    ℹ️ About the Episode
For RVers, towing technology is finally at the point of adding incredible convenience and safety. Backing in a trailer with a "knob" can be a game-changer for many, especially those who are new to backing in their trailer or only do it every once in a while.
Many will say the knob isn't necessary and that backing up "manually" is easier. That's probably true for experienced backer-uppers ... but for someone who isn't yet comfortable backing in a trailer, the learning curve of the knob takes only seconds. In this episode, we leave Elkmont Campground in the Great Smoky Mountains and enjoy a one-night pull-through stay on our way to Kings Island Cedar Point, where we meet up with friends hosting the Music in the Park event. We always enjoy using our RV in different ways, and amusement park camping is fun for the whole family! While the kids were at the park, the adults got to hang out for happy hour around the Solo Stove. Does life get any better?!
    Peanut Butter Buckeyes Recipe:
2 sticks of Kerry gold butter - room temperature
1.5 Cups of non-sweetened natural smooth salted peanut butter
1.5 tsp of vanilla, 5 cups of powdered sugar.
Use a fork to blend all ingredients together. Roll in small balls and stick a toothpick in each ball and freeze. Dip in melted chocolate and serve once chocolate sets.

I bought one of those lockboxes for the console and it completely did not fit. So I have a tray that is made for my truck that fits underneath the backseat. I asked my metal guys to cut me a piece of metal the size of the lockbox and drill four holes in it, and then I drilled four holes in the tray that fits underneath my backseat. I mounted the lock box inside the tray then the tray then the metal underneath the tray and I cut the screws off so they wouldn’t stick out the bottom of the tray past the nuts. Now I have a secure lockbox that I can put things in that is underneath the backseat and since many people don’t even know the backseats lift up it’s really a good security lock box.

I’ve often wondered if Caleb, being on the road without Carson or Tori, ever feels lonely without friends to hang out with his own age. It’s clear how close you guys are but it was nice to see him having fun with other teens. I'm a diehard Ford guy and was taught to backup trailers by my truck driver dad, so when I got my 2019 F-150 with that knob I was curious. After reading the setup required I went, how cute, threw the stickers in the glove box and they haven't moved since lol
I suppose if you didn't know how to back, it could be helpful, but I feel it is too much retraining to do something I already know how to do

having used the knob for a while on a 18ft and 32ft trailers, it still helps to know how to back in without it. Been in some situations where the knob couldn't do it because the angle was wrong or the shadows/sun caused the camera to not read the label. But it has made it super less stressful and just moving a camper over or backing straight back the knob is awesome. But i would get the knob again.

I've seen the knob work and I've seen it fail. But I truly believe if you're going to drive around towing a trailer you need to back in using mirrors eyes and help from somebody you trust. The skill you learn from backing in your own trailer in the pride you get from it can never be matched by some silly knob in your truck. So don't rely on the video game learn how to do it yourself cuz what happens if the knob breaks and you don't know how to do it...

Here's a helpful topic. We have had a rash of stolen vehicles in our surrounding area. The bad guys will get close to their victim or just outside the RV and use a code reader to connect with the key fob. They then beam the signal to a buddy who is by the vehicle. That person can unlock the vehicle and if the vehicle has push button start, they are away and gone. I now carry my key in a small faraday pouch.

    • @robertcolpitts4534
      @robertcolpitts4534 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Another technique if you cannot find a Faraday pouch is to wrap the fob in an aluminum foil pocket. Works the same until you can locate a Faraday pouch.

For phone holders, I use a Ram X Mount with a suction cup and attach it to my driver’s side window. It works well, but does make it a pain for the times I need to roll down my window. It’s still easy to take off, though.
Also, I installed a console shifter from an F150 on my F350… I love being able to more comfortably select gears when towing. I have a 7.3L gas Tremor, so it does shift around now and I tend to manually shift it often when towing to avoid hunting around with the 10spd transmission.

I keep the phone on the passenger side so that I get a whole vent of AC to myself. Having hot flashes every hour on the hour means I need my AC. My kiddo doesn't want that AC so it works out well. Also, like you said, it's closer to the navigator. Finally, we found a Qi charger that snugs up to whatever phone is in it and also has a little platform that the phone rests on. So we can switch from phone to phone no worries as it self-corrects for size, the phone doesn't drop out of the bottom, and it charges without "plugging in".

Saw your video when you struggled with your water bladder. Suggestion: Probably easiest fix. Get a 12 v. marine live well pump with the through hull fitting. On the output side put a short !/2 clear tubing with a male hose fitting. That attach your fresh water hose. Estimate the distance from your battery, lighter socket, or other 12 volt source and get extension cord wire, put clips or lighter plug on one it and connect the other end to pump wires. Stick pump inlet in bladder, apply 12 volt source and fill the Rv from bladder. Probably $30 or so. When finished wrap cord around pump and store.

Touch him to use his mirrors vs looking backwards before he gets into the habit. That being said awesome to see him working at it.

Awesome job backing in! A skill I had to learn by myself, and I'm still terrible at it. Getting some assistance from Dad is how to do it!

Marc I think you need to let Caleb jump in that F450 and show you how to back it up. :-) You did a good job teaching Caleb to back your rig into the spot. I do remember that episode of I love Lucy..

2016 F-150 Platinum. Love the knob. Little movement goes a long way. Takes a bit to get used to.

I back up steer with my hand on top. That's the way I learned 65 years ago down on the farm with farm equipment and our farm truck. My truck center console has a built in phone holder down low, but still visable. With it hook to the radio via blue tooth I/we can answer any call or look at text messages without touching or looking at the phone. Plus Google maps is/can be displayed on the radio screen.

I am totally impressed with Caleb’s backing in of the Airstream. He did a great job.
I think we’re going to have to make some Buckeyes!

That trailer backing system is wild with the steering wheel direction changes. Seems to be some *getting used to* time. Thanks for showing us your experience.

Don’t know about that trailer backup knob. Apparently it works. Just have been backing trailer for many years and it is something I really don’t need to think about. I guess experience would determine the benefits of the knob.

With my F-150 my favorite part of the assist, is when I turn lose of the knob, it straightens up the truck and trailer perfectly

I have tried literally every butter out there and you must try Amish Roll Butter. If you like Kerry Gold you will love Amish Roll. It is out of this world delicious. When you get back to Florida they have it in Publix supermarkets.

🤔I don’t think I like or would use that “dial” to back up the RV - seeing that steering wheel go crazy would freak me out - I mean we don’t even do that much steering when manually backing up.😫🤔 Thanks for sharing that in action because now I’m definitely sure I wouldn’t want that. 👍

We learned how to back up from your TH-cam channel a couple of years ago. We've have squeezed into spots that impressed all our camping neighbours. We owe it all to you. Since you are doing National Parks out west maybe you'll head to Ucluelet again. Hope to "bump" into you in the future.

My mom’s peanut butter balls! She made them every Christmas, used vanilla, chocolate and butterscotch chips. She died Memorial Day and now rests in God’s Grace. Blessed memory. Happy travels.

The Buckeyes are a Christmas tradition at our house. We mix it with our hands because so thick. The balls aren’t very big. Maybe 2 bite size. We do in semi sweet melted chocolate chips with paraffin mixed in.
