Oh the dominion war galaxy class refit is far more powerful and faster than the enterprise d was , she had shields and her speed was 4 times the enterprise and she was armed with quantum torpedoes and a wing of fighters, and i read they were flagships for admirals and had a cic like Battlestar Galactica, the battle bridge but it was updated with a holosuite , behind the bridge, it allowed the admiral to command a battle group or fleet, ( like sherdin in b5 ) with the captain on the main bridge commanding the ship . Like a modern United states naval carrier. And its escort group. They removed the science equivalent and had extra shields or storage spare parts and fuel or torpedoes, and probably room for more shield generators. ? And they were mass produced, in sacrifice of angels sisko mentions galaxy wing 93 and 97 . ( which implies at least 97 galaxy class vessels ny that point) in the fleet. In tng season one their was only 6 and one was destroyed in season one. I read somewhere else Starfleet emergency or war budget the federation like a real world country would spend a minimum of 4 to 10 times the resources and manpower. Like in ww2 the us fleet had a little over 200 ships, 5 years later by the wars end it was a 1000 . Or 8 carries at the start and 20 fleet carriers and around a 100 light carriers. Although the British had sn even bigger fleet. 1200 . Day one of the war they commissioned a 100 new ships , and prepared the ship yards for mass production. And civilian vessels. Supply ships. , British list 5 thousand civilian vessels in the war ( it took ten years to replace them afterwards) .

Read it in a book somewhere about the Dominion War, but Starfleet had a plan before that any conflict, Federation vessels would have all non essential personnel removed and all non essential power needed for the other systems in the ships off, which then could be transferred to offensive and defensive purposes. Sacrifice of Angels was an awesome episode, but I think the terms 'Galaxy Wings 9-1 and 9-3' refers to the various Galaxy class ships within the fleet that were supported by other Federation ships. Kinda like military terminology today...such as Alpha 1-1. Though the episode doesn't show any sort of actual fleet tactics (only ships charging into the Dominion Fleet...which was still cool to watch) having those two wings would suggest that Sisko knew that two Galaxy Wings with it's supporting ships could handle the Cardassian Galor class Destroyers. Think of the Galaxy Wings resembling a US Carrier Strike Fleet with 1 carrier, numerous cruisers, destroyers and frigates.

When the Federation goes full, total war, they are a force to be reckoned with.
That was why the Cardassian commanders knew after a string of tactical victories against the Federation to offer a truce on favorable terms for themselves but one that wasn’t so outrageous that the Federation wouldn’t accept. Basically, they fully realized that what they had fought against were small frontier fleets consisting of second class ships of the Federation space force. Drawing the conflict out any further would have guaranteed their destruction.

@@DE-rd1zl yes galaxy wing. It refers to a battle group of around 7 ships with a galaxy class as its command vessel.
It may be 9 .1 and 9. 3 . But 91 or 93 makes more sense. I mean why 9 rather than 1 or 3 ? . I believe one of the ships is uss galaxy ( so 1 makes sense) but the venture and magelin ( sorry spelling)the explorer. Actually the galaxy ( galaxy wing ) battle group appears again in star trek nemesis. Its the task force on route to assist enterprise. Its listed on screen. . Either way , its referring to 7 ships. But that fleet is the 2nd and 5th fleet combined. And thier are many other fleets. It makes sense that the galaxy class fleet is spread out among the various fleets. At least 2 to 4 per fleet maybe. And obviously more were produced during the war , in the following 2 years. We see at least 4 galaxy's on screen in that battle. If it was the 9th fleet and 91 stood for ist galaxy in that fleet perhaps but i don't think so . 2 , 1 or 5 . 3 would make sense. ?

I read in the dominion war sourse book . Before the war the federation Starfleet had a little over 8 thousand starships before the war ( the largest fleet of the af allies) and by the end they had lost around 4 thousand ships, more than half the fleet, and had a higher casualty rate than the Klingons, they lost more ships but had a smaller crew complement. Although the figures dont count ships built during the war , but they probably had hundreds of ships under construction when the war ended and probably spent the next decade rebuilding, , in Picard Starfleet lost 2 thousand ships in the mars attack.

