangers that make you hyped for the next episode they are annoying because they are just before the build ups
Tanjiro and Inosuke don’t share voice actors, Tanjiro and his crow do. Inosuke has the same voice actor as Kirito from Sword Art Online, both for the sub and dub interestingly enough.
Edit: correction, Tanjiro’s VA doesn’t voice his crow too but does a good impression of it and that’s part of the confusion.

@@animeguy1101 In 1 of the earlier Kimetsu Radio broadcasts, Hanae (Tanjiro's VA) & Shimono (Zenitsu's VA) chatted about how they love Yamazaki's work on the crow & proceeded to copy his voicing a lot during that segment. It's possible that people who didn't understand what they were actually saying got the wrong impression from there.
Luke-san who saw Episode 17 will surely review that "that man".😏⚡️❤

Murata, the guy that have a rank over Tanjiro and stay fighting other hunters is not that weak. He is pretty strong if you compare with a "normal" demon hunter

You already said this anime had a beautiful animation, but you saw nothing, you'll be really surprised in a few episodes.
Also Haters hate Demon Slayers because it has such a good animation while their favorite anime not so much, so they try to nitpick at things but since the story/characters are so well written and they also have a nice design and a god tier animation the only thing they can say is "THE STORY IS SIMPLE".
Simple but well done is better than complex and confusing, that's all i have to say
The reason Inosuke listens to Tanjiro is he's the first human that just outright beat Inosuke in a feat of strength when they first met. He's all about testing his strength against other creatures as he said, but he was outright beat by a headbutt from Tanjiro. Then he tried to strengthen his head by running into stuff because of that, but it's a strength Inosuke can respect. He even tries to impress Tanjiro in return by matching/beating him in other things like throwing people into the trees.
As an absolute major fan of DS, it being my favorite anime of all time as of, I will agree and say the writing/story is very simple and can lack the thrill... sometimes (when compared to shows like AoT, etc.). Although it isn't over complicated, there is beauty in that by itself (because of how simple and not overly complicated the story is). BUT, just because the story is simple doesn't mean the story isn't an amazing one on its own. In general, story carries an anime a long way, and sure other animes do it better, but the simplicity of this along with the beauty of animation and sound design makes this series such a lovable one/tear-jerker and makes you care so much for the characters.
Personally, I cannot wait for you to continue the next 3 episodes of this arc along with the seasons that follow season 1!!!!

Yes, everyone can do it, but not everyone is talented to be one of the best.
Plot-vise ... You are in for a treat every time you watch a new episode, so just continue to enjoy the cliffhangers 😅
Luke remember the bolder Tanjiro cut was much larger than all the other of Urokodaki's students and training was much more intense because he never intended for Tanjiro to pass so he is ahead of the game with power and skill than a regular noob. Plus he is Tanjiro and I will leave that as that.
Murata is the same rank as our boys here, however he's been a member longer. So it's a basic respect for experience/age thing that makes him kind of sort of in charge. Inosuke of course has no fking clue about societal norms so he just sees a weakling where as Tanjiro is a cinnamon roll and so is more than willing to defer to him atm.
Edit: To be fair to the haters... the story is simple. But simple isn't bad. Look at fairy tales, simple stories that are designed to convey complex meanings and messages.
This arcs soundtrack is the most underappreciated and my favourite of any arc, people only focus on one song when the entire soundtrack is so good

Hey Luke, just to clear something up, Tanjiro and Inosuke have different voice actors, I’m not sure who told you that they are the same but Tanjiro is voiced by Natsuki Hanae and Inosuke is voiced by Yoshitsugu Matsuoka. I had to edit my comment because I originally named the dub voice actors, not the sub voice actors.
Those are the English dub voice actors, he’s watching the sub version.

11:00 when tanjiro said he missed it. He meant he missed seeing inosuke tangle up the person because he was too busy defending himself when inosuke was trying to show off
The episode title is "Letting Someone Else Go First". Inosuke's "Anything you can do, I can do, too" is about letting someone else get the killing blow. You would expect someone like Inosuke to chase after the bragging rights, but if Tanjiro can set someone up to get the kill, Inosuke (the superior demon slayer) can also do it. He already knew where the enemy was with his spacial awareness, so knew where to throw Tanjiro.

