Elephant Nature Park (Lek Chailert) in Chiang Mai has been running a wonderful sanctuary for years.
I wish you would not say you're the only one Katherine. I applaud what you do but to discount Lek's elephant nature park is in poor taste. Please be careful what you say. Do no harm. Thank you dear.
Firstly, thank you for doing this. Secondly, not only was Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai established with exactly the same ethos 20 years before you, Lek is very forthcoming in helping other sanctuaries with the same aims, objectives and operational ethos to start up in Kanchanaburi, Laos, and Cambodia. A generosity of spirit that you could learn from Katherine, rather than claiming something that is simply not true.
Amazing. There should be more places out there like that. They don't belong in circus and other places. Beautiful sanctuary! The world could learn something from what she is doing !

Katherine Connor, you are an amazing gal for managing to establish this wonderful sanctuary for these gentle giants. I know that you are already being blessed & loved by the pachyderms you saved. I hope that you will be able to rescue many more elephants in the near future from their sorrowful plights which they are trapped in. May I suggest that you add more you tubes of these Majestic animals together with addresses given to the public, so if some one who may like to donate some funds would be able to do so easily...

I don't know where you are located but I guess you have also heard of Lek and her Elephant Nature Park north of Chiang Mai? She started her sanctuary in 1998, since then she has opened several others in Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar, each time involving the local population that would otherwise lose their income through the loss of their elephant. Wishing you well on your important journey for the benefit and well-being of the gentle and oh so courageous giants.

Looking forward to more places just like this for abused elephants although ultimately zero abuse in the first place, rather that all people in Thailand and globally treat not only all elephants but all animals with respect, dignity and care, starting with respect for oneself. THIS is a beautiful place, full of compassion and love for elephants. This one and Elephant Nature Park are the ONLY 'sanctuaries' I would want to visit in Thailand. Most of the others are simply tourist traps making money off gullible humans, usually at the expense of the elephants.

Considering Lek and Darrick have been running a elephant sanctuary for many years now so this would be another sanctuary. The good thing is that Lek has been teaching owners about how to care for their elephants and even to surrender them to ENP, they were the first sanctuary to have volunteer weeks with the tourists where they stay and care for them, they even get to pay for the privilege of working with these gentle beasts. So I don't know whether this lady has been in contact with Lek on how to care and run a sanctuary for elephants, it does not matter whether it is large or small it is a haven for these eles, well done and kudos to you Katherine.

It is not correct that this is the first sanctuary in Thailand. So it is not a tourist attraction, but tourists can stay there. What does that mean?
ELEPHANT NATURE PARK has been around since 1996... FYI...Lek started doing this WAY before this woman did.
True but this is not about who was first, anyone working toward the elephants well-being or rescue is priceless and hard needed. I only wish that one day those people decide to get together to work together but above all to rally to put pressure on their gvt that refuses so far to support them, because some of the owners are influential politicians or businessmen
Where's the best platform to post this video to tourists who are thinking/ planning to visit so-called elephant "sanctuary" in countries like Thailand? Many tourists do not understand the devastating consequences of paying money for elephant rides, visiting elephant zoos, participate in various entertainments performed by elephants.
Good thinking! There are many online travel forums where some people check beforehand to become familiar with activities to do. I would suggest posting the video or a link to it there, just search Thailand Travel tips and stuff like that on Google and some sites should come up!
