Elizabeth Macaulay-Lewis was an articulate, enthusiastic and learned guest, Garrett. Well done. Lots of fascinating material here.

    Excellent conversation. Thanks.
I do take exception with your diss of Amtrak. I've ridden trains on three continents, including the best of Switzerland, and Amtrak, while not being ideal, is far superior to most aeroplane travel, and also to some train services in Europe. And if they could get decent funding, we could have world-class service. Not to mention that they do deliver one to grand marble palaces known as Union Stations in many great cities. I think we should all do what we can to help them, rather than dumping on them, whenever the opportunity arises.

QUESTION: As mentioned, the destruction of Penn. Station in New York paved the way for Madison Sq. Garden, to the lament of architecture (and train)-lovers world-wide. Do we have any similar laments from the ancients, for buildings unwisely destroyed to make way for inferior replacements?

Curious what you guys think of architecture in the NY subway? Arches, eagles, mosiacs, etc? Seems very Roman-inspired to me!

QUESTION: Did a comparable neo-antique style manifest in 19th Cent. Europe ?

Yes, all over Western Europe and even some in British Raj Building

Could you crop each window to square or portrait so you and guest fill more of the screen?

It’s not just the Egyptian architecture that’s in the US. It’s the same pharaohs.
Pharaohs ruled for 10,000 years. Due to primo noctis their genes were in every country.
Only one pharaoh died in the Red Sea crossing. There were millions of their descendants still alive then and now.
Switzerland and France are their homes.
    Romans were Egyptian pharaoh descendants.
    Native Italians were their slaves.
These were the people who came to America.
There are 1 million Swiss in various government positions in the US now. Check wiki.
So the buildings in America are not inspired by Egyptians.
They were built by the pharaohs.
Free masons are their present day avatar.

It's absurd when discussing the City Beautiful Movement and the influence of the White City - Chicago World fair that they would have chosen to destroy over 90% of the buildings from the world fair in Chicago. That makes zero sense. The argument of temporary builders is absurd, it is either structurally sound to have people occupy it or it is not. Why destroy it all? Why did America suddenly stop building neoclassical architecture after 1920?

"obviously there's a big fire in the 1830s" is your channel like 95% American viewership that it is that obvious that there was a big fire in New York in 1830s?

How music does she get paid to spin this narrative … Hmmmm?🤔

    • @androidhammer
      @androidhammer 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

What is the narrative exactly? If you know American history, you know early American leaders were greatly influenced by Rome and Greece. Just read some of the founding fathers journals and this is very obvious.

  • @Omz-d4b

This architecture was founded. AKA found…free masonry 😂

Yeah, dude. The Greek and Roman architects were freemasons lmao.