@@UtopianBroadcast1 yes but that last battle the allies had 8 thousand ships. ( a third each ) and they lost a third of them before tjey cardassion switched sides. ( one battle ) i think sisko fleet 400 hundred ships were lost , and in an 6 dp1 97 lost . The fighting around Vulcan 150 ships. That 600 ships in 6 episodes. And the war went on for two years more . The Breen attack on earth 300 ships. ( federation lost ) and when the lost betazed another fleet lost . And another at benzar and hundreds lost liberating them . Or i think the federation lost 200 in the battle with the breen when defiant was destroyed. ( and 112 romulan ships)
Apparently the romulan and Klingon flleet were both around 6500 ships. The Klingons had 1600 by the end and the romulans had about 2 thousand. By the end . ( apparently the breen inflicted massive losses especially that last battle) they was another cool fact . When the cardassion switch side apparently in they destroyed 2 thousand dominion/ breen ship in the opening volleys. And Starfleet and the Klingons couter attacked and for about 24 minutes there was carnage until the retreated. The scale of the war is hard the fathom. Oh the Breen attack on earth. 76 million casualties civilian. ( san Francisco, new York, Paris and Beijing) and the attacked earth weather and earthquake control centre. Caused massive earthquakes and knocked out power on earth for 2 weeks. And hit the federation hq Paris . Apparently betazed invasion, occupation, liberation. 120 million casualties. I think starfleets strength is there is so many different people drawing on there strengths and overall wanting to do good in the galaxy, there not perfect but there trying to be better. There ships are a little bit of everything and some are more focused on a set skill, they take a samurai approach to there ships. Samurai's where warriors, yet also had skills in medical, art, music, science etc. They are peaceful, yet ready to defend too. Starfleet is alot like that. The galaxy class dominion war variant was my favorite it became what starfleet dreamed it would be. Also the Inquiry class from picard, there have been designs of it with a better defector, secondary hull design and it is awesome.

I would say the Intrepid class is my favorite. It has very advanced shields, a really robust hull, is very well armed (on par with a stock Galaxy class) for a ship its size, and is very manuverable. It has very advanced sensors too, again on par with a galaxy class. IMO, it is basically a deep space cruiser...and I don't buy that it is anything other than a medium to heavy cruiser depending on its configuration. It is just too capable and well rounded to be anything else. It essentially is a 24th century Constitution class, fulfilling the same roles as the Connie did in her heyday...deep space exploration and research, and a strong defense role in more dire times. If there were more of them by the time the Dominion war was in full swing, they would have made excellent front line defense ships, especially in groups. But alas there were not that many of them, so likely they were used as deep space recon ships...which is another role they would be great in as they are fast and able to take care of themselves.

How come ships from the Vulcans, Andorians, Talarians, Bolians and other Federation members were not with the Earth vessels in Federation campaigns like in the blockade against the Romulans during the Klingon civil war, the Battle of Wolf 359, the Dominion War, the Xindi Incident, etc? If ever there were, it was only a very insignificant number. And how come only a few of them serve in Earth vessels when thw Federation is supposwd to be a unified entity as the USA, UK, Germany, Mexico, Australia, and other federal governments?

Peter David made a great staement in the Vendetta novel. He said "other vessels from other powers only have singular roles, mostly as a weapons payload delivery system, but Starfleet vessels are hyper-engineered to fulfill many roles, and they are designed with alabaster hulls and sweeping beautiful hull configurationsd, almost only because they can

In my opinion, Starfleet never should have signed the Treaty Of Algeron. From my point of view, it limits the Federation in uncountable ways, by, basically, keeping our hands tied, when we could be doing so much more & be better off with cloaking technology. In my friend’s Star Trek-Early 25th Century campaign, our version of Starfleet never signed the Treaty, and our Starfleet, & Federation members and member worlds are much better off with out it. If the other factions/empires have it, so should we. I’ve said my peace