I revisited the episodes and realized that episode 18 ended on a WILD cliffhanger.
I think that part of why the demon's death this episode makes you feel bad for her is because she was seemingly killing while under duress. Selfish, terrible people rarely accept defeat as willingly as she did.
the characters seem to just display some uncommon to rare traits that occour in real life. Inoske being a couple traits in one, double jointed, and a more sensitive skin (the one I relate to , even a gentle puppy bites feel like i'm being ripped apart) and another you'll see later!
Human mutations are interesting, though most of what I know and remember is from hearing things in passing
I think the writing is good people just rag on it because their favorite anime’s animation isn’t as good as demon slayer😂
If you did not notice Tanjiro was flying in with 1 form of attack planning to kill her for all she did to the demon slayers but then when she gave up he changed forms and showed her mercy by using the 1 form of a gentle attack

I wouldn't say that demon slayer's writing is "simple", it's story is for sure simple, but everything else is pretty well done. Just because something is simple it doesn't mean it's bad
Tanjiro can smell emotions, Zenitsu can hear emotions, Inosuke can feel emotions. He almost poop himself when he felt Tanjiro's rage...

Rank doesn't really define skill in every case. Since rank is determined by how many demons someone has killed (after final selection), usually the older corps members are higher ranked due to having more time to kill demons. Tanjiro and the other 2 are fresh new corps members, so they haven't been on many missions, therefore haven't had the opportunity to kill enough demons to rank up, while Murata is a few years older than them and has been slaying demons for a few years at this point. Despite being newer, the trio are more innately talented than Murata, meaning they will likely surpass his rank within a short span of time.
Zenitsu has a lot of character development, you might not believe me now but you will see him fit for our cute and pure Nezuko. He has to be a top 3 character for me just from how far he comes throughout the show 😊 happy you're enjoying the series luke
Great video as always, Luke! I enjoy your reaction to Demon Slayer. Important info tho, Tanjiro and Inosuke have different voice actors. In the Japanese version Tanjiro is voiced by Natsuki Hanae, and Inosuke is voiced by Yoshitsugu Matsuoka.
The reason why Tanjiro and Zenitsu are stronger than other demon slayers is because they were trained by former hashiras. And Inosuke is just built different.
Hate to tell you, Luke but the five survivors of the Final Selection are just the ones who were skilled enough to survive. It has nothing to do with the five senses. It IS just a coincidence.
Tanjiro was fully willing to decapitate the mother spider demon with a strong attack but when she was willing to die, he switched to a technique that gave her a painless death. Not only does it speak to Tanjiro’s heart considering how angry he was after she snapped the other demon slayers’ necks but it proves that not all demon slayers were ruthless in their pursuit to destroy evil demons that they created such a technique.
Tanjiro used gentle and painless form to cut off her nech when he realised she was threatening and wanted freedom😢
Inosuke never being able to remember people's names is still one of my favorite things in the show. It's such a small comedic thing but it's great. Also anyone that's genuinely annoyed that you don't necessarily like Zenitsu needs to chill lol we all know how grating his personality can be. it's okay to be frustrated with him and stuff. I personally find his character to be worth it over all that, but I get that he's just too much for some folks. I personally have a hard time with Asta from Black clover. It is what it is lol I believe it was implying in the Mother demon's flashbacks that she likely killed that special person after she turned and doesn't remember anymore.
I just want to point out that, at this point in the story, we know of Mother, Father, and Rui. Not Son, Rui. So far only one of these spider demons has a name.
Finally caught up with your reactions. I for one love demon Slayer. I don't get what everyone's saying when they say this is basic storyline. And it's only popular cuz it's pretty. First off there wrong it is not pretty it's beautiful and second I couldn't wait So I read the manga. It is one of my favorite, not a basic storyline at all. It only gets better from here

Don't worry Luke you have questions about the connection between all those Demons and you will get your answer eventually as the episodes progress. And I also love Inosuke its funny how much he is competitive with Tanjiro that he always has to "beat" him in something like when he saw Tanjiro toss the girl over the tree and he's like "I can do that too!" 😂Enjoying your reactions to this series so much. It is also one of my favorite manga/anime series and glad you are enjoying it so far! And yeah I know you said the past episodes was dark, but seeing those other demonslayers just die in an instant with a snap of the neck is brutal. You are so right though they really make you feel for these demons, but sometimes its hard to remember that they were once humans so it makes sense. I just love Tanjiro so much he immediately saw that she gave up and gave her a painless death.

What I love in this episode is that Tanjiro changed the attack he used in midair he saw that she was sad and wanted to surrender. He switched to a mercy killing attack. She still had to be taken out for killing people, but Tanjiro also showed mercy at the same time. You should have your own opinion of Zenitsu. Doesn’t matter what everyone else thinks. But you will see more of him in the next episode. 😂

I personally think that Zenitsu is difficult to like at first time, but the more You watch him, the more You might get fond of him. He's way more complex character, than You think and I like it.😂 Great reaction!😃
even if hashiras don't have special senses you could say they all have some special ability and they all developed unique fighting styles utilising those abilities
that being said our trio already have a leg in front "red shirt" demon slayers even being lower level...or tanjiro simply can't check his because they all are abnormal :P
but level gap in skills between low ranking slayers and hashira is no joke
about the story complexity. demon slayer story is simple. it is a revenge story with threat level increasing fast each time main characters are exposed to the enemy, with little spare time left for recovery and training between the fights. it has start, it has simple goal destroying muzan and it has straight forward rules and power scaling. no big mysteries to solve, everything unfold before you as you watch. it definetelly is not "lost" level of complexity in the main story. but instead it has a very well developed characters, theyre motivations are clear and even vilans are not just straight monsters to punch trough, they all have diverse personalities and goals among the main one serving muzan's immortality reaserch and destroying oposition. if not for backstories of characters it would be much shorter. it is well constructed simple story about complex characters. and it works for this kind of anime pretty well.
in essence it just mean it is entartaining anime with pretty low barier of entery. you don't need to learn anything to watch it and understand it,there is no references or hidden easter egs from other anime. you don't need to be weeb to like it... and it has pretty short catchy title too :]

Even as someone who likes demon slayer I do frankly think it is more simple writing when compared to something like Attack on Titan or Vinland Saga, particularly season 2 of Vinland Saga. Aside from often being a bit more compassionate about the villains, for the most part demon slayer is just good guys against bad guys. I definitely feel like I've read or watched plenty of stories that are more morally grey, have more twists and turns, are more difficult to follow, get a bit more deep and philosophical etc. it being simple relatively speaking doesn't have to be a bad thing, like I said I still like it, a simple story doesn't mean a bad story and for that matter a complex story doesn't mean a good story either.

Luke you really have a bad habit of calling anyone "haters" If they criticize something or say even one negetive thing that thing. You did that with Sword art online, you did that with Attack on Titan and now here. Negetivity/criticism doesn't come out of nowhere, vinland saga for the most part is considered a masterpiece by everyone, it doesn't have many haters even though it's very popular. Why? Bcoz it doesn't have many flaws either.
It is the truth that demon slayer story is fairly simple. If you love it or hate it, it doesn't matter. It does nothing unique in terms of its story, it follows a very tried and tested shonen storytelling without bringing anything new, special or remarkable to the table. It plays it very "safe" If that makes sense. And that is what ppl critise it for, and those complaints are absolutely valid. If you enjoy it, that's totally fine, you are new to anime of course you don't find it a big issue. Some of us have been watching anime for YEARS by now, we have seen many shonens and all the generic anime troups and stuff. Of course we are gonna have different opinions compared to you guys who are new. Idk why you are labelling them as "haters". Ppl are allowed to critise stuff, it doesn't make you a hater. You haven't seen most of the issues ds has yet, finish the show before making a judgemental on others.
It's like if someone watched Blue Beetle movie and said it was peak and anyone who criticised it was just a hater. Bruh we have seen whole marvel cinematic universe, this movie was nothing special. Obviously it was visually really impressive but from story telling perspective it was a generic super hero movie. Understand my point?
That's really not true, Demon Slayer definitely is unique (or at least as unique as a story can be considering everything has been done to an extent) and it's overall story is very complex. It doesn't try to be safe at all but stays true to the story it's trying to tell from the start all the way to the end.
